Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Double Header Memorial Day

What a good way to celebrate Memorial Day than hanging with the family for a cookout at lunch and getting home in time to start a double header with Cleveland. Sox won the first game in a back and forth game in extra innings. The 2nd game is tied at 1 as I type this.

Today's post will all be White Sox as well. These were all the pick-ups on Sportlots in my last package. Just fill ins at $.18 to get the sellers up to 4 cards.

Make that down 3-1 to Cleveland now. That was quick. Anyways,

A couple of 2020 Stadium Club pick-ups. One of them being the league MVP for that price. I'll take it. He still doesn't get hobby love but I'm okay with that.

Also picked up 4 Bowman Heritage. The bottom 2 are of the prospects variety but the 2 on the left are no longer with the Sox. Zack is Yasmani's back up and Rutherford is in the minors.

Now going back about 16 years, I grabbed 5 from the Donruss Throwback Threads set. These 4 give me all the current players (in 2004) but I still need the 2 retired and the rookie players for the team set. Those 3 cards are all numbered.

Sticking with 2004, I also picked up this Sweet Sigs card of the Big Hurt. It gives me the 2 current players but I still need the 2 rookies for the team set. Those are both serial numbered as well. Must be a 2004 thing.

I threw the horizontals together. The top 2 are 2007 SP Authentic inserts and the bottom card is a 2004 Leaf Certified Cuts. I do like both of the designs but the Leaf one better, probably because it's shiny. The top 2 were our #1 and #2 hitters on the World Series team though so you know I love those 2 as well.

You can never go wrong picking up vintage White Sox cards for $.18. This Walt Williams is one of the low number cards which I have most of, the higher number is another story. I have 21 of 35 cards for the team set.

Lastly, I also grabbed another 1967 Sox card for the team set. I did pay a little more for for it though, got it for a quarter. It's my 17th of the team set which is just over halfway done, again, the majority of those high numbers.

I know by the time I finish this, most of our Memorial Day's are over but I hope you all had a happy and safe one. As in every day, my appreciation goes out to all the troops, current and past.

Nachos Box

After the Sox won 9-0 yesterday, they couldn't score a run today. The ups and downs with this team are ridiculous. Dylan Cease had 3 hits yesterday in his first game at bats since high school and the Reds had 2.

Today's cards aren't Dylan Cease, but they are White Sox cards. This the haul I got (minus the PC cards) from joining Nachos Grande first breakers club. I believe he is taking sign up's for his next one right now.

First off are these 1999 Topps Tek. These are cool looking cards but man it takes a bit to figure out which design you have to put on TCDB.

A couple of 1997 Topps Finest. I never know whether I should peel the coating or not. I generally just leave them alone.

Another Frank Thomas card from 2003 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia.

I got all the 2004 Leaf "base" cards. I didn't get any of the "subset" cards (rookie, prospects, passing through time or the checklist.

A couple of 2001 Gold Label. I always like the Gold Label brand. I think it's the glossy photos that does it for me.

The only card I didn't get from 2003 Authentix was the ticket to the majors card which is a serial numbered rookie. I like the field background and the Sox logo but I wish you could see the logo more. I like how they look like a ticket though.

These 2 from 1999 Private Stock give me the team set as I already had the Frank Thomas. I also got these mini's

I just need the Albert Belle mini to complete it.

I already had 3 from this team set and still need 1 more "base" card as well as the autos and rookie serial numbered one.

I only got this one card from 2002 Topps 206. I have 3 others but that only puts me at half the team set but this is one of the 3 Mags, 2 of them are variations which this is one of those.

This is a huge team set, 24 cards not including variations. Which you could have probably guessed since I'm betting there is probably at least a couple guys that most non-White Sox fans would even recognize. I do remember buying packs of 1998 Pacific online at the local gas station in the late 90's. I was amazed that they had websites listed. You could tell it was the early days of the internet.

I wonder if this set didn't come out in series as I have the last 9 of the team set but none of the first 12. These were the only 2 that I needed.

Technically, these were the first 2021 cards I purchased but they weren't the first in hand so I've shown others before now. I have the team set (series 1) minus the variations but I don't remember if I got all of them from Chris or if some of the others I received finished it.

