Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Vintage and another Frank

It was a decent Thursday in the household mailbox, well, for me anyways. The bills go to my wife. I got 3 envelopes today with 4 cards total, technically, 10 cards but I only needed 4. 3 of them go to the Vintage collection but only 1 of those is not a player collection card as well.

I picked up this Mattingly for the Vintage collection for $.25/shipped. This gives me 281 cards from that set which is my 12th closest to being finished at 42% completed.

I picked up this Frank Thomas card from 2001 for $.25/shipped as well. Frank Thomas is easily my highest number of player cards for a non player collection player. Mainly due to all of those 90's inserts. He is the 4th highest player for all my collections but the top 3 are player collections and he's only 1 card away from taking 3rd place and I'm pretty sure I have a ton more cards of his that I haven't logged yet.

This Steve Carlton card came in a lot of 6 of his cards, I only needed 2 of them but I won the bid at $.55/shipped. The 2nd card I needed was in pretty rough shape (I didn't notice it when I bid) and while I usually don't concern myself with condition, it was a 1984 Fleer card which I figure would be easy enough to pick up so I didn't keep it. This card hits the century mark for that player collection and 135 cards for the 1983 Topps set.

Last but not least, I picked up this Gary Carter for $.43/shipped. Carter has the collection next highest from Steve Carlton at 116 cards. It's only my 68th card from the 1983 fleer set though.

A yellow card?

Just a quick post, while it's a great player and a former Wolverine, it's also not a very exciting card, or set for that matter. I know there are some that give this set love, but I'm not one of them.

I was actually kind of shocked I didn't have it already but I do now and that's what counts. I picked it up for $.40/shipped.

This Weeks Cards

This will be another catch up post. I've been fighting a cold/flu something all week and haven't taken the time to post. I've still been working so by the time I get home, I was exhausted. I'm still fighting it today but since I have no work, I've got more time to do it.

I won this for a whopping $.82/shipped. I only put a buck on it, didn't really expect to win it.

Everything else I won goes to tier 3 player collections.

I picked up this Gary Carter for $.35/shipped. It's not a very good scan but I do enjoy seeing the old Expos jerseys.

I also picked up this Schmidt for $.33/shipped. It came from the same seller as the following card.

Now this card reminds me of my childhood cards. I remember picking up this set. I used to love those 30 something card sets sold in small boxes. Kmart is the first thing I think of when I see them. I grabbed this card for $.35/shipped as well.

Relic Saturday

I actually got these cards yesterday, but I'm a slacker. I already looked on the USPS site and I'm not getting any more cards today so we'll just pretend they are from today. By the way, if you haven't downloaded the USPS app (or use the website) and checked out the Informed Delivery section, you're missing out. It tells you what will be in your mailbox today (with photos).

This comes from 2013 Topps and is actually a mini but it's just a touch smaller than your normal card. I like the no borders look. I picked this up for the White Sox collection for $2.25/shipped.

I also picked up this AJ for $1.04/shipped. I actually already have it but I keep dupes of relic/autos. I just don't bid on them as high if I already have it. Really though, for a buck, could I really turn it down?

Catch Up Post

I've got some catching up to do. I bought a couple more cards over the weekend and then I got cards in the mail yesterday and today. This would be easier to keep up with if I would quit taking naps after work.

Sunday, my daughter took my debit card to go to Walmart to pick up something for us (I don't remember what now) so I told her to grab a couple more packs of 2019 Topps. Why the hell not? It was pretty much the same as the other couple, base and inserts. I needed 57 of the 68 cards, the rest were dupes. Also as what happened with the first couple packs, I got 2 White Sox cards.

Our super phenom rookie pitcher who's recovering from Tommy John surgery and our current starting shortstop.

Monday, I got 1 envelope but it had a bunch of cards in it

These 6 cards are all from 2013 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks & Prospects. How much did I pay? Nada. They came with the following cards that I won. Now, I know sometimes you get freebies thrown in but those are some nice freebies. So nice, that I went to the sellers store and checked to see if he sold these to someone else and mixed up and sent them with my purchase but I didn't see them anywhere. I'll take them. They came with these cards.

These 2 cards of the former Knick now, Tim Hardaway Jr, came in a lot of 2, that I won for $2.25/shipped. So under $1.25 each plus all the freebies. Great purchase in my eyes.

Then today, I got 2 envelopes.

I got these 3 cards for $.06/each/shipped. Apparently the seller was getting rid of some Orioles cards. I also won a Ripken card but when I went to log it in, I already had it marked. Oops, guess I'm out the quarter it cost.

