Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Annual MS Walk

That’s right boys and girls, it’s time for my annual plea for money.  On May 4th, we (my family) are doing the MS Walk to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis.  Here’s the post from last year after the walk.  For those not aware, my wife has MS.  She was diagnosed a few years ago but has battling it for many years, maybe over half her life.  But we have done this walk for 3 years now, and this year there will be a few changes.

  • The Positive - We should have a lot more money to donate this year.  Cheri has had a 31 party and has worked out a deal with the local 31 representative.  We rented out a local fire station (it’s really cheap) and she threw a fundraiser 31 party.  We ended up running a 50/50, had a gift certificate to sell tickets for and sold some chocolate covered pretzels.  But where the most money came in was the 31 party itself.  25% of all sales went to the MS Society.  That ended up over $300, it was awesome.  I’m glad it worked out that well because Cheri worked her ass off to get it all set up.
  • The Negative – As it is looking right now, this will be the first year that Cheri won’t be able to walk.  If you followed my other blog any, you know she has been fighting a ruptured disc which was pinching a nerve in her foot.  She has been getting steroid injections right into the site and things are getting better, but there will be no way that she would be able to walk it.  So I’ll be pushing her in her wheelchair, she’s not happy about it.  But I think she is more than making up for it with the party.

I’m not going into all the issues that Cheri deals with, just click the MS tag on my “Random Thoughts From A Random Guy” blog on the right side and you can find out.  But what I am going to do is ask for your help.  I’ve asked for donations before and I’m asking again.  I don’t care if you only give $1, everything is appreciated.  You don’t even have to leave your name, it can be anonymous.  I will certainly accept any paypal donations as well (jccsst1022 at gmail dot com).

Donate or not, I’ll still love you.  But if you donate, I’ll love you more.  Thank you for all of you who continue to read this far.

COMC’s Player Collections

The past couple of posts you’ve seen the rainbow parallel pick-ups from COMC’s Spring Cleaning sale.  Here are the cards I’ve picked up for 2 of my player collections.

comc-konerko

I picked up the same parallel’s that I did for John Danks of Paul Konerko.  Target, Emerald, Gold and Walmart.  Although I have the Konerko Walmart, I want to say from 2 by 3 Heroes so that one will go into the White Sox Collection instead of the Paul Konerko Collection.

comc-seaver

I also snagged this Chasing History insert of Tom Seaver.  There are a few of my player collections that I need to fill from the newer sets.  I believe there is a Luis Aparicio insert somewhere that I need to pick up as well.

COMC’s Rainbows #2

In my previous post you saw some spring cleaning COMC purchases.  I showed the players that I picked up 1 or 2 cards.  Today, you’ll see more of the rainbows as I picked up 3 or 4 cards of these players.

comc-sale

I picked up the Target, Walmart and the Emerald of our new ace, Chris Sale.  I’m really liking this kid, other than he needs to eat a cheeseburger or 20.  But I can’t hold that against him since he’s the stud of our pitching staff.

comc-danks

Picked up the same 3 of John Danks, plus the gold parallel.  He’s out on the DL, pitching some in the minors and trying to build some arm strength.

Tomorrow, you’ll see some player collection pick-ups.

COMC Rainbow’s #1

As I stated in my previous post, I picked up a bunch of the 2013 parallels during COMC’s spring cleaning post.

comc-beckham

I picked up the infamous Emerald parallel of Gordon Beckham.  These are pretty slick looking cards.

comc-youkilis

Also, picked up the Kevin Youkilis for under a buck.

comc-reed

I grabbed these 2 parallels of our closer Addison Reed.  Another Emarald and I assume the Target (red) parallel.

Come back tomorrow and I’ll show you some more rainbow pick-ups from the 2013 sets.

MSO Update with some Peavy love

I know I haven’t been around too much but I haven’t had a whole lot of money to purchase too many cards.  I do have a few things to post, even already have them scanned, just haven’t been able to take the time to post them.

I do have a bunch of cards that I got from COMC.  Most of you know about the spring sale they had for a couple of weeks.  Well, I put a discount on all the cards I listed, then the 2nd week, I discounted them even more and while they didn’t sell for a lot, I had enough cards listed to make it worthwhile.  I’ve only got 6 cards left on my profile.  So I have cards to show, mainly 2013 parallels (because I know you haven’t seen those yet).

I will post a card for you with this post.  I picked this up on Ebay, one of the few cards I’ve purchased there.  It’s rare that I find a card there cheaper than on COMC.  Plus, he pitched us to a 2-0 start today.

ebay-peavy

I paid $.99 for it, which is what I’ve capped myself on the 2013 parallels.  I normally wouldn’t pay $.99 for an insert but this one seems to be harder to find judging by the costs of the others I scouted.

I have a few people I owe trades too, I haven’t forgotten about you yet.  Just be patient and I will get them out to you.  Hopefully this weekend I can start getting some other posts up.
