Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

YoYo after a win

I figured I should throw up a post since the Sox won their first playoff game (sorry Fuji.)  Giolito looked good (minus the 7th inning). He had a perfect game through 6 and the Sox hit 3 home runs, that was all they needed for the 4-1 victory.

To prove that I actually random each post. I still have a Tim Anderson post left and I believe he was 3-4 tonight but the random gave me this guy, who had an 0'fer.

We'll start off with the horizontals and they are all from the Big League set. You also see the (hopefully) 2020 MVP on the opposite end of that bottom card.

3 different A&G's as well as a couple of shiny cards. These 8 cards push the YoYo collection up over the century mark with 101.

I'm not complaining about his production tonight though. He's been battling injuries and he's still out there being a gamer. Maybe I'll get the Anderson post tomorrow after another win.

Cease and Desist

After looking so impressive most of the season, except the first week or so, the Sox looked like the young rookies they are for the last 8 games, going 1-7. Jumping from a possible 2 or 3 seed all the way down to a 7 seed. They clinched a playoff berth and than took a nosedive. The worst part is they lost home field for the first round and have to go to Oakland and the Sox have never played well on the west coast. I know what this team can do and they can beat anyone when they are on but I have very little confidence right now. I really hope they can get their crap together before Tuesday.

Some of that starts with today's player collection. He pitched well for a rookie but he hasn't looked nearly as good the last couple of starts.

I picked up these 3 cards of Dylan Cease on Sportlots last month. I paid a quarter for the Diamond King and $.18 for the other 2. These 3 cards give me 18 cards in the relatively new PC.

Blue is back! Almost.

Hey, you finally get a non White Sox post which is great because we've sucked ass this week. The great random in the laptop must sense my feelings so he's giving us a break on the Sox cards. We're also getting something that has been ramping up and getting ready to start. The last Michigan post were new player collections. These are the players I already had cards of.

Obviously I wasn't talking about Michigan baseball starting up so I'll get these out of the way first. These 2 give me 4 of James Bourque, sadly, 3 of those are different versions of this card. The other is an auto so there is that. I just checked TCDB and he basically has 2 pro cards. The auto that I have and this one, and 37 different versions of those 2 cards. These are the rainbow and gold version.

This is my 3rd card of Tommy Henry. The other 2 are his Bowman Draft cards so why not go forward with a minor league card from this year.

These 4 of Devin Bush give me 5 as I only had 1 other before. The top 2 obviously go with the Michigan collection as well. I thought I would be able to grab more of his but he had a pretty good rookie season so his cards have gone up.

Shea's cards, however, aren't too hard to pick up as he barely dipped into the pro pond and I don't believe he is even in it now. These 2 give me 6 of his cards. Not surprisingly, all his cards are in Michigan uniforms which is better for me but doesn't bode well for him.

I also grabbed 4 more of DPJ giving me 6 of his. All 6 are Michigan uniforms as well. Last I remember, he signed with Cleveland and as far as I know, he is still there.

So there's your break from Sox cards but don't worry I have plenty more to come. Especially when I get into the huge box of not only cards but other Sox items that Jeff (not me, 2x3 Heroes) sent me. I'm looking forward to getting more in depth with that box this weekend.

2020 Panini Sox

This is the last of the 2020 Sox team collections posts this month. Apparently the random wanted to knock them all out in fail swoop. I still have a bunch of player collection posts coming though so I'm far from finished for the month.

This will be a no logo post though.

Up above I grabbed 3 players of both the Prizm and the Select. The Abreu on the bottom is a little weird. The only white jersey like that is their 1983 copies and those have red and blue so I'm not sure why they took all the color out. Maybe it clashed with the background. I'm nowhere close on those team sets. The Select shown are the only ones I have from that set. I have 4 cards of Keuchel, 6 cards of Grandal, and 118 of Abreu (he might have been here longer.) I paid $.18 for all of the above.

Next up, we have the Diamond Kings. I like that they brought back the Diamond Kings but I hate that they are pretty much the same every year. Not much difference at all. This is only my 4th of Mendick, my 16th of Collins, and 532 of the Big Hurt (again, he might have been here a little longer.) I picked these up at a quarter a piece.

2020 Topps Sox Needs

Wow! Didn't realize I hadn't posted in 5 days. See what happens when you go back to work. Stupid responsibilities.

Today's random came back with some more 2020 Sox. I seem to be on a team collection kick right now, I was on Sportlots last night and started purchasing 2019 Sox needs. I guess I'll just work down the years every week or two. I also made some purchases on baseballcardstore.ca, trying to complete another set for the Vintage collection. I also threw some 80's Sox needs on that order.

Today's post will be the Topps portion.

All those 2020 Topps are from Series II as I hadn't purchased any. I'm only the Luis Robert short (big surprise), minus all the short prints that is (all 8 of them). The short prints are ridiculous, there are 4 different ones just of Robert. I paid $.18 for each of the above.

