Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

A pair of shortstops

It's been a few days but that's because I hadn't gotten anything, not because of my usual slacker self not posting. I did get a couple of envelopes today, both of the manila kind but one came USPS, one UPS. Oddly enough, the real cheap one came UPS and the more expensive came USPS. Let's check out the UPS first.

I added another Ripken card to that player collection with this pick up for $.23/shipped. This is my 339th card of the Iron Man and my 28th card of his gotten this year.

I also picked up this Alexie relic card from 2014 Topps. It's kind of a busy design but it works. I grabbed this for $1.36/shipped which to me, is a great price for a relic of our starting shortstop for a 8 years. This is my 218th pick up for the White Sox collection so far this year.

A 3 envelope Monday

I got 3 envelopes today, although one of them contained a card I had already won a week ago. Since I didn't have it in hand yet, it wasn't on my spreadsheets yet. The seller I bought it from turned around and relisted it again and I didn't catch it until I bid on it. Oh well. At least I didn't pay a fortune for it.

I'm going to start with the vintage package. I bid on a bunch of cards from the 1967 Topps set from a seller. Now, when I search for my collection, my parameters are under a quarter and free shipping. This guys listings came up and I bid on a bunch of them. I ended up winning 7 of them and he sent me an invoice that said $2/shipping on it. I went back and looked at his listings and while he did mark free shipping, he had it in his description that it was $.50 shipping and $.25 per card after that. I sent him an email and told him to either cancel the order or send me an invoice minus the shipping charges. Unlike the guy I had a couple of weeks ago, I don't think this one was intentional. I went back and looked at other listings of his and he does offer free shipping on some of his cards, mainly the higher dollar ones. So I just don't think he changed the shipping when he listed these cards. He responded by sending me a new invoice but he made a comment about losing money. I paid for them and then told him I would have been okay if he would have cancelled them, I understand mistakes happen and like I said, I don't think he was trying to pull a fast one. Anyways, I got his cards today.

These 7 cards from the 1967 Topps set are definitely a nice add to a set I don't get to add to much to often. I picked them all up for $.25/shipped/each and they only put that set at 34 cards completed. These 7 cards also put me at 300 cards picked up for the Vintage Collection so far this year.

I also picked up this 2017 Opening Day card for the team sets. I grabbed it for $.23/shipped. It brings the opening day set to needing 8 cards but I'm guessing it's not overly large to begin with because I don't think I've picked up to many of them.

Vintage, Sox and Player, oh my!

I've had a busy couple of days so I have a few cards to show. Thursday and Friday I spent at what will be my new job when my current job decides to release me and then yesterday we had a wedding out of town and didn't get back till late so there you go. I do have 3 envelopes to get caught up on, including the rest of the cards from the post a few days ago.

Both of these Astros vintage cards came from one seller and he would be the one that split my purchase between 2 shipments. As long as I get everything, I'm cool with that. I picked up both cards for $.23/shipped/each. The 1979 Andujar is my 331st from that set.

I picked this up as a single card from a seller I get stuff from all the time so it's rare to only get 1 card but it must have been a slow week from winning stuff. I picked up this Expos card for $.16/shipped. This card along with the 1977 above it makes 117 cards for that set.

The 3 vintage cards above make 293 cards picked up for the Vintage Collection so far this year.

I picked up this Frank Thomas from 2003 for $.25/shipped. I needed it for the team set but I'm still 11 cards short for it. This card is my 216th card picked up for the White Sox collection so far this year.

This picture doesn't do the shininess of this card justice. I picked up this Devin Funchess from 2015 Donruss (Panini) for $.21/shipped. This is my 21st card of the Funchess collection and the 4th card of his picked up this year.

MLB and NFL

I got another envelope today and it wasn't even the other cards that I won with yesterdays cards. Check em out.

I picked up this future pitcher (bullpen at the rate his pro career started a few nights ago) for the Sox. Apparently, Optic is the chrome version of Donruss. I grabbed this for $.25/shipped. This was actually a 2 card lot of the same card and I still got it for a quarter.

I also nabbed this one for $.25/shipped from the same seller.  I didn't realize I just won it and he relisted another one and I'm currently winning it so I may end up with dupes. This is my 15th card of his but only my 2nd one picked up this year.

