Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Quick pick ups

As I sit around on Halloween night while my wife tends to all the trick-or-treaters, I figured I could get a quick post out.

When I went to the LCS last week to drop off the stuff I sorted, I noticed his half off box was full again so I went through it. I found a few plus he gave me a few more.

I don't know who it is but it's a Pro Debut blue which are numbered. It was free so I took it.

He also gave me these 2 parallels, one of Eloy and another of Anderson. The Eloy is a blue Gypsy Queen numbered to /150. The Anderson is a Magenta refractor and is numbered to /399.

All 3 of the above go to the White Sox collection as well.

I found both of these in the half off box, both former Wolverines. The Nwogu is numbered to /99, the Poole is a pink came refractor. Last season Nwogu played right here for the South Bend Cubs, I don't know if he got promoted or not. Even though both of these were in the half off box, he just gave them to me so I got 100% off.

HOF'ers and more

Today's post are the cards I returned to the shop last weekend. I organized the list players for my LCS, luckily, it was baseball as I have more than a few PC's that align with the list. The list consists of players that the guy we sell them too has guys that he can sell, there is a list of current and older non HOF'ers plus any HOF'er is included.

Let's see what I got to keep.

We'll start with the team collections.

A couple of Minnie Minoso, a Frank Thomas and an Early Wynn. Not too bad to start with it. I've been getting a lot of the platinum anniversary cards lately.

The 2 Minoso's give me 15 of him.

1019 of Frank Thomas now which is the only player I have over 1k of.

The shiny Wynn gives me 10 of him.

Next up are Tier 3 which a bunch of my PC's are HOF'ers.

I added 4 more of Johnny Bench. The top 2 are from this years Donruss but the bottom 2 I had never seen before. The left one is from the Ted Williams set in 1993. While the right one looks familiar, it is actually an insert set from the 1992 Upper Deck set, not the 2008 set.

These 4 cards give me 238 cards of Johnny.

I also picked up a couple more cards of the kid. One old, one fairly new. With all the sorting of junk wax I've done, you would think I already had the 1988 Donruss All-Star. The other is a Select from 2022.

These 2 give me 349 cards of Carter.

I added 7 more of Mike Schmidt. The top 5 are all from the previously mentioned Ted Williams set, only a year later. The bottom row consists of 1989 Cereal Superstars, I'd be curious what cereal they came from. The right is a 2022 Archives card.

These 7 give me 351 cards of Schmidt.

I also got 1 of Yastrzemski. This is a 2005 Fan Favorite, the 2nd 1963 look-a-like of this post.

This Yaz gives me 183 cards.

Next up are my Tier 2 PC's.

I found 2 more of Pudge, 1 from each of the Sox. You see another of the Platinum Anniversary cards. Along with a Topps Finest from 1993.

These 2 give me 380 of Fisk.

I picked up an Eloy Prizm, but not my only Prizm of this post. This is also a milestone card of Eloy.

This card gives me 200 cards of the Big Baby which puts me #5 on TCDB.

You get another Prizm White Sox with these 3 additions of Moncada. Along with a 2021 Chrome and a 2022 A&G. I've been picking up the A&G's a lot recently.

These 3 give me 226 cards of Yoan which puts me at #1 on TCDB.

It was nice to grab a few of Larkin (I think I got a few for Dennis as well). You see another 2022 A&G only of the X (not old Twitter) variety. A 1998 Chrome which you don't see too often and the one on the right is a Stadium Club Member's only 55 (not sure what the 55 is about). I had never seen that one before. I also got this Showcase Series from 1998 Score.

These 4 give me 746 of the former Wolverine.

I also managed to get a couple from my Tier 1 collections.

I found another 2023 Donruss in the form of Tom Terrific and a 2015 Stadium Club of Aparicio. Nothing too flashy but needs all the same.

The Aparicio gives me 134 cards which moves me into the #1 spot on TCDB.

The Seaver gives me 575 cards which puts me at #4 on TCDB.

Free Show Pick-ups

I finally got the last sort done for my LCS so I went with Kevin this morning to drop them off. He gave me a bunch more to sort but they are NFL and NBA list players so I won't get much for myself as I only have a couple PC's that I can think of that are list players. Mainly 3 HOF'ers. Charles Woodson, Chris Webber and Larry Bird. We are slow enough right now that work is shut down Monday and Tuesday as well so I asked for a bunch to do since I have the time.

Today's post are a bunch of boxes that we bought at the Niles show last weekend. The guys set across from us (whom we know really well) had purchased a 3 row box from another dealer, as he was walking buy, we asked what he paid. He said $125, Kevin said I'll give you $150 without even looking at it. Sold. A little bit later, another dealer bought 4 boxes from another one. He walked by and Kevin asked what he paid. He said $175, Kevin said I'll give you $200 without looking. Sold. So I spent the next hour or so between customers going through the boxes and grabbed what I needed.

