Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Barry! Barry! Barry!

Are you ready for a player PC? He's a former Wolverine, although before I started watching them. He's a Hall of Famer and I actually collect him because of his pro career and not because he played for Michigan.

These 2 came from Jeff at 2x3 Heroes as he sent a ton of different stuff for a lot of my different collections.

As you can see, Chris from Nachos Grande sent me a whole bunch of Larkin. Not surprisingly as he has way more of them than I do. These 15 cards were probably only half of what he sent but I didn't need the rest. They put my Larkin collection at 247 cards. I guess I need to pick up a few more to give me an even 250.

Random Cards #77

I'm hanging out in my card room but not really doing anything other than listening to music so I figured I'd throw one of these up.

I got TCDB yesterday and while watching Michigan suck on the football field, I went through all my Tier 1 players and most of my non-Michigan Tier 2 players and added photos to all the cards I had that weren't on there. I did a bunch of Paul Konerko's where the front of the card was there and the back wasn't. I also realized that I put most of those front pictures on without doing the backs. That was back when I scanned each card individually which is why I didn't have the backs.

I'll try to knock this out before I go grab some lunch. Looking forward to watching Michigan basketball (we're a basketball school now) tonight. Once games start a little later today, I'll probably find a NFL game to have on in the background. We'll see, I just can't really get into the NFL anymore.

Just a reminder that all the photos, except the last one, came from TCDB as I don't have photos of every one of my cards anymore. The Cazzie Russell came off my blog because it wasn't on TCDB which is why I'm gradually going through my cards to add photos to the site, so when I do these posts, all the photos are there. My 1953 Topps don't look that good.

Sparky Knight

Just a quick one today. Apparently the random wants to knock off all of my Vintage posts first. Today is a true vintage as it is in the late 70's.

Jeff of 2x3 Heroes sent me these in the package he sent. As you can tell, there were quite a few vintage in it. Including these 2 from the 1978 set which gives me 178 from the set which is just under a quarter of it.

Another 1985 Set

We all survived our Thanksgiving. I got my Covid test results back and they were negative and I still have 2 more days off of work. I'd say we're having a good weekend so far.

Why not put out a post. The random generator gave us a vintage collection post but it's an 80's set, so it may not thrill most of you but it's a set that we don't see much.

Now remember, I had to get all these card pics from TCDB because I lost my scans so you're going to get a bunch of pics.

Jeff over at 2x3 Heroes sent me all of these 1985 Donruss which are definite needs. I've completed the Fleer and Topps sets from this year and these 14 cards only give me 61 cards from this set. They must not have produced as many cards as Fleer and Topps because I just don't run into them nearly as often.

Happy Thanksgiving w/a card

First off, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. It's a weird holiday this year with the pandemic going on. A week ago we were planning on getting together at my mom's like we usually do but since then, my brother, aunt and uncle and my grandmother have all had positive tests for Covid. So we are all in our own homes today. My wife is still preparing a Thanksgiving feast for us so I'll still get the food but I won't get the time with the family and that's what I really love about the holidays. Just the hanging out and talking. I hope this gets better in the next month or so just so we can still have Christmas together.

If you think we are over reacting, I live in Elkhart county. Google it, we are very high in cases. We are the RV manufacturing capital and most of us have been back to work for awhile. I went and got tested yesterday after work. I'm not expecting a positive but I figured it doesn't hurt to get tested since a ton of people have had it so I've definitely been exposed. It'll be my 3rd Covid test but the other 2 were before a surgery, not because of exposure or symptoms.

I didn't get a post out yesterday for 2 reasons. We were out delivering Thanksgiving food for some of my family because they are shut in and reason number 2 is my Chromebook died on me (I didn't have it plugged in) so I plugged it back in and turned it on and somehow, it lost all my information. I kept trying to log in and it would tell me my password was wrong. I got on my phone and changed my password 3 times and every time when I'd go back to my chromebook, it would say it was wrong. I finally got it to go and when I logged in, all my setting were gone and all my photos were gone. It was like I created a new account. It kept all my bookmarks and my background stuff but it forgot all my passwords and the worst part, the photos being gone meant all my scans were gone for upcoming posts. Needless to say, I was pissed.

