Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Fred Sox

Today, I'm going to show off the cards that I get from Fred, whom I work with. Every few days or so he brings me a couple of cards. He's going through all his cards from 30 years ago and when he comes across Sox cards, he brings them in to me. I scan them when I get them so that's how the pics will be. He actually brought me in a couple yesterday but I haven't gotten around to doing them yet so you'll see those in the next round.

I didn't realize how often he gives me cards until I was uploading all the scans.

I had this Jason Bere from 1994 Upper Deck but I didn't have the Electric Diamond parallel and a Magglio rookie from Fleer.

When he started bringing the cards in and I saw all those 90's, I figured I'd have most of them. I had some but he gave me a lot more than I thought I would need. This is my 3rd card of Clemons and my 32nd of Roberto Hernandez.

These 2 were studs in the 90's for the Sox, Black Jack McDowell and Rockin' Robin.

As you can tell, he had some that weren't 90's. I think he'd pick up cheap cards at the LCS or card shows for me as well. This is my 13th card of Danish.

He gave me my first 2021 Topps awhile ago and he gave me these as well. They only get shown because I received them before the box breaks cards that I had won. That is my 1st card of Heuer, my 146th of the current MVP and my 10th of Leury.

Back to the 90's with this trio of Ventura cards. Again, I though I had all 3 of these but nope.

An assortment of early to mid 90's. Another Blackjack along with a Bo Jackson, I wasn't a huge fan of his, didn't hate him or anything, but wasn't really into him. I did like Ray Durham though. That is my 9th of Parque, my 26th of Bo and my 74th of Durham.

I do like getting Mike Caruso cards. I know you're thinking who? Back in the day, the White Sox had a minor league team right here in South Bend (they are the Cubs now) and he's one of the few names I remember seeing play here. Jason Bere is another one of those guys but I remember him more from his pro career. This is my 25th of Caruso, my 48th of Belle and my 37th card of Bere.

We've seen all 3 of these guys already. I thought I had both of those Award Winners. Makes me wonder how many cards I fly by flipping through dime boxes thinking I already had them. The Fernandez at the bottom is the silver signature version and is my 46th of him.

I remember buying a box of these Collector's Choice back in the day. I think my cousin (Sluggo) and I split it. That was back when cards were cheap. It is my 3rd of Fabregas and my 5th of Valdez.

Another Maggs, with a rookie cup and another McDowell. The above Ordonez's give me 161 of him and my 55th of Jack McDowell.

Another trio, this time of 1998 Upper Deck's. This Cameron makes my 20th, my 6th of Norberto and my 12th of Navarro.

He also picked up some packs of Heritage and gave me this Keuchel. It's only my 5th of Keuchel.

A couple more for the late 90's. I told you he sent a bunch of cards in the last couple of months. This is my 5th of Scott Eyre and my 15th of Abbott.

Lastly, he picked this up at a card show for me. I think he said he only paid a couple of bucks for it and he bought it for me. This is my 6th card of Thompson and my first auto of his.

I feel bad that I never give him any cards but the one time, but that one time was an 800 count box about 3/4 full of Cubs cards so it's not like he's even close to giving me what I gave him (for the record, he doesn't have to give me anything) I just feel bad because a couple times a week he gives me cards and I just keep taking. I have to remind myself that I already gave him a box.

PWE Sox

I love the title of the blog"It's Like Having My Own Card Shop" because when I was a kid, that's what I though about all my cards. I was collecting to have every card out there and that's what I thought card shops should do. Have any and every card available. As I've grown up, that view has obviously changed. I would still love to have every card out there but that's just not feasible. It's hard enough getting the ones that I need for my collections.

Daniel from the aforementioned blog, had posted a 1973 Topps want list and I sent him a few. I think it ended up being about 5 or 6 and I threw in some mascot cards of Southpaw that I had. I told him he didn't need to send anything back but that's not the kind of bloggers we are, are we?

I received a PWE from Daniel with some Sox cards needs.

I needed 6 of them as you can see above. A purple Alex Fernandez (44 cards) from classic as well as a couple of Bowman (Zack Erwin-2 cards & Tyler Danish-12 cards). I like receiving Bowman I don't have because I hate trying to find them with a couple sets that all share the same subsets. I hate Bowman. The Ron Karkovice (44 cards) is the Cyberstats parallel. I was surprised I didn't have the Dan Pasqua (33 cards), I have a bunch of the 1992 Pinnacle's but apparently not that one. Last but not least, Daniel sent this gold Update of Jose Abreu (131 cards), I like the action shot on that card.

Thanks for the cards Daniel.

Lots of cards

I got 3 envelopes today, 2 had a single card in them. The last, however, had 15 cards. The big one was from the guy in Canada so he saved up about a month's worth of purchased and sent them all at once.

It's a big post, so let's get to it.

I picked up this 1988 Topps All-Star Glossy of Mike Schmidt for $.25/shipped. It is my 101st card of Schmidt. I remember these coming in the cello rack packs back then. I probably had most of them for a few years.

I also picked up this 1993 Fleer Ultra of Jim Abbott for $.25/shipped. He's in the worst uniform that I like to see him in (the first being a Michigan uni). I'm surprised this card didn't go for $3.00 just because it was a Yankee card.

These 4 cards all go to the White Sox collection. I picked up 4 of the 1991 O-Pee-Chee Premier (3 above, 1 below) and what I didn't realize was that put me only 1 card away from completing that team set (Tim Raines). I picked up the above 3 for $.10/shipped each and the Ryan Meaux for $.15/shipped.

