Breakfast at Tiffany's

Well the Sox are still a couple games over .500, that's a shocker with the way we've played this year so we went ahead and didn't do anything at the trade deadline (we got one left reliever from the other Sox). Doesn't sound right but I'm not a GM so what do I know.

In Michigan news, I saw Tommy Henry got his debut for the DBacks which in my mind means maybe they'll make more cards of him. I'm all for more cards.

Today's post, however, doesn't have anything to do with either team which narrows down who it is. If I said it was only one of two Tier 1 collection players to not have played either at Michigan or the White Sox, would you figure it out?

As you can see, the card on the top right is O-Pee-Chee but what you can't tell is the other 3 cards are all Tiffany. It's always good to add Dravecky cards because he doesn't have many and I have all the easy stuff, now I'm picking up oddballs and parallels such as the above. These 4 give me 64 of 106 which is 60% of all his cards.

Donruss mistakes

I went over to my cousin's to work on pricing cards since we're getting ready to set up at a show in about a month from now. We're both pretty particular about how cards are presented at shows. We won't even stop at a table if there isn't prices so we make sure everything we have for sale is priced. Today we worked on dollar and up cards. We have a $1 box, $2 box, $3 box, $5 box and an $8 and up. Our showcases showed up in the mail today as well so one less thing to worry about. He's done a ton of shows, this will be my first so I'm a little nervous about it. I'll be heading over tomorrow for some more. We have most of baseball and football done so we'll probably work on basketball tomorrow.

Today, you get a tier 1 player that we haven't seen since December of last year. It's also a player that I have over 50% of his cards that are listed on TCDB so it's always nice to add to it.

I actually have this card, sort of. This is the error version and I already had the corrected. They mispelled the artists name on the back. It's not quite as annoying as all the trademark differences on the late 80's, early 90's stuff. I am collecting those versions as well but once I have one of them, I don't seek out the others but if I run across it, I'll keep it. I picked this up going through Sluggo's junk wax. There were a few hundred cards that weren't junk wax mixed in.

It's MonDave

Don't ask about the title, it gets hard to be creative all the time. It's Monday and the post is about Dave. Yeah, I said it wasn't that creative.

I was going to do a quick post before bed, but this guy came up. He's a Tier 1 collection so I went through Sportlots and bought everything I didn't have that was under $.50.

That first card is the 125th Anniversary Parallel. I had never seen the bottom card before, it's from the 1993 UD All-Time Heroes set.

The top 2 are Fleer Glossy, the middle 2 are Topps Tiffany and the bottom 2 are both Mother's Cookies.

This whole pic are all stickers. I know it looks like a bunch of dupes but I picked up the base stickers and the O-Pee-Chee brand stickers and than the bottom stickers where there are 3, one is a hardback issue.

I actually scanned the backs just to so you can see that there is a difference. To be honest, I wasn't even aware that they had O-Pee-Chee stickers so it was all new to me.

These 18 cards/stickers put the Dravecky collection at 59 cards which is actually good for 64% of his cards. He only has 92 listed on TCDB.

Dravecky Day

Today you get another Tier 1 player collection but one that I have trouble finding new cards of just because he doesn't have a ton out there like a lot players now a days. I don't know a ton about him but he battled cancer and eventually had his arm amputated, as did my father, which is my connection to him.

They look like 84 Topps but they aren't, sorta. You will notice the Nestle logo on the top right hand corner of the cards. Obviously they were made by Topps for Nestle. The top card, the base, is my 3rd version of that card as I have the O-Pee-Chee as well. It's the 80's version of parallel sets. These 2 make 39 cards of Dravecky and according to TCDB, he only has 88. Most of those are oddball stuff those will be hard to find but there are a lot of Stickers and O-Pee-Chee's and such that I should try to locate.

Oddly enough, this post was randomed and while on his Wikipedia page, I noticed his birthday is on Valentines day, which is tomorrow, or technically, in less than 2 hours here. Those of you with significant others, consider that your reminder. If you needed that reminder, you might already be in trouble.

Sportlots - Tier 1 PC's - Dravecky

The wife made me go to Target today, it was supposed to be a drive up pick up but she text me at work to inform me she screwed it up and I had to go in. So you all know what that means. I bought a box of cards. I haven't logged them yet so you'll have to wait to see what I got, probably tomorrow.

Today we're going to look at another Tier 1 PC pick-up from Sportlots. It's Friday so I'm going to go and pick up some more cards today and I'll probably ship what I have in my box as we are getting into the end of the month so I'll have some cards to post next month. I'm still working out exactly how I'm going to do this with Sportlots but this seems to be working for now.