Last but not least, I got this card which is the start of the Moritz Wagner collection. I've bid on a bunch of his auto's but this was the first relic I saw, and won. I picked it up for $1.99/shipped.

2019 Topps

I didn't get any mail today but I did get some cards. Since I started the baseball card collection or in other words, cards not in my other collections, I figured I'd pick up some packs here and there. I haven't picked any up in a few years because I only spent money on cards for my collections, but now all those cards in the pack will go to a collection. I'm not going to buy a bunch or anything but I may pick up at least a pack from most releases and as you all know, the first release is up, 2019 Topps.

I went to Walmart after work yesterday and had planned on picking up a blaster but they were pretty much out of everything. All they had were the 16 card packs and while I don't normally grab packs from a retail outlet like that because of pack searchers, I was already excited about grabbing some cards so I grabbed 5 of those packs.

I won't go through a boring post of everything I got, I did get them logged into the Trading Card Database so if you have the need to see everything I got, you can go there. I will show you the cards I got for all my other collections, which is only one collection, the White Sox collection.

This would be the first White Sox card I pulled for 2019. It was in the first pack so I thought maybe I'd get a few since I started out so well.

Nope, I only got the 2 and this card came in the last of the 5 packs.

It was fun opening packs again, I actually opened them in the parking lot because I was waiting on my groceries to get put in my car. I flew through them and then went through them slower once I got home.

I didn't get any short prints, variations are anything special. Base cards and inserts. It wasn't a terrible start to the 2019 card year, I did get 2 Sox cards.

Yaz Thursday

I've been debating on raising my high bid on player collection cards because I don't really win them very often. I originally started the quarter bid because I was broke. I'm doing all right now but I kind of felt like picking them up cheap was my niche. I'll leave some of the other collections at a quarter but only raising the player collection bids. I haven't decided yet.

Only one card today but it's a player collection that I rarely win cards for, as a matter of fact, this is the 2nd one this year which doubles up how many I won last year.

I picked up this Carl Yastrzemski for $.25/shipped. Which I think is a great price for this Hall of Famer, it would have been better if it was a card during his playing days but I'd be surprised if I could win one of those at a quarter.

A couple on the cheap

I got a couple cards today from the same seller. He lists all kinds of card at a penny and now that I'm doing the baseball collection, which is essentially any card that doesn't go to my other collections and I find for under a dime, I bid on a ton of his cards. I probably only win 5% of them though but I'm okay with that.

We'll start with this 1994 Fleer Alfredo Griffin. When I think of Griffin, I think of him with Oakland and he only played 3 years with them out of his 18 year career. I picked this up for $.06/shipped. I don't remember ever seeing this card before and I'm fairly familiar with the set. It's funny how some cards you just blank on.

I also picked up this card of the Hawk from 1989 Topps. I watched a ton of Cubs games growing up because they were always on WGN and most of the neighborhood were Cubs fans. I picked this card up for $.10/shipped. I definitely remember this card, I had a crap load of 1989 Topps back when I collected as a kid.

A White Sox day

One of these cards came in yesterday and I would tell you my excuse for not posting it, except I don't really have one. I think I just totally spaced posting it. Luckily I don't put cards away until after I get them posted and logged so I saw it still sitting there when I opened the cards from today.

We'll start with yesterday's card. A Frank Thomas card for $.25/shipped, yes please. I have a ton of cards of the Big Hurt and he's not even a player collection. I'm pretty sure, minus my player collections that I have more of him than anybody else. Mainly because of all the 90's inserts that were going on. I'm not sure what's going on with that photo, I know Frank is a big guy but he looks like his suit is 3 sizes to big, it's almost cartoonish.

These 3 all came from the same seller. The top 2 from 2005 Chrome Update for $.25/each/shipped and the Semien from 2014 Bowman for $.16/shipped. I don't remember the top 2 players but I do Semien, I don't know where he is now but I'm pretty sure we shipped him off to Oakland in a trade but I am old, so the memory does fail me.

It's been a slow week over here, I've got some Ebay winnings coming but with the mail shut down for a couple of days and such, I just haven't gotten much in the mail so I figured I'd take the time for a random post. I'm also thinking if I ever get finished putting my cards on the Trading Card Database, I believe they have a random button and these posts might get easier.

It was just coincidence that Ty Law came up a day after he was announced as part of the 2019 Hall of Fame class, a pretty cool coincidence, but still a coincidence.

I got to plug 2 guys that send me cards even when they know I have no cards to send back, and I even got to plug both of Dennis' blogs. In also doing this post, I decided to go back and do my random card posts on Twitter, when I remember that is.
