Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

South Bend freebies

About a month ago (that's how far behind I am), we did the South Bend show. I know it's been a month because tomorrow is the next South Bend show and it's the first Saturday of each month. The good news for my pocket book was I didn't buy anything, but I did still come home with some cards.

Joe, who's one of the dealers we set up with, usually tries to get close to us so we can watch each others tables. He came in with a 600 count box of White Sox cards. He said I could have them, he didn't want any of them back so I went through them. I only needed 33 of the cards. Most of the stuff was commons so I had a lot of it which he said I probably would. I'm only going to show a few of those since most weren't anything special.

These 4 are all guys that I don't PC but I have 50+ cards of their Sox cards so I scanned them.

  • Nick Madrigal (62 cards)
  • Carlos Rodon (87 cards)
  • Frank Thomas (1034 cards)

I put Gavin on here just because he's one of the few current players that I like. He's got 49 cards so he's almost up in the above scan. I've been thinking about adding him to my PC but I've just never took the time to do so.

These 2 are PC guys though. That's a 1st Edition of Vaughn and just a plain old Stadium Club of Eloy. I would have guessed that I already had that but apparently not. That is my 112th card of Vaughn.

Fred, who I've shown cards of here that he gives me (who also works with me) came to the show and he usually picks me up a few things while he shops around so he came by at the end of the show and gave me a few cards as well.

He found this blue scope of Cesar Ruiz. It must have been hard for him to give this up being as he is a Saints fan but on the other hand, he's also a Notre Dame fan so maybe it was easier since he's wearing the Maize and Blue. This is my 15th card of Cesar.

Back to the Sox cards. Another Eloy, a short printed Big League which gives me 234th of him and a X-Fractor of Robert which is my 226th of him. Eloy just got back from injury and Robert is still out.

Another PK I didn't have as well sums up the cards he gave me. I have a bunch of him so I love getting ones I don't have already. This High Tek set has a bunch of parallels and I have the base and this 1 so there's more to go after. This card gives me 774 cards of PK.

Buchanan pick-ups

A couple of weeks ago, we did a show with T-Dog Breaks hosting in Buchanan, MI. It was his first show and we committed because we like him and his family. It ended up being a pretty good show and he's already scheduled his next show with an autograph guest - Ron Kittle. Sign me up!

I flipped through when I saw some 2024 parallels which is where I got the Holiday Vaughn and the rainbow foil Robert. I happened across the Buehrle prizm which I love and the Robert insert and the Abbott is the refractor. These 5 were in $1 box but I only paid $3. I pulled out my wallet and counted my ones and I only had $3 so he said he'd take that. I had more cash, that was just my ones but he said he was cool with it.

I decided to search the hosts tables when I saw he had a .50 cent box, mainly because I knew he was a breaker so I figured he might have some decent stuff in there and I was not disappointed with the above.

And the below.

I was shocked to see these cards. I definitely picked them up when I ran across them in that $.50 box.

Kevin also bought out a box of cards from another dealer and I grabbed all of these out that so these were free to me. Some former Wolverines, some White Sox and even a shiny Maize and Blue card.

This just happened to be sitting on one of the boxes on one of the dealers next to us who we are friends with, so I grabbed it. It's only my 2nd from that set, both Wolverines.

Next up is my real find. I saw it early on at the show but I wasn't sure I wanted to drop the money on it. So I told myself if it was still there at the end of the show, then I would pick it up. I kept finding myself looking over at the table to see if it was still there. Finally I was like, screw that, you obviously want it, go get it.

I was really awkward walking back to my table. It's been years since I walked around with a liquor bottle. I love this and it looks great up on my shelf. He had another once that I picked up from my brother as well. Although, he'll probably drink his.

A break for Sox

I got some time finally. There's been a lot of Birthday's lately and the days there isn't, I wasn't feeling it. I'm in a little better mood now since I have the next 3 days off work. The card show on Saturday got cancelled as well so I get 3 days at home, sleeping in. I did hit my LCS yesterday. I had to go to conference in town and it finished at 3 instead of my usual getting off work at 4:30. It was also right up the road from the LCS. I dropped off the stuff I sorted last week and since I had 4 days off, I went ahead and grabbed 4 3 row boxes of cards to sort so that's what I'll probably be doing for those 3 days. After I sleep in that is. I did pick up 1 card at the LCS so I'll get that logged and scanned tomorrow. Since I don't have it ready, you'll get another random post but this is a team post. Although they don't play much like a team which should tell you which team since I follow 2 and they are both at the complete opposites of the spectrum.

Fred at work gave these to me. I know some of them he picked up in a quarter box at the Shipshewana show. Some of the others he brought to me at work. I love the look of the cracked ice so you know I love the Sapphire set.

I got these from sorting packs. The flagship is series 2 as I've already completed series 1. The 4 Prizm are my first from the 2023 set.

All of these last 3 scans are list players that I sorted for the LCS. Hall of Famers are automatically on the list so Frank Thomas and Tim Raines are in and Bo Jackson and Sammy Sosa are popular players so they are on it.

The real announcement is with the addition of those 13 cards of Frank Thomas (and the one further above) I have officially hit 1000 cards of him. It's my first player to 1000 and it's not even a PC of mine, he just has that many White Sox cards. My official total right now is 1003.

These 6 cards are from Kevin. The top 4 came from a box he bought at the Mishawaka show, I skimmed through it and pulled some cards for myself. The bottom 2 are from his sorting of the LCS stuff.

Do you remember the Vintage stuff I picked up at the Plymouth show? I've already shown some of it, this was also on his table so I picked it up as well. I liked Madrigal before we sent him off to the Cubs plus it's a rookie auto and as I mentioned before, I like the Sapphire set.

I'll be back tomorrow with another birthday post before I finally get some time to post other stuff.

Rare pick-ups for me

I've been sitting around all day, not doing anything and even had the though, I should put out a post while I have time and I never did. Here it is, 10:30 pm and I just remember, oh yeah, I never put out a post. I'm a slacker.

The random decided to stick with the last posts theme of the team collection.

A whole lot of modern cards up there that I needed. I really like the Crochet's because when he comes back from his Tommy John surgery, I think he's going to be a big part of the bullpen next year. These all came from the cards that I was sorting for Sluggo.

These 2 scans come from Fred at work. I like the Gavin Sheets up there because like Crochet, I think he could help us win. I liked him in the little he played last year. I also like that 1992 Kellogg's team decal sticker page on the right side. I thought it was older than that when I got it but it's a 1992. I took it out of the package that carried it through the Frosted Flakes. A couple cards of our former first baseman as well, don't even get me started on that.

I also went through the $3/each or 4 for $10 box at my LCS. I picked up some PC players as well as some cards for the shop, I think it ended up being 16 cards total but these 5 were the only non player PC White Sox cards. A couple of Zack Collins, mainly because they are harder to find (Tek & a color parallel #'d /50), the Mendick because he's been decent for us. The Mags just because I haven't added any relics of his in awhile and the Stiever because it's a red parallel of Stadium Club, also numbered to /50. I also realized as I was typing this paragraph that 4 of those 5 don't play for us anymore. I think Stiever is still there.

I need to do that every so often, just hit the 4 for $10 boxes and grab some autos and relics.