Starting with the team collections.

All of these were in the 4 boxes. It was mainly rookies & base stuff. Lots of players that I like though.

Next up, are Tier 3 Collections

I found these 2 of Bench. I've seen the Stadium Club before, not a fan of it, it's just weird. I'm not sure how I didn't have it before.

Now for the Tier 2.

I also picked up these 3 of Anderson. The fire is base but the other 2 are parallels. These 3 make 228 cards of Mr. Anderson.

Always like to pick up Mr. Perfect cards as I don't get too many anymore. This one gives me 384 of Buehrle, only the 2nd one that I have produced since 2016.

I also picked up this winter card of Dylan Cease. This gives me 99 cards of Dylan, one away from the century mark.

Also found these 2 of Jimenez. The mini or whatever you want to call it, I already had with the 3 together and since TCDB has them listed as one and as seperate cards, I went ahead and tore them apart. You already saw the Abreu up top, the other is in this post as well. These 2 cards make 199 of Jimenez, only 1 card from the 2 century mark.

I did find one Larkin that I needed and a Stadium Club too boot. Photography is always great (except that weird Bench card up there). This card gives me 742.

One addition to the Moncada collection as well.  This Topps Fire card gives me 223 of him.

These 3 Robert's were a nice find. You see the last piece to the card from the Triple Play in the middle. The 1st card is a 70 years of Topps and the last card is an image variation but it's not listed as a short print. Not sure what's up with that. It's a rookie card so there is that. These 3 give me 197 cards of Robert so once again, just a few cards short of the double century mark.

2 cards of Vaughn, both rookies. I had never see the first one and it's thick. It's apparently a Brooklyn Collection and the other an Optic Rated Prospects. These 2 give me 95 of Vaughn, just a little more than a few for that first century mark.

Next up Tier 2 Michigan

I also found 2 of Iggy, one being an Auto. It was actually weird as there was hardly any autos/relics but this card was in there. Either way, I'll take it along with the rookie Silver Wave. These 2 give me 30 cards of Brazdeikis.

That was actually the only Tier 2 Michigan but I did manage one from Tier 1 too.

I thought I already had this insert but of course, even the inserts have parallels. This is a die cut parallel of Tom Terrific. This card gives me 575 cards of him.

I still have 2 more pick up posts left. The cards I got from last weeks sort and I picked up a few cards at my LCS today. Plus we're doing a show on Sunday, so we'll see if I bring any cards home from that as well.

New and Old PC's

On Saturday, we did the show in Niles but after the show, while unloading everything out of the car, Kevin gave me a stack of cards for me that he pulled while sorting. I went through them on Sunday morning and got them logged in so here we are.

We'll start with the Team collection cards.

Kevin doesn't save many base cards for me because I have so many but he does set aside parallels and inserts in case I need them. The Engal is the 150th Anniversary, the Danks is the Blue and the Bummer is the Gold.

Next up is Tier 3.

A lot of the cards he gave me were the next 2 players. He sent me 9 cards of Dwight Gooden. They boost me up to 156 which isn't bad considering I've only been collecting him for a few months.

He also gave me these 18 card of Strawberry, I prefer them in Mets uniforms but I guess these will do. I started this collection the same time as Gooden and this one is up to 152 cards so just below him.

On to Tier 2.

He also added 3 parallels of Vaughn. The Pink Holo, the Ice Holo and the Red parallel of Stadium Club with the usual great photography.

Lastly, the Tier 2 Michigan collection.

Another Pink Holo and another Red Stadium Club. These 2 give me 76 of Cronenworth, Jake is one of the players that Kevin knows went to Michigan. I don't even want to think about how many players he probably passes up that I could use.

At least he knows the guys when they have the Maize and Blue on. He gave me this Ronnie Bell and Kwity Paye. It is my 5th card of Bell and my 39th of Paye.

These were great to see just before we stomped State again. Gotta love NIL, just for the cards. This is my 5th card of JJ and my 4th of Blake.

This is my 44th card of Woodson. It's a pretty slick looking card too. I started his collection at the same time I started the Strawberry and Gooden collections.

Now we can get to a couple of new PC's.

These are my first 2 cards of our former TE, Luke Schoonmaker and they both got to keep their helmets clean instead of taking off the wings. He is currently with the Cowboys so he's been getting more cards that I will need to locate.

This is also my 1st card of DJ Turner but I don't believe he's currently on a team so this will probably be one of my PC's that doesn't get very large.

I have one more pickup video for some stuff that I came home with from the show so stay tuned.
