Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Happy Birthday - Michael Kopech

Granted, I have a lot of player collections but it's a busy birthday week.

Michael was born in 1996 which makes him 25 today.

MLB Debut - August 21, 2018 (White Sox)

Years Active -

  • 2018 & 2020 (White Sox)
Was drafted by the Red Sox

White Sox card

In 2019, he was out with Tommy John surgery and he opted out of 2020 because of Covid. He debuted with the White Sox because he was traded to us from the Red Sox before he played a major league game.

Cards listed on TCDB - 2077

Cards I have - 49

Where they came from -

  • Sluggo (27 cards)
  • Sportlots (9 cards)
  • Ebay (6 cards)
  • Packs (3 cards)
  • Padrographs (2 cards)
  • Fred (1 card)
  • Unknown (1 card)

I don't have any relics or autos, yet.

Kopech is pitching lights out this season. The plan was to keep in the bullpen for a couple of months but he's gotten the chance to start 2 games and made a really strong case that he stays there. We'll see what happens because we don't really have a weak spot in the rotation.

Happy Birthday Michael!

Happy Birthday - Luis Aparicio

Apparently you'll get 2 posts today because I didn't check my calendar for birthdays before I did the last post.

Luis was born in 1934 making him 87 today.

MLB Debut - April 17th, 1956 (White Sox)

Years Active -

  • 1956-1962 (White Sox)
  • 1963-1967 (Orioles)
  • 1968-1970 (White Sox)
  • 1971-1973 (Red Sox)
My 2 oldest - 1958 & 1959 - Chicago White Sox

Baltimore Orioles

Boston Red Sox

I just realized that if I pick up the 1964 Topps that I will have the complete run from 1960-1974. I still need to pick up his 50's cards as well.

Cards listed on TCDB - 2206

Cards I have - 114 (1 not on TCDB)

Most of my Aparicio collection are modern cards which isn't surprising because of when he played.

Where They Came From -

Pretty spread out and lots of love from my fellow bloggers.

A couple of relics.

And one Manufactured Manupatch or whatever they are called.

We'll see how many more I can get by his next birthday.

Happy Birthday Luis!

Quarry Cards

A quick post before I head to bed.

As I'm sure most of you know, Johnny over at Cards From the Quarry hosts a Sunday PWE Trade Bait where you can pick cards (he posts one from every team) and he will PWE them to you in exchange for something off his want list (or other cards he can trade). I selected a bunch and got them in a few envelopes. I had to go to Sportlots to grab stuff for him because I didn't have anything in my very limited trade box.

Everyone of these beauties are numbered. 1 current member (Engel) and 1 World Series Champion (Jenks). Here are the numbers breakdown. 28th card of Jenks, 14th of Engel, 3rd card of Carter, 6th of Fry, 53rd card of Peavy and 151st card of Sale.

A couple more in different envelopes. This boxey Frazier and an Icons Dye. I really thought I had the Dye when it came up but apparently not. I think I have a Thome from the same set that's numbered. It is my 33rd card of Frazier and 89 cards of Dye.

I really appreciate these serial numbered cards because I tend to buy cheap which means, serial numbered are usually out of my price range.

Happy Birthday Barry Larkin

Barry was born in 1964 which makes him 57 years old today.

MLB Debut - August 13th, 1986 (Reds)

Year Active -

  • Cincinnati Reds (1986-2004)
A couple of rookies

Cards listed on TCDB - 6117

Cards I have - 490

It was tough to pick out some cards of Barry because I have so many but there you go.

Where they came from -

  • Sportlots (249 cards)
  • Too Many Verlanders (81 cards)
  • Baseballcardstore.CA (20 cards)
  • Ebay (84 cards)
  • Just Commons (17 cards)
  • Nachos Grande (15 cards)
  • Unknown (15 cards)
  • Sluggo (6 cards)
  • 2x3 Heroes (2 cards)
  • Card Show (2 cards)
  • Packs (2 cards)
  • COMC (1 card)

Sportslots being the top dog here is no surprise, I have a ton more coming too so I definitely know this collection will go up from now until he turns 58.

You know I have to show Larkin in his Maize and Blue.

I do have a couple of relics. I like the pinstripe.

I collect Larkin as he was a big part of my childhood and it was only a bonus that he played at Michigan. I liked him before I was a Michigan fan actually.

Happy Birthday Barry Larkin!

80's love

I mentioned in my last card, non birthday or music, post that once I get close to my budget on Sportlots, I check my shopping cart to make sure that I'm buying at least 4 cards from each seller. When I open the sellers page, by default, it goes to whichever sport they have the most of (usually baseball) and their oldest cards listed. Sometimes I'll open it up and it'll have 80's cards listed so I'll look and see what they have.

I picked up these 3 from a seller. I know it's nothing exciting since it's 1986 Donruss but they bump me over 500 cards to 501 for that set which is just over 75% completed.

I only needed 2 cards from this seller and grabbed the top 2, then I saw the bottom 2 and grabbed them as well. The Brett was $.35 but the Parker was the minimum at $.18. These 4 give me 466 cards which is just over 70% completed.

Unlike the other 2 sets, this one isn't as far done but I've been picking up some here and there lately. I do enjoy this set as 1981 was when I first started buying packs. I didn't get a bunch of Donruss but I do remember opening some of them up. These 4 only give me 106 cards which is just over 16% completed.

Happy Birthday - Joe Crede

You get 2 posts today because there is 2 birthday boys.

Joe was born in 1978 which makes him 43 today.

MLB Debut - September 12th, 2000 (White Sox)

Years Active -

  • Chicago White Sox (2000-2008)
  • Minnesota Twins (2009)

Minor League card

White Sox Rookie card

Minnesota Twins card

Cards on TCDB - 972

Cards I Have - 131

I picked out a few cool looking cards.

Also figured I'd show his 3 cards from the World Series Champions set.

Where They Came From -

I have 3 relic cards.

And 1 autograph. I need to get a more current auto instead of a minor league one.

I collect Crede because he's my favorite 3rd baseman of all time and is probably in my top 3 favorite White Sox. I truly believe we don't win the World Series in 2005 if he wasn't on the team. Between his stellar defense and his clutch hitting, he was a stud. I wish he wouldn't have had back problems that cut his career short.

Happy Birthday Joe!

*All cards shown are in my collection but the photos come from TCDB. The 3 relic cards are all my photos off of TCDB.
