Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Quicky

Just a quick post and I'll be caught up. Up until tomorrow when I log in my sorting and pickups from last weeks shows. At least I can say I was caught up for a day.

Fred (the guy I work with) has started sorting for my LCS so he gave me a stack of cards for me to check. These are what I kept.

Starting with the White Sox Collection, I like the Crochet as he's one of the guys I like to pick up because he could be good if the White Sox don't ruin him. The 4 on the right are all 2011 Bowman which I knew I had a bunch but these were Chrome and Gold. A few more older Bowman and a Minor League card round it up.

I also got 2 PC cards. An Andrew Vaughn Chrome Update rookie and a trippy Luis Robert. Hoping for big things from these 2, I'll probably get them from Robert, not so sure about Vaughn.

I'll have some more posts after I catch up on things tomorrow. We're doing the Fort Wayne show on Saturday so we'll see if I don't pick up a few things there as well.

What base?

I supposed I should put up a post. I haven't been on it as I am normally. I've been working a bunch of hours so I've been wore out when I get home. Haven't felt like taking the time to post.

Today's post is another team post but a few more cards than that last one.

Both of these came from Fred. The Abreu is the rainbow foil and the Mercedes is only my 7th. The way he started off his pro career with the Sox, I figured I'd have a ton but after a really good month, he dropped out of sight and isn't even with the Sox anymore.

These 7 cards came from Sluggo. I gave him $5 for all of these and a couple of Michigan PC's. None of them are base cards and you can see the the manu relic. Thick as hell like most of them but this has the Chicago city flag. Sheets played quite a bit for us this past year and did well. I'm hoping he stays on the team which would depend on if we make any signings or not. This is my 11th card of Sheets. The 2 Rodon's give me 64 of him and the 2 Abreu's and the 1 above that give me 184 of him, which is quite a bit for a non PC but only my 2nd highest non PC players.

Dennis did the same thing as Sluggo only earlier players, no base cards and even a couple with serial numbers Here's a rundown of the players numbers - Albert Belle is at 55 cards, Josh Fields is at 22 cards (1st on TCDB, surprised me as well), Alexei Ramirez is at 77 cards (1st on TCDB) and Adam Dunn with 62 cards. You may have noticed I skipped Frank Thomas, well he's at 585 cards. Yep, you guessed it, he's my highest non PC player. Even with that many cards, I just barely cracked the top 25 on TCDB. Good old 90's stars have a crap ton of cards.

Dennis almost always hooks me up with a relic or 2. The other was a player PC (Funchess) and you've already seen it. This is my 92nd card of Dye and my 8th relic of his.

These all came from people as I've been more active on player PC's than my Sox collection. I technically purchased the ones from Sluggo but they came in a lot he purchased and I get first dibs on all the lots.

Lotsa Sox

I've been slacking lately, just haven't been in the mood. Think of it as a mini-vacation. I'm also low on posts because I haven't gotten around to getting new cards ready so I only have a couple of posts left. I've ordered my package from Sportlots but I haven't received confirmation that it's shipped yet. I was really hoping to have it before the weekend since that's when I usually work on cards. I'm only working a few hours tomorrow, I was going to come home and start working on my cards but I guess we're going to Indy in the afternoon so we'll be gone for awhile. Maybe Saturday. Probably no post tomorrow either as we probably won't get home until late.

Today's post is a team collection of a team that has finally got their crap together but it's probably too little too late. Which is frustrating because had they done it a week sooner, they might have a decent chance of making the playoffs. Now we have to win damn near every game, including 4 against Cleveland who haven't been losing either. Although we beat them in a make up game today.

These 4 came from Fred. A couple more Heritage in the mix.

These 13 came from Sluggo. I actually got them awhile ago and barely knew who Romy Gonzalez was but he's been playing and doing really well for the Sox so now that I see that card again, I'm even happier to have an auto of him. There's also another rookie of him up there. Those are my first 2 cards of him.