Just one card again today. I have trouble finding cards of him, partly because there isn't a ton like those players who played in the 90's. TCDB only has 88 cards listed of him and this card is my 37th. A lot of what's left are oddballs suck as this card. I don't remember this Fleer set, I had a bunch of them back in the day but this one is from 1988 and that's about when I stopped collecting.

The 5 Johnny Bench's push that collection over 50 cards to 52. Obviously, the last one is my favorite. I only got 2 of Dave Dravecky because I have most of the "junk wax" stuff and that's what the majority of his cards are. Those 2 do bump it up to 38 cards. Also, the 3 Mike Schmidt cards, I actually think I ordered more but they didn't ship them, I need to go back and look at my invoice. Those 3 put that collection at 80 cards.

Our first Dravecky card.  From another set I probably completed when I was a kid.  1987 was the last year I collected as a kid and I had a crap load of them.  Topps, Fleer and Donruss.  I did like how Fleer lumped all the cards from the same team together.  It made it easier to keep track of team sets.

COMC purchase #1–Dave Dravecky

I had some money burning a hole through my COMC account and decided to spend it.  The negative – I forgot to leave $3 to to pay for the shipping, so I had to add another $10 so I could ship them.  The positive – that gave me another $7 to spend.  I basically went through each player collection and picked up some cheap cards that I didn’t have.

Today, we will look at my Dave Dravecky Collection additions.  I don’t add to this very often because there isn’t a lot of his cards out there, and I’ve got most of the cheap ones.  Ebay sellers overcharge the hell out of his cards.  I just went to Ebay and searched his cards, cheapest including shipping. (1987 topps $.10 bid, $.75 shipping).  Everything else is over $1.20 or higher, including a 1986 Topps.  That’s just ridiculous.

Cheap ebay

Just a quick post on some of my recent ebay purchases.  We’ll start off with a few Michigan cards since I’m sitting here and watching them take on Iowa State.

The Ray Jackson auto I picked up for $2.49/shipped.  I usually try to keep the cheap ebay purchases around $2 but he was a fab fiver so I went a little over budget, but not much.  And now that I’m checking ebay for the prices spent, I can’t find the Biakabutuka card listed.  So I must have gotten that somewhere else.  I’ve said it before, I really need to stay more organized.  I get packages in the mail and get all excited and rip into them then have to think back to who sent what.  I bought some small sticky notes so hopefully I can remember to use those at least.

Brent Morel – 2011 Bowman Chrome rookie auto ($3.04/shipped)  Again, I paid a little more but I wanted the card.

Paul Konerko – 2010 Topps Attax code card ($.05/shipped).  Didn’t have one and it was only a nickel.

Also won this lot ($1.25/shipped), of course that was before I had received a bunch of Dravecky’s from Padrographs so most, if not all, weren’t needed anymore.  Oh well.

I’ve got one more trade post already typed out and some more to scan and type out, we’ll see if I get around to doing that today.  Not to mention, everything you’ve seen this week, I have yet to get into the binders.  Sorry about all the trade posts, but as you know, there isn’t much out there that interests me to buy some packs.  I’ve checked a few times but nothing called to me.  And I have yet to find any of the stickers around here.  They carry the NFL, but no MLB.  I’d like to get the Sox team of those, I might have to start looking around for a team set somewhere.

It’s just after halftime and we are up 13 so keep it going Michigan.  GO BLUE!!!!

Diamond Giveaway

Ordered a bunch of my cards from the Diamond Giveaway site a few weeks ago and they arrived last week.  I mainly ordered them because all the cards I was keeping were Sox cards and I got tired of denying all the trade requests.

First the player collection cards.  Of course, after I ordered these, the Dravecky’s came in trades.  Oh well.

I mainly got these because they were vintage Sox, but I selected Bill Melton because he does the pre and post game before Sox games so I actually knew who he was.

Lots more vintage.  I basically tried to flip whatever vintage I pulled for the same year except a Sox card.  I also got quite a few 90’s and 2000’s cards but figured you all didn’t need to see all those.  Vintage is always better.

These cards are pretty awesome.  I peeled the plastic off them because I’m keeping them for myself anyways, I want them to look their best.  I’ve read where a lot of you said they look even better in person and you all were right.  I really like these cards.  I was trying to get the other players, Rios, Sale and Quentin (how Konerko didn’t get a card is beyond me) but nobody would flip them for me and out of all the cards I pulled on the site, I only got 1 of these Diamond cut cards so nobody would flip me regular base cards for those.  Justin from “Justin’s World” and I were working on a trade and mentioned he had the Chris Sale card, so he took whatever cards I had left, which I think was 9 and sent me the Sale card.  I’ll scan it and show it when I get it shipped.  I appreciated that Justin.  I appreciate all my fellow trading partners.  My team and player collections have really taken off because of all of you.