In a familiar story, all of these Big League cards would complete the team set, except I need the Luis Robert. I also ran across the Orange version of Grandal for a quarter so I grabbed it. I paid $.18 each for the rest.

I picked up a couple of the Chrome versions as well. Being as Chrome is popular, these are the only 2 I have so a long way from that team collection. It does amaze me that I can pick up the Abreu on the cheap considering he is having a MVP season but he reminds me a lot like Konerko was to us. Very under rated for many years. I don't remember Konerko having a season like Abreu is now but still, same concept. He flies under the radar and they keep pitching to him. It works for us. I paid $.18 each for both of those.

I also paid $.18 for this Yasmani Grandal. I actually grabbed 6 from the Finest team set but the rest were in player collections so you'll see them later, and probably already saw a couple. I'm still 3 short of this team set. I'm sure you know who one of those are.

More 2020 Sox

Another day, another dollar. I had to go back to work today. Blah! I guess I have to work if I want to buy more cards.

Today's random came up with some 2020 White Sox pick-ups. I hate this set but I have to at least get the Sox cards. Bowman sucks. I'm not a prospector and I hate all the sub sets or whatever they call the Prospects, Chrome Prospects, Draft Picks and whatever else. Then they release Chrome that has all that crap too. I hate trying to figure everything out. Thankfully I can figure them out by filtering on TCDB by the card number so it doesn't take long anymore.

I picked up these 2 from the Bowman base set that would complete the team set if some guy named Luis Robert's cards were at ridiculous prices so that'll be a set I finish when these investor's quit buying stuff.I did buy 3 other cards but they go to their player collections so technically I bought 5 from the set. Both of these were $.18/each.

I picked up these 3 for the Chrome Prospects set. Sadly, these are the only 3 I have. One I could probably find fairly cheap but the other is that Robert guy again. I bought the above 3 for $.18, $.35 and $.40 (left to right).

So another White Sox post and still haven't completed a team set. These purchases didn't work out the way they were supposed to.

Wax Pack Freebies

I made it back from camping earlier today so I figured I'd shoot out a post. I normally take Monday off and stay another day but tomorrow is my postop and I'll go back to work on Tuesday.

A guy with an awesome name, Jeff, over at Wax Pack Wonders had a quiz that I bombed at, I only got 1 but I was one of the first few to comment and that's all I needed to do to get some cards. You picked 3 names from 3 different groups and he sent you cards. I want to say he sent 9 cards but I don't remember exactly how many. They were in a 9 pocket page so that's why I was thinking it was 9. These are the ones I needed.

Group 1 was HOF'ers

I picked Fisk as he's one of my PC's. He actually sent me 3 of his cards that I needed but I set the stack of cards on my scanner to scan them and apparently the cat decided to eat one. That's the first time she's ever eaten one so I guess I'll have to be more careful. These 2 give me 182 cards of Pudge. I just watched Tom Seaver's 300th win and Fisk was in the game so I got to see some action recently of him.

Next group was past stars. I had the choice of Mags or Ventura (Sosa was in there too but I figured I'd probably end up with Cubs cards and I try to forget that he played for the Sox). I chose Mags because I have a bunch of Ventura so I figured I'd have a better shot of getting needed cards that way but I guess I should have checked my numbers because I actually had more Mags than Ventura but it worked out because I still needed the above 2. They give me 150 of the former Sox slugger.

The last group was current or recent stars and I selected Jose Abreu who had been absolutely on fire right now. A possible shot at the MVP for this shortened season. One of many hot players on this team lately. This Abreu gives me 118 of his cards.

Thanks for the free cards Jeff, they were much appreciated.

New PC Month Continues

We seem to be on a roll with new PC posts so the great random in the sky decided to give you another. Only this time, it won't be of the White Sox variety.

Jeff Criswell pitched for the Wolverines up until this past year when he was drafted, he is in the minors with Oakland. According to TCDB, he only has 54 cards and it looks like the majority of those are from his stint with the USA team so it looks like his PC will start with those. The top 2 look like dupes, front and back, I purchased them both, one was listed as a retail version but they look exactly the same to me. They have them listed separately on TCDB as well so who knows. I paid $.18 for both of those and $.35 for the Longevity parallel.

Jake Cronenworth came out of the U of M in 2015 and has been working his way through the minors. He's now with the Padres and just won the Rookie of the Month for the NL last month so I'm guessing he'll start to get more cards produced other than the 37 that TCDB have him listed with. I paid $.30 for the black refractor and $.18 for the other 2.

Now on to the football start up collections. This is my first card of the former Wolverines safety. He gets decent playing time with Jacksonville as far as I can tell. I paid a little more than usual on this card. A penny more, it was $.19. He only has 14 cards on TCDB so I guess I'm lucky to find at least one.

I grabbed these photos from TCDB because apparently I forgot to scan them. My guess is I scanned them but they got deleted between transferring them from my phone to my laptop. Either way, these 3 cards are the first of his collection. It lists 137 cards on TCDB but it's basically 3 sets with a crap ton of parallels. I paid $.18 for the Donruss look a like, a quarter for the Score and $.50 for the Crown Royal, really like the die cut on those. His cards are all 2020's so maybe he'll get some more produced in the future.