These 7 cards all came from Dennis at Too Many Verlanders. He surprised me with a package a little while ago (and last week) with these Sox cards. None are base and 2 relics and an autograph. I thought I had the Tracey autograph but I think I had a Carlos Quentin from that set but I got rid of it as it was a Diamondbacks card so it didn't fit in the collection. I should have known I didn't have it because Dennis and I are both on TCDB and check each others lists before we send to each other. We share a bunch of collections so it's easy to find stuff for him. He sent me another package earlier this week that I need to get through yet, hopefully this weekend.

There are a few cards up there who are my first cards of those players. Romy Gonzalez that I mentioned, also Brian Goodwin and a couple of those Bowman's. I did a spreadsheet to see how many White Sox players I have cards of and with those cards in this post, it bumped me up to 950 different players.

Dunn with Michigan

What? More baseball. I know, lately it seems like a lot of Michigan stuff. Well, technically, this is both.

I picked up these 3 Cronenworth's from the same seller as the Sox stuff yesterday at the Plymouth card show. He had his stuff sorted by teams so I remembered to check the Padres for his stuff.

I got these from the packs that my daughters girlfriend gave me way back on Thanksgiving. I picked up 4 Sox cards and these 2 of Cronenworth. That other guy in the first card used to be a Sox but no longer.

These 5 cards of Jake bump his collection up to 16 cards which is pretty good since I picked up my fourth card of his less than 3 months ago.

I didn't really have any other Michigan baseball guys left to post other than Jake so I figured I'd drop this guy on here since he is technically a Michigan guy, I just don't collect him because of it.

I picked up this relic of Barry Larkin from Sluggo. He must have been generous that day. Either that or figured Adam Dunn was on it so it was a toss up. It's a nice looking card. It is my 6th relic and my 685th card of Barry.

Did I fool you with the title? Did you think I just didn't know how to spell done or did you think I was mad at Michigan?

10 cards, 3 hits and 3 free

I got a few envelopes with cards I purchased and some I didn't purchase in those same envelopes. I got 5 envelopes with 10 cards total. Even the 1st card of another player collection that I've been waiting to start.

We'll start off with some White Sox pick-ups.

I picked up this card for a whopping $.06/shipped. This card makes that team set down to 2 cards.

I also picked up this relic of Adam Dunn for the White Sox Collection. It came to me for $1.25/shipped. I think I only put a max bid of $1.50, if your a Sox fan then your well aware of the failure of the signing of Adam Dunn.

These 2 White Sox cards make 183 picked up for that collection so far this year.

2 cards for the Ripken Collection. The 2016 Topps Archives on the left I picked up for $.20/shipped and the card on the right, well to be honest, I have no idea where it came from. I put it with this card because I'm just going to assume the seller sent it as a bonus card. These 2 cards put the Ripken Collection at 330 cards and are the 18th and 19th cards of his picked up this year.

This was a 2 card lot of Barry Larkin and luckily I needed both of them. I won the lot for $.50/shipped which puts them at a quarter each. These 2 cards put that collection at 123 cards and they are the 12th and 13th cards picked up this year.

These 2 cards actually came free as bonus cards with the following 2. This seller read my purchase to almost perfection. I say almost because with the 2 cards above, he also sent a Rich Hill card. Now if the Rich Hill was in a Michigan uniform, it would have been perfect. The Jake Butt is my 3rd card of his and the Jourdan Lewis is the 1st. So what did I get (that's obviously Michigan related)?

These 2 cards came in a lot as well. Since I don't have many Mitch McGary cards, I went ahead and put $6 on the lot ($3 each which is my max bid on relic/autograph cards). What was a nice surprise is that I won the lot for $3 which equals out to $1.50/each/shipped. These 2 cards put the collection in double digits at 10 cards. Oddly enough, 5 of those 10 cards are relics and/or autographs. These were the first 2 cards that I've picked up for the McGary Collection this year.