I was able to recover some of them because Google photos made copies. I have Google photos settings to make a copy of all the photos on my laptop and my phone, but it sucks. It picks and chooses what days it decides to make back up. Most days it doesn't. So, I was able to recover some of the scans and then I spent most of the morning going through my logs, and downloading photos from TCDB for most of what I lost. The bad part is instead of a few photos with a few cards in each shot, a lot of my posts are going to have 1 card in each of a bunch of photos. I'm really glad I got that Konerko post in before this happened because I posted a ton of cards.

I went to Sportlots today and purchased this weeks cards even though it's not the weekend yet. I usually ship at the end of the month so I figured I'd order them today and maybe a few of them will show up in my Sportlots Box before I ship in a week or so. I finished off the Sox cards for 2018 so next week I'll start on 2017. I also completed 2 years on Konerko cards so I'm through 2005 now. His will slow down the further I get but he played for another 10 years so I still have aways to go. It was my biggest Sportlots purchase to date, I figured I worked 60 hours last week, that I could afford to spend a little more. Still $.50 or less cards, just more cards. I want to say I purchased 70 something cards just today.

After all the downloading pictures this morning, the great random in the internet selected a player collection with only 1 card and technically, it's not even a card.

I picked up this Topps Sticker on Sportlots. I was picking up White Sox needs but since he's a player collection, he gets his own post. I don't know if I had more and they were some of the lost scans or not but I don't think so. I just haven't concentrated on my Tier 2 PC's yet. I will once I'm done with Tier 1 players. This stickers gives me 105 cards of Moncada.

PK in Blue and Red

My random came up with a big post for today. I told you I was working through my player collections. I started with my Tier 1 collections. This is the guy I'm currently on and I have picked up a ton of cards but I'm only getting through a year or 2 at a time because I pick up so many that I reach my weekly budget. I'm ok with that because he is my favorite player.

I would say Dodgers fans would appreciate this post as most of it is, but then again, it may be a reminder of what could have been.

First we'll start with some minor league cards. It's so weird to see him in Catcher gear.

Here we start the Dodgers portion. I grabbed these couple of horizonal cards.

Like I said, a lot of Dodgers. I started with his first year and have been getting later. Which is why you see so many Dodgers as that was the first team he was with.

Next up, I managed to get a couple showing his short stint with the Reds. These 2 only give me 12 of Konerko with the Reds. I was thinking that he didn't have many but according to TCDB, he has 212 cards with the Reds. Also, 180 of those are different Topps Tek patterns so really, he doesn't have many with the Reds.

All of the above came from my Sportlots purchases. I want to say I just finished picking up 2003 cards so next week, when I order a shipment, it'll have a bunch more White Sox cards but don't worry, I have some of those to show as well.

I did get some cards from other places than Sportlots. I won a contest (randomly, I didn't do anything but comment) over at Collecting Cutch, I won a card (It'll get shown later), and he added some Sox and non-Sox PC's to the package as well. He sent a few of these Sega Gen cards, I don't think I had any of these, not even sure where they come from, but I have some now. Starting with this Konerko.

Of course, you know 2x3 Heroes is gonna share some Paulie's. Hey, you get to see another Dodger. I like the shinyness of the bottom left card (Blue Refractor numbered to /150). Jeff also sent 2 of those medallions, this one is obviously Konerko and the other is another player PC so you'll see that one later.

All of the above cards got me all the way up to 530 cards.

That's one thing I like about Jeff's packages, he lives closer to Chicago than I do so he gets some of these oddball, more local stuff and he's always willing to share. The best part of that huge package he sent me though, was this.

I would assume it was a stadium giveaway but I honestly don't know. What I do know is that it was perfect timing as I just got my own card room and am now looking for small pieces for the shelving and walls and this fits perfectly on the shelf. It came in the box and the side of it has the World Series trophy so I'm using it as part of the decor right now as well.

I love all the Konerko cards, as I stated before, he is my favorite player, but I really love that replica statue. I also love the fact that a fellow Sox fan/blogger gave it up out of the kindness of his own heart. You might even say I love Jeff. I just won't tell you if I'm talking about him or myself.
