Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Stamp collection

I started logging my cards in that I got yesterday at the show. I came home with quite the stack. I did have a few already so those are going back to Sluggo's. I actually randomed a few times today because the first 2 players that came up, I have new cards of but I haven't scanned them yet so I figured I'd wait until I can add those to the post.

Today, you get a Tier 3 collection. It's only 1 card and it technically goes into 2 collections and it's a cool looking card even if it's of the manufactured kind.

Not only is it a relic, and a stamp, but it's also numbered to 100. I know it's kind of a cheesy card but like I said, it looks cool.  Plus, even though you can barely see it, he's wearing the '83 jerseys.

This is my 204th card of the lefty. It's only my 2nd relic of his. I've been eyeballing a couple of autos that we have for sale but they are over my budget so I haven't pulled the trigger. They just keep staring at me from our showcases.

3rd base legend

Today, we traveled up to Lansing to the card show there. It was a great show as far as attendance but our sales were down compared to our last one. We usually have a couple bigger sales that bump up the sales but we didn't have any today. We had a couple of mid-range sales but nothing big. It was still a great show financially, just not as much as we were expecting. On the plus side, Kevin bought a couple of 3 throw boxes of half off cards from Hollister's, who knows Michigan players so he always throws a bunch in. So I spent part of the show going through those boxes and filling up on cards for myself. The bad part is, I spent a fortune that I was trying not to spend. Damn Kevin! I'll log those in today so you'll start to see those mixed in with the current posts.

Today's post is a guy I rarely get to add to so it was great to pick these up. He's probably my favorite 3rd baseman of all time but I'm partial to him as he was our World Series hero.

I did only get only one though but it was appreciated. Dennis sent this to me in his Christmas package. It is numbered to /999. I have another one of these HR derby contest cards, I want to say it's a Konerko.

I picked up a couple more cards for Dennis today as well so I might almost be ready to send a package his way soon.

This is my 182nd card of Joe. Last I looked, I was #1 on TCDB. Apparently somebody logged in over 300 of his so now I'm #2.

Billy, but not the kid

I'm sorting multiple sets of the 582 Montgomery from last year for the LCS. I'm going through each set (11 of them) and pulling certain players and rookies. Although the guy who sold the cards to the LCS took out most of the rookies and huge stars but I have found a few rookies. Kevin and I are doing a show tomorrow in Lansing so I probably won't finish them until Sunday and I'll return them on Monday. Hopefully, he'll have something else for me to sort.

Today's post is old school. It's of my dad's favorite player.

I bought this from Kevin for a couple of bucks, it's the blue version and is numbered to /25. I don't even have the base.

I picked this up at my LCS, it was a throw in for helping him sort some cards. I sorted a 5000 count box and put them all in players and he let me take a stack of cards, this being one of them.

I also picked this up there, this is another card I found in the $3 each, 4 for $10 box. It's numbered to /99. I hate when they put a different teams patch on the cards. Just put him in his A's jersey on the card. I know why they did it, Cubs sell more than the A's (I'm guessing) but I think the team of the jersey should match the info on the card. This card doesn't bother me but if I was a Cubs collector and didn't catch it when I purchased, I might be upset.

These 3 cards give me 115 different of Billy. This collection is steadily moving along. I've only picked up 12 of his in the last couple of years.

Nice, with an O

Nothing too exciting going on around here, we're in the midst of a snowstorm. We're getting pretty wet, big flakes and it's definitely accumulating but it's been in the 30's all day so it hasn't been sticking on the roads. It can snow all it wants as long as the roads stay clear. I'm comfortable driving in the snow and I trust myself, however, I don't trust anybody else and people can be stupid.

Today's post is another former Wolverine who plays regularly, or at least he was last time I looked.

You gotta love the cards with the Block M's. Dennis sent this one to me in his Christmas package. I told you I was still on my December pick-ups.

You've already seen this card when I posted the Charles Woodson cards, you'll see it again when I post Aidan Hutchinson so I guess you know one of the posts that are coming up at some time. It was also a Christmas gift, but this one was from my mother.

I mentioned a post or 2 ago about getting a card out of the LCS's $3/each or 4 for $10 box. That's where both of these came from as well. Can't complain about getting relics for $2.25 each, both rookies and one of them numbered. They were my 1st 2 relics of him as well.