I picked up these Panini Cooperstown's for $.18/shipped and $.20/shipped. They are both Panini Cooperstown but one is from 2012, the other 2013. These 2 cards put the Steve Carlton Collection at 81 cards.

I grabbed this 1986 Sportflics of Gary Carter for $.20/shipped. This card puts the Gary Carter collection at the century mark with 100 cards.

Here's the other 1991 O-Pee-Chee Premier card I mentioned above. This card goes to the Carlton Fisk Collection as well as the White Sox Collection. I got this card for $.23/shipped. It is my 147th card of Fisk.

I actually already had this card, when I bid on it, it looked familiar but my page said I didn't have it so I went ahead and threw the quarter on it. Then remember I got the whole rainbow of refractors of this card in one trade. Oops. I did end up only paying $.15/shipped so there is that.

I don't have to many post White Sox card of Buehrle, I have some with the Jays but his was my first with Miami so this was a nice grab. Especially for only $.23/shipped. This card is my 185th card of Mark Buehrle.

I also picked up this Jim Abbot for $.10/shipped. This Abbott, along with the one above, make 88 card for the Abbott Collection.

I got this other playing card (different set) only this time of Barry Larkin for $.10/shipped and the 1993 Leaf for $.11/shipped. These 2 cards put the Barry Larkin Collection at 114 cards.

I even managed to get an Aparicio this time around and for only $.20 but apparently I didn't check my lists because I already have it. So if you want it, let me know. JediJeff has first dibs if he wants it but if he doesn't, it's up for grabs.

I also managed a Konerko which is rare as well. This one came to me for $.16/shipped. Maybe it was cheap because it's an unlicensed card. Either way, this is my 409th card of Paulie.

Monday madness

Today is going to be a quick post, even though I received 6 envelopes with 11 cards. It'll be quick because Mondays kick my ass. I tend to sleep in too much on the weekends and then Sunday night I can't go to sleep so I usually end up with around 4 hours sleep. Normally, I would come home and get online but after work I went and donated blood and by the time I got home, we were having supper. So I'm just now getting around to posting, and I'm sleepy. So let's get to it.

1981 Topps
Still need 9 cards for the team set. Picked this up for $.35/shipped.
1991 Topps
This card takes this team set down to 1 last card. Picked this one up for $.12/shipped.
1992 Topps
This card also brings this team set down to 1 card. I got this one for $.01/shipped. You didn't read that wrong, a penny.

1987 Topps All-Star Set
I remember sending in wrappers or game cards or something to get these. I grabbed this one for another $.12/shipped.

All 4 of the above came from the same seller and all go to the White Sox collection.

2016 Topps First Pitch
I had to pick this one up because it's a Sox card and because he's a Star Trek guy. I probably wouldn't have picked it up if he wasn't in the Sox uniform though. I grabbed this one for $.54/shipped. I do want the Haley Atwell as well from this set even though it doesn't really fit into my collection.

1995 Donruss Top of the Order
Picked this one up for $.06/shipped.

1995 Donruss Top of the Order
Picked this one up for $.06 as well. Both of the above go to the White Sox Collection.

1995 Donruss Top of the Order
Obviously, the last 3 cards all came from the same seller. I don't think I've ever seen this set so it was nice to grab 3 for my collections. I also only paid $.06/shipped for this Abbott for that player collection.

1983 Topps Stickers
I always like grabbing these stickers since I used to buy them up like crazy as a kid. This one came to me for $.52/shipped. This one goes to the Carlton Fisk Collection.

1989 Topps All-Star Glossy
The only player in this post to never play for the White Sox. I got this card of the Kid for $.30/shipped.

2006 Upper Deck Artifacts MLB Apparel #'d /325
I also picked up this relic of Tadahito Iguchi for the White Sox Collection for $3.49/shipped. Love the jersey swatches with pinstripes.

Sorry for the quick post, but I'm heading for bed. See you, hopefully, tomorrow with more cards.

Cheaper Than Stamps #47

zzz-cheaperthanstamps

We left off with our January vintage collection purchases, let’s look at what I got for the White Sox collection before we start with our February purchases.

ebay-whitesox01

Jordan Danks – 2013 Topps

I believe I have the series I part completed but this was the first from series II.  I grabbed this for $.11/shipped.

ebay-whitesox02

Paul Konerko – 2000 Topps

I grabbed this for $.20.  I already have it in the Paul Konerko collection so it goes over to the White Sox collection.  The sad part is I probably looked over it doing my Paul Konerko searches not even thinking that it could go in the team sets until I intentionally searched for White Sox cards and it popped up.  This brings that team set down to 3 cards.

ebay-whitesox05ebay-whitesox06

1993 Donruss – Alex Fernandez and Steve Sax

I picked both of these up for $.11 each.  I still need 14 card for this set.

ebay-whitesox04

Frank Thomas – 1992 Topps

I got this card for free, that’s right, free.  I have a couple of sellers that package using other cards and for once, it was actually a card I could use.  Usually it’s a NBA card or later junk wax so I can’t even use it on my vintage collection.  I still need 23 cards for this set.

ebay-whitesox07

1986 Donruss – Daryl Boston and Bryan Little

I picked up the Little for $.11 and the Boston for $.29.  These 2 cards still bring me down to 21 cards to complete the set.

ebay-whitesox03

Daryl Boston – 1985 Donruss

This is a card I picked up in the 5 cards lots for the vintage collection.  I paid $.30 for the lot which equals out to $.06 each so this card was $.06.  I still need 23 cards for this set,

Here’s the rundown on how much I’ve paid and to which collection so far in the Cheaper Than Stamps series.