Another new Sox PC

I'm getting a post out today and I'm going to try to bust out another one tomorrow because on Friday, I have to drive a little south of Cincinnati (4 hours from here) to pick up my wife and bring her home. Once I get her home, I have to pack my stuff in the car and drive out (an hour) to the campgrounds for our fall camping trip. So there won't be any posts coming this weekend.

You just got a new PC in the last post, well here's another. For the record, I decided to collect him before he did what he did last week.

I picked up all of these at Sportlots, most were $.18. I paid a quarter for one of the Finest and the blue Big League. The nice thing about starting a Gio collection is I already have a couple of autographs, unlike my other new collections where there prices have gone way up so it'll probably be awhile before I see any autos of them.

These 6 give me 45 cards of Lucas which I think is a nice start for a new PC.

Another New PC

I really love watching this current White Sox team, so much so that I started a few more player collections of some of my favorites. I've mentioned this before but I don't think I've actually said who the players were. This month they will be featured as player collections so you'll get to see who they are. Even some of the guys that I haven't actually started collections, I've taken their cards and put them in books in case I do decide to make player collections of them. Today is one of those players.

Sometimes I wonder just how many player collections I need. I mean technically, the newer players added for the most part have only played with the Sox so I already were buying their cards. Then I also realized, who cares, it's my collections. In reality, I just like to have all my cards of one player together and easily accessible.

How could I not have one of Eloy, the dude is just all smiles, all the time. Anytime they show him in the dugout and he's aware of it he puts on a big grin and says "Hi Mom!" One of the reasons I love this team is because they are always having fun, of course, that's easier to do when your winning.

All of the above 4 were purchased through Sportlots for $.18, except for the Finest which was a quarter. Have to pay extra for shiny apparently. These 4 give my newly anointed player collection of Eloy 47 cards.

2019 Sox needs

I'm back and with some new cards. I mentioned that I received a box from Sportlots and that I was off of work so I'd be able to work on it, what I didn't think about was that my son uses my card room desk to do his online schooling so I can't use my room during the day. He came out to do his lunch break and I snuck in there and grabbed the cards and my laptop and went downstairs to my old desk so I could get them all logged and then when he was done with school, I went back in there and scanned them and put them away in my books. So eventually I got it completed.

This month you'll see a lot of White Sox cards because for a couple of weeks, I went through TCDB and searched for Sox needs in each 2020 set and then 2019. I haven't gotten through all of 2019 yet but I did receive some of them and that's today's post.

The Abreu above is sadly the first card of the Bowman Chrome team set that I got because the Sox are hot and their prices are going up so that was the only one I grabbed cheap at $.18. The Thompson however, only leaves me needing 1 more of the Chrome Draft Picks. I picked it up for $.35

These 2 of the Bowman's Best brand also leave me with 1 more for that team set, I actually picked up 3 of the 4 but the 3rd is part of a player collection so you'll see that one at a later date. I picked up all 3 at a quarter each.

Speaking of Bowman, I also picked up this Bowman Heritage and once again, it leaves me with 1 more card for that team set. I picked this up for $.35 as well.

Next up, I hit the A&G lists. The top 3 cards put that team set at, you guessed it, 1 more card needed. I also bought 2 others for that set but they are player collections so you'll see them later. I did only pay $.18 each for all of them.

The bottom 3 are from the X set, to be honest, I assumed it was a parallel set but apparently not. I picked up 4 of those, but the 3 up there I grabbed at $.35 each and they leave me needing 3 more for that team set but 2 of those are short prints.

Last but not least, I picked up this Thomas Stadium Club card which leaves me needing 1 more card for the team set. Minus 2 variant short prints that is. I picked up this card for $.18. And just because I have so many for a non-player collection, this is my 532nd card of the Big Hurt.

That's all I had for this month's 2019 Sox cards. I know I'll have more next month because some of the cards I purchased just didn't make it to my Sportlots box by the time I had it shipped. It looks like I didn't complete any of the sets up there but technically I did, they just aren't all here yet.

Random Cards #74

I'm back. The surgery went well, I have no pain and haven't touched my pain meds. I do get constant bloody noses every time I stand up and it runs some when I have my head down as well so it makes it difficult to sit at my desk. Not to mention that my son uses my card room during the day (I'm usually at work) to do his online schooling. So today you get a post that I don't have to leave the recliner for.

Lots of stuff posted that I had no info on, only 3 Sox cards and a bonus autograph. Ended up with some pretty good cards up there I think. As you can see, I got rid of the baseball collection and added the new team card collections section to go with the new collection. I also added how many cards were in each collection under the titles, that was easier info to come up with since I changed my Google sheet over and have each collection in it's own tab.

I got a Sportlots package in yesterday but I haven't opened it yet. I'll probably do that today as I can do that from my recliner but I won't be able to scan or log them until I can put my head down a little and sit at my desk and scanner.