Chris through in a couple of these as well. I don't know if he had a bunch and just gave everybody some or if I got a couple because the game was at Comiskey. Either way, I'm keeping one for the collection.

Lastly, the hit of my breaks. This is like the Topps Tek as it's hard to figure out which one you have because there are so many variations. I think this one is 1926 Unblocked Legends. Why is this the hit?

It's an Ebay 1 of 1. It's a pretty cool card and a pretty cool serial number.

I won't go into all the players and how many cards I have but I will say that Magglio Ordonez is up to 161 cards and Frank Thomas is at 555 cards.

I was definitely happy with the breaks, had a good time watching the vids to see what I got and Chris lets you stack and ship when you want. I just waited until it was over and then shipped them all which is why you get a big post. Be sure to go to the top and click the link and join his 3rd round of the Breakers Club.

White Sox Nachos Style

I spent most of the day in my card room scanning more cards for TCDB. I posted 113 scans. I got all my player collections done, or so I thought. I was working on my autographs binder and I noticed some of my player collections were coming up with some of the cards without photos. Not just 1 or 2, I saw probably close to 10 and I know I went through all of them and added photos so I don't know what happened with the photos. The ones missing weren't ones that I posted either so I don't know why they got deleted but I guess when I finish my binders, I'll have to go back through them.

Today's post comes from Chris at Nachos Grande, I buy into his box breaks, or I used to. I still try but being as Luis Robert is on the team I collect, I get beat out by people, I assume, looking to flip his cards. I get notifications on my Facebook when he posts a new box so I don't miss them but I don't get notifications to my phone. I don't for any of the social media because I don't feel the need to be on them all the time. So by the time I get on Facebook and see there was a post, the White Sox are usually gone. I'll still be able to buy in on the older sets but those I'm more picky on just because some of them I don't really need as I already have them. Since I wasn't able to buy in on the last few boxes, I went ahead and had him ship what else I had left.

I don't blame Chris for what happened, it's good for him because he has a better chance of filling his breaks so he doesn't lose money. Lose money and he can't do the breaks. It is what it is. Hopefully these flippers won't be around long and things can go back to normal.

I really don't remember what breaks I bought into so I'm just guessing that these 3 were all extras that Chris threw in. Although I thought I bought into a SI box but I think I got those already. He actually did a pretty good job sending ones I didn't have considering I have a ton of Frank's and the Abreu gives me 133.

These 2 were the first of that team set. I still need the Frank Thomas and the 2 numbered prospects. The Loaiza only gives me 10 cards of him.

The same for this set, these were the first 3 of the 2000 Pacific Prism. These 3 put me over half way though because there are only 5 in the team set. That Mags gives me 154 of him and 72 of Ray Durham.

The Mike Caruso on the left completes the set for me but that's because there's only 2 cards. The other being Frank Thomas which I also got from the break but I already had that one. I did however, pull the Thomas on the right which is the Radiance parallel numbered to 100 and that scans so much better than the base. It is a pretty nice card. All the Thomas' in this post give me 542 cards of his.

Thanks again Chris, hope to get in some more breaks in 2021.

Ebay Pick-up #7

ebay08g

I picked up this lot of White Sox cards.  I know it doesn’t look like much here.  But I needed all of the above for my White Sox Collection.  But wait, there’s more.

ebay08f

All 9 of these Frank Thomas’ are new to the White Sox Collection.

ebay08e

A couple of Michael Jordan’s.  I loved him in a Bulls uniform so you know I’m going to like him in a Sox uniform.

ebay08d

These 4 Topps Finest.  How can you not like shiny.

ebay08a

Even a couple of vintage I needed.  Also my first 1961 Fleer.  And if that wasn’t enough,  This lot even hit my player collections.

ebay08c

3 new Paul Konerko’s.  All shiny

ebay08b

2 more Luis Aparicio’s and both with a vintage look.  The one on the right is numbered to /65.

This 44 card lot (only a few that I already had) was a great lot for me.  Can you guess what I paid.  Go ahead, guess.

$3.51/shipped.  Which is approximately $.09 a card for just the ones I kept.  Yep, definitely my kind of lot.