From 5 to 2 to 1 card

I got a couple of cards in the mail today, I actually ordered and paid for 5 cards all at once from the same seller and then today, I received 2 of them in the mail. I don't know what's going on with that but I'll wait a few days and see if the rest come. Out of the 2, one of them I already had. Some days I just bid on vintage without checking, this must have been one of those days.

I picked up this for the 1979 set. I paid $.23/shipped for the vintage collection addition. It is my 330th card for that set which I'm slowly inching up to the half way point. This is also my 290th pick-up for the Vintage Collection this year.

In case you missed yesterday's post on Too Many Manninghams, I got these 3 cards over the weekend. Click the link to check out the details.

I got a card

I got 1 card in the mail today. While it might be considered junk wax, it's still a Hall of Famer and one of those unusual cards when you see him in a certain uniform and it just doesn't look right.

Gary Carter with the Giants? While it's odd to see him in a Giants uniform, it is my 6th card with him in those colors. Being a 1991 Donruss, I was surprised I didn't already win it. Either way, here it is. I grabbed it for $.20/shipped. It's my 108th card for that collection and my 9th pick up of his this year.

Sundays cards

Yeah, I forgot to get the mail yesterday. I really never left the house so I didn't think about it. It was one envelope from a seller that I've had an issue with. Awhile ago, I won an auction from him and he didn't want to ship the item because I won it so cheaply. He ended up sending it when I told him not to list it with free shipping or start the auction at a penny, it was his fault, not mine. I don't usually buy from that seller anymore but sometimes I bid on his stuff because my searches are set for under a quarter and free shipping, I usually just put my bid in and click submit before I realize who is selling it. I think it's BS how he lists his stuff now and I don't know if it's legit or not. At the top of the page, underneath the bid he has it listed as such:

That's the only thing I really look at when I'm bidding, I rarely look at the description. I bid on so many cards that I don't want to take the time to read each description. The top of the listing shows the shipping and condition and that's all I care about anyways. Ever since he had an issue with me winning cards so cheap, he puts this in his description.

I don't think he should be allowed to list it as free at the top, if he has these conditions in the description. I know his account name so usually I just don't bid on his stuff but like I said above, sometimes I bid before I realize he is the seller. That happened a week ago when I won this.

I picked this up for $.22, it's a refractor so I wasn't sure I would win it and when I realized I did and who the seller was, I was thinking great, I'm not getting it. I've won his stuff occasionally and he usually just cancels it because I refuse to pay for shipping. I wish he would just block me as a buyer so his stuff wouldn't show up in my feed. I was going to block him but I have to do that on every search and I have one for each player collection, plus a bunch for vintage and team and I didn't want to spend a day doing it.

He ended up listing a bunch of Sox autos and relics a week later and they were under my minimum so I bid on them anyways. There were about 5 or 6 of them so I was hoping to come away with at least 1 so I could get the card above. Well, I managed to win 2.

Technically, they are the same card but I don't mind dupes of relics or autos. It's nice that both relics are obviously different as well. I got the black relic piece for my max bid of $3 and the white relic piece for $1.77. These 2 Konerko's make 13 cards picked up this year and also bumped that collection up to 425 cards. When I went to look and see how many cards I had and to add these 2 cards to my sheets, I realized I already had this card. I clicked the link to see it and funny enough, it's also a different relic piece.

All 3 of those cards also make 214 cards picked up for the White Sox collection this year.

Lots of great cards today

I received 4 envelopes with 8 cards in them today. Busy day at the mailbox for me. Some great cards as well so let's get to it.

I picked up this 1993 Topps Gold version of Ozzie for a quarter shipped. I still need a ton for the gold version team set. If I recall, I didn't even look to see if I had it when I put the bid in, I just assumed I didn't.

I also picked up this 2005 Leaf from the same seller, also for a quarter shipped. This is my 110th card of Schmidt and my 14th picked up this year.

I actually bid on 3 of these and won all of them. The same seller had a 2 card lot and a single and I won both. I keep extra refractors so I wasn't worried about that though. Dennis, if you need one of these I'll drop it your way if you'd like. I won the single for $.22/shipped and the 2 card lot for $.48/shipped ($.24 per card). I only include one in my list of Funchess cards though so this card puts that collection at 20 cards now and is only my 3rd card of his picked up this year.