These 4 cards give me 18 of Nico.

Paye for it

I stopped by the LCS and picked up some cards to sort for him so I'll be grabbing some cards for myself. Kevin (Sluggo) is sorting as well and he called me with 30 something cards for me that he pulled as well so I look forward to adding those, probably this weekend.

Your not here for my life though, let's get to the cards.

I picked these up at the last Plymouth show. The guy that sets up caddy corner from us is a Michigan guy so I usually hit him up for a few Michigan cards. I picked up these 2 in a small stack of Michigan cards, they were the only 2 modern cards in the stack that I needed but I grabbed a couple others for the Michigan collection. They ended up less than $1 a piece. The card on the left is the Pink parallel and the one on the right is the Silver.

I also picked this one up from Sluggo. It is the Sunburst parallel and it's very shiny.

These 3 cards give me 15 cards of Kwity.

Trash Talk and LCS's

My AGM at work is a Purdue graduate. Today he asked me, what's Michigan ranked? It's his favorite question this year in regards to basketball. I answered, #2, in the Big Ten, right behind you. He just shook his head. It wasn't a lie, but Purdue is 11-1 and Michigan is 5-3. The real answer to his question of course, is we aren't ranked.

Today's post is another former Wolverine, but this is a former basketball player.

This is the Silver parallel, I picked it up at the LCS. I think it was a dollar card but I got a discount so I didn't pay that much. This card gives me 7 of the younger Wagner brother.

I actually had a customer ask me for Franz Wagner cards at the show on Saturday.

Which speaking of LCS's, there is a new one coming to town. It opens in February, although it's named Irish Connection for ND (blah!). I'm going to tell the guy it's going to be awkward wearing Michigan in there but I will make sure I always do. I haven't seen him since he announced the name of the shop though.

It's been a long time

Yesterday, we set up at the Lima show in Ohio. It was a really good show, it was packed. They advertised 180 tables and there was at least that. Usually, I man the tables and Kevin (Sluggo) will go out and shop but he didn't get any time until the end of the show because there was constantly 4 or 5 people standing at our tables. Our basketball showcase hardly got touched, which is rare but our football showcase got wiped over half gone. We sold some baseball showcase but not a ton. We even made quite a bit of money on the dollar to five dollar cards. It was worth the almost 3 hour drive, the only negative I would have to say is way too many Ohio fans, I made sure I kept my Michigan hat on. They were mostly pleasant though so I can't complain. It did make it easier to talk to them knowing we've spaned them the last couple of years.

Today's post is a former Michigan player and it's a collection that I haven't added to in over 2 1/2 years so I was definitely glad to pick this card.

I picked it up at my LCS. It was in a $3/each or 4 for $10 box. I did find 3 others to go with it so I grabbed it for $2.25 which is a good price for an ugly auto.

This is only my 3rd card of Zach and my 2nd auto.

Free as a Bird

I'm just going to throw out my last new PC real quick. The next couple of days are birthday posts and then when those are out of the way, I can start fresh on December pick-ups. I usually type up blogs while I'm watching TV but I was streaming the Michigan basketball game on my laptop so I couldn't blog and now it's late.

There were 2 guys I really liked in the NBA while growing up, one was Jordan but everybody collects him and he has millions of cards but I thought I would start up my first non-Michigan NBA PC of the other guy.

These are the first Bird cards that I started with. They all came from the boxes of Sluggo's that I was sorting.

These 15 came from Sluggo as well but he pulled them from his dollar boxes once he found out I was starting the collection. Lots of shiny newer cards, really like the cracked ice versions up there.

Sluggo and I did some sorting for our LCS, he has boxes and boxes of stuff and I volunteered to help him out in exchange for cards. I pulled anything that I wanted out of the boxes that I wanted since most of the cards were stars but they were base so you can't get a ton of money for it. He has one guy that buys that stuff so he had no problem with me taking a few cards. I sorted MLB (you'll see what I grabbed later) and Sluggo did NBA, he pulled all of these for me and I added them to my stack.

So technically, all 60 of these cards that I'm starting the PC with, were all free to me. That's the way to start PC's.
