Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

All-Stars and Chromes

I figured I'd better put out another post since 4 out of the next 7 days will be birthday posts. The wife is decorating for Christmas and I'm doing what I can not to so I need to look busy.

Today's post is only a few cards and they all came from Sluggo but at 3 different times.

I got this one at the beginning of October in some cards that Sluggo got in a collection.

Sluggo was going through some stuff he still had packed and it had larger cards in it so he gave this to me along with some other Sox jumbo cards but I actually had those.

I saw this at the Fort Wayne card show and I picked it up for a buck. I used Sluggo's money though so it came out of my payment for doing shows. It's a retrofractor which I assume is just a fancy name for the refractor's back in 2001.

These 3 cards give me 707 cards of Barry. As high of a number as that is, I'm still in a tie for 16th place on TCDB. I knew Chris at Nachos Grande and Dennis at Too Many Verlanders would be above me, I didn't expect 14 other to be as well. Apparently he's a popular collection.

Hello and Goodbye

I've been so immersed in the big Michigan win on Saturday that I haven't really watched or read much on anything else. A guy at work told me today that he thought he heard that Abreu signed with the Astros and I hadn't even heard it. I'm a slacker.

I understand the decision to let Abreu go as far as a business decision but that doesn't mean I like it. I really liked Abreu. I guess he almost signed with Cleveland so in that regard, I'm glad he signed with the Astros, even if I don't like them.

Today's post is a bunch of cards of a guy when I started collecting, I figured I wouldn't get very many because they were all expensive. Times have changed though.

Again, you know the story of the 582 Montgomery's. I was surprised the guy that sold these to the LCS didn't keep this one.

These 40 cards came from Sportlots. I picked them up all for $1 or less. A lot of them were under $.20. I realize there isn't anything flashy up there but for awhile, his cards were hard to come by cheap so this was a nice big lot and a decent add to the collection.

This is one of those manufactured relics that are so freaking thick. I'm not fan of these because of it but I have found a way to store them in my binders. I use 8 card pages, they fit in those easily and let's face it, most of these manu-relics are horizontal which works best in those pages. This isn't your average manu-relic, it's the gold version which are serial numbered to /50. The best part is I didn't pay a dime for it. Sluggo threw it in on one of his buys at the Shipshewana show and just gave it to me for helping out. Sweet!

These 42 cards give me 118 cards of Robert. A long way from when I first started. I picked up 12 cards from 2018-2020, back when they were more expensive. I picked up 36 last year and I am up to 70 for this year.

Happy Thanksgiving

 Happy Thanksgiving all!

I figured I'd pop out a post real quick while I'm killing time before going to my mom's for lunch and my sister-in-laws for dinner. I just finished watching the Michigan basketball game from yesterday. It went better than their last one but I'm still not sure how good they are going to be.

Today's post, however, doesn't have anything to do with Michigan which is rare these days.

Again, you know the story behind the 582 Montgomery's that I picked up at my LCS.

These 5 however, came from Sportlots, all with the Nationals. I don't think it really even looks like him, he looks so young.

These 6 cards give me 169 cards of Lucas which keeps me in 1st place on TCDB by 30 cards.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

New 1st Basemen?

With Jose Abreu going the free agent route, today's post might be our next 1st basemen. Personally, I'd like to see Jose return, he reminds me on Konerko in that he gets no respect. He's one of the best hitter's in the game, a former MVP, he's led the league in hits and average before. Yet, people still pitch to him with bases open. No respect. The writing is on the wall as they say, I don't think the Sox are going to sign him again but we'll see.

This guy has all of that potential but he hasn't put it all together yet. I like him and am glad he's on the team but he's no Abreu, yet.

Only one card today and you already know the story of these 2022 582 Montgomery cards, at least if you're a regular reader you do. I do like these city connect jerseys and am glad they made it to a few cards.

This is my 51st card of Andrew.

Frozen and Fallen

I froze my ass off yesterday. The game time temperature was mid 20's throughout the game. Which was bad enough but there was an average wind speed of 15 to 20 mph. I couldn't find what the wind chill was but I overheard someone saying it was 12 degrees. It felt like it. It was an ugly game, but we pulled it out in the end. I'll be honest, I was hoping for a blowout and I was going to leave early since it was so cold. It ended up being a field goal with 20 seconds left win so I stayed for it all. I took Sluggo (ND fan) because he wanted to see the Big House. He was impressed even if he couldn't feel his hands and feet.

Today's post is fitting since I went and watched him yesterday. Although he only played the first half (and 1 play in the 2nd) and on some boards, is the leading candidate for the Heisman this year. He left with an injury and from where my seats were, I couldn't really see anything but I watched the game this morning and it looked like maybe his knee hyperextended but I believe they are saying it's a bruise so hopefully he'll be good for Ohio next week.

I will say this is where the majority of my excitement for NIL comes from, I knew we'd start getting cards of current players. I just wish it was from someone who had a license so the jerseys were messed with.

I'll just pretend it's the angle of the photograph is why I can't see the wings on the helmet. This is my 2nd card of Blake, the other is the Chrome Pink version of this base card.

Another thing I like about the NIL is learning what these kids (I guess young adults) are doing with some of the money. I've seen a lot of them doing things in the community and that is awesome to see. Last year, Blake gave away turkeys at this time of the year in some low income communities and he's doing the same thing this year. I think it just says a lot about the kid. I'm also hoping NIL keeps these kids in school longer because it sucks as soon as someone starts to play well, they bolt for the pros, mainly for the money. I don't blame them, it just sucks for the fan of the school.