I picked up this Zach Putnam auto for the Michigan collection as well. I actually already have this card but I keep dupes of auto's and especially if they are numbered because they are technically different. I grabbed this for the minimum bid of $2.99/shipped. I'm pretty sure I have another one of these (a 3rd) only it's got a different serial number, a smaller amount of cards but I can't find any record of it. I'll look for it when I go to put this one away. It is my 10th pick-up for the Michigan collection this year.

I got this auto of Matt Davidson from the same seller as the Putnam above, also for $2.99/shipped. Davidson is a part of our rebuild and considering he is our HR leader right now, I'd say he's doing all right. He's still considered a rookie even though he had 32 games played previous to this season. This is actually my 3rd different autograph I've picked up.

I also picked up this single card from another seller for $2.99/shipped. He's a highly tauted rookie that we drafted. He just got sent back to the minors but I think it was more for some seasoning. He's another big part of this rebuild for the future so another one I was happy to pick up. These 3 cards put the White Sox pick-ups for this year at 211 cards.

Zimmy

It's nice that the kids went back to school because my daughter always grabs the mail on the way in from the bus where as in the summer, I have to remember to go and get it when I get home from work and I don't always remember to do so.

A couple of days after complaining that I hardly watch any games anymore because they never win and they realed off 2 wins against the first place Astros. Maybe I should complain more about them on here.

I did get one card in the mail and it's for a player collection.

I know I've bid on this card plenty of times I could never come away with it but I finally nabbed it for $.25. This is my 85th card of Ryan and my 6th card of his that I've gotten so far this year.

Vintage pick-ups

I got another envelope today with a couple of Vintage cards in it.

I got these for $.20/shipped and $.23/shipped. These 2 cards bring the 1977 Topps set up to 115 cards and 289 cards picked up for the Vintage collection so far this year.

2 Hall of Famers

I haven't been watching to much baseball lately, mainly because we keep losing. While I would love to watch every game, who has 3 hours a day, six days a week? I could probably make the time but I try not to make my wife suffer to much, she hates baseball. So my general rule is, I DVR every game and then watch the one where they win. I mean who really wants to watch when you know they're going to lose. With them losing so much lately (I'm not going to say how many in a row now), I haven't watched to many. Let's just say we are in the race for the #1 draft pick this year. I did watch some live games last week while the wife was away on vacation though.

I did get an envelope today so there is that. I also dropped $15 on cards in one day which says a lot but I'll get to those when they come in. Let's check out today's Hall of Famers.

I picked up this 2016 Allen & Ginter for $.25/shipped. This is my 48th card of Yaz and my 14th of his picked up this year.

I'm always happy to pick up a Tom Seaver card, even if it's a newer one. This 2017 Archives card also came at $.25/shipped. It's only my 5th of his this year but it's my 352nd card of his player collection.

An extra M

I did manage to get 1 card in the mail today. I grabbed this card for the Vintage collection.

I picked up this 1977 for $.23/shipped. I mainly know Bruce Kimm from his short stint as the White Sox coach and that's mainly because I remember his last name on a jersey, probably the extra M in his last name stuck out for me. This is my 113th card of that set and my 287th pick up for the Vintage collection this year.

6 card Tuesday

I received some cards today, woo hoo. It seems like shipments have slowed down but that's alright. I'm sure it will pick up again. Apparently, it's the norm to get 6 cards on a Tuesday.

I picked up this 2016 Heritage of Danks for $.23/shipped. It doesn't put me much closer to finishing the team set, I still need 7 more cards.

I picked up these 2, I guessed on whether I had them or not because apparently I hadn't added this set to my want lists so I went back and did that. After cross checking my list with the cards I have, I came back with only needing 3 more after these 2 so that worked out well. I picked them both up for $.16/each/shipped.

I got these 2 Ripken's from the same seller as the Heritage up above. I picked up the 1992 Ultra for $.13/shipped and the 1996 Topps for $.25/shipped. These 2 make 27 Ripken cards picked up this year and puts that collection at 337 cards.

Even though he has struggled some this year, I like Timmy so I was happy to pick up this auto for $2.99/shipped. This card, along with the 3 other White Sox cards above, means I have picked up 208 cards for the White Sox collection so far this year.