Lots of Canadian love

You'll get lots of cards in this post. These are all from one seller but the auctions were over a period of a week or two. He ships from Canada so he holds them and sends a bunch at once, it saves him on shipping and I don't mind waiting a bit to get the cards. Especially if it means he keeps selling stuff with a penny start and free shipping.

We'll start off with some White Sox Collection pick ups.

2004 Fleer Ultra Gold Medallion of Carl Everett for $.25/shipped.
2013 Pinnacle Slugfest of Adam Dunn for $.25/shipped.

2016 Topps Gypsy Queen Mini of Adam Eaton for $.22/shipped.
2005 Donruss Signature Series of Freddy Garcia for $.15/shipped.

2013 Topps Update Gold of Dylan Axelrod for $.23/shipped.
2013 Bowman Gold of Alex Rios for $.25/shipped.

2015 Panini Prizm of Jose Abreu for $.25/shipped.
2015 Panini Prizm of David Robertson for $.15/shipped.

2016 Topps Update of Brett Lawrie for $.15/shipped.
2015 Topps of Adam Eaton for $.12/shipped.

That's all for the White Sox Collection portion, let's check out the player collection additions.

I picked up this 1991 Topps Stadium Club of Carlton Fisk for $.16/shipped. This is the 146th card of the Fisk Collecton.

I got this 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes of Steve Carlton for $.25/shipped. This is the 78th card of the Steve Carlton Collection.

I got this 2001 Fleer EX of Barry Larkin for $.25/shipped. This is the 112th card in the Larkin Collection.

I got this 2015 Topps of Mark Buehrle for $.25/shipped. This is my 183rd card in the Buehrle collection.

Last but not least, I picked up this 2012 Topps Opening Day Blue for $.25/shipped. This is my 407th card for the Konerko collection.

Monday Sox cards

I'm starting the week off right with cards in the mail. It's just to bad Monday also signifies going back to work. Both cards came from the same seller, I've been winning a bunch of his. I don't know why because I don't do anything different then I do with other sellers but that's the way it's worked out.

2012 Topps Chrome Refractor
That's right, a refractor for the White Sox Collection. For only $.20/shipped. Although Dunn underperformed for us, maybe that's why his card was cheap.

2012 Topps Chrome Refractor
What? Another refractor, only of Paul Konerko. He was great for the Sox for years, surely I paid more for this card? Well, I did, this Paul Konerko Collection card cost me a whopping quarter/shipped.

Canadian White Sox

I got my first of probably many packages from a certain Canadian seller. I've been winning some of his cards and he has some ending for about 4 or 5 days in a row so I wait until he has an evening that nothing is ending and I pay for what I've won over the last week. The fees are cheaper for him if he gets a lump sum as well as shipping them all at once instead of an envelope daily. How he can afford to offer free shipping, from Canada, is beyond me, especially when you see the prices I paid. All of these cards go to the White Sox Collection.

2013 Topps Mini Chasing History
Topps is really taking advantage of us collector's with all the mini's. I picked up this Adam Dunn for $.16/shipped.

2014 Donruss the Rookies

2014 Donruss the Rookies

2014 Donruss the Rookies
I also picked up these 3 from the new Donruss. I got the Matt Davidson and Erik Johnson for $.16/shipped each and the Marcus Semien for $.15/shipped.

2015 Donruss Preferred Bronze
Another Donruss, only this one isn't a rookie, he's an All-Star. I got this Jose Abreu for a quarter/shipped.

2012 Topps Gold Sparkle

2012 Topps Gold Sparkle
I also picked up these 2 gold sparkle cards on the cheap. The Gordon Beckham came to me for $.15/shipped and the Matt Thornton for a quarter/shipped.

2003 Fleer Showcase
Last but not least, one of our many superstar rookies that didn't pan out. I picked up this card of Joe Borchard for $.15/shipped as well.
