Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Old Timers

This is the last day of June and I have 3 more posts, including today's, left of May's pickups. I don't think I'll make it but that's quite alright considering I got a package yesterday from Dennis with a bunch of cards I need to go through so I won't be ready to start posting June cards tomorrow anyways. Good thing it's a 3 day weekend. I still haven't opened my Sportlots package and have a few others to scan.

These 5 of Johnny Bench came in the first package from Sluggo. All modern day except that 1982 Drake's which is a pretty sweet card. I like the gold label but older cards tend to excite me more.

I also got this Bench in the 2nd package. I do the like the looks of this card, the die cut, the picture with the smokey background. These 6 cards put me over the century mark so "Here's Johnny" at 102 cards. Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I really like these cards of the Kid because they are all Expos cards. Those Expos colors go great with the color variations in the  Prizm cards. These all came from Sluggo as well and put his collection at 134 cards.

Last but not least, this Altuve. Kidding of course, these 2 Yaz's also came from Sluggo and puts his collection at 72 cards. The chrome is shinier than it looks here.

Some guy you may know

I've been busy for a few days so I'm behind for my June posts. They'll probably go into July and I haven't even got them ready yet. I've been slacking.

We all know this guy and I got a bunch of his so we'll just show the goods.

These 2 cards came from Sportlots, obviously, one is a variation of the other. I don't remember which and I'm not going to look right now. Ok, I went and looked and they are both variations. The left is a photo variation, the right is the Holo Blue version.

All of those above Ripken's came from my cousin Sluggo. A pretty good mixture of cards I think. All of these Ripken's give me 531 cards in his collection.

Lotsa Sox and others

I had a bunch of single players (and 1 vintage) so I combined them into 1 post, then decided to throw in another player who had a bunch of cards but all the players played with the Sox but other teams are represented in the post.

We'll start with the 1 lone vintage card. I picked this card up for a reason but you'll have to wait until next month before I get into it. I would have guessed I had this already but apparently not. I picked this up on Sportlots for $.18.

This lone card of the original Pudge gives me 164 cards of him. He's wearing the wrong colored Sox but what can you do. This card came from my cousin.

I picked up this gold version of a very young Mark Buehrle on Sportlots for $.39. Not to bad for a parallel 2nd year card. This card gave me 198 for his collection.

The last player is Paulie of whom I picked up more than a few cards of his. These all come from CardBarrel and with shipping were all $.22/each. First up are the Reds cards from his pre-White Sox days.

No, you're not looking at duplicates. The backs are different.

See, I wasn't lying.

I love the sleeveless uniforms on the Ultra. I'd like to see those come back if only occasionally. I find the Bowman hilarious because it shows Paulie running. 5 tool player, Konerko was not.

The 1987 Fleer look-a-like in the Platinum. As you can tell, I picked up quite a few Konerko cards CardBarrel. With these additions, the PK collection is up to 478 cards.

Make that 479 different cards as I also got this card from my cousin. I thought I already had this one as well but I have a future stock parallel. It's basically the same card except it says future stock in the upper right corner. I'm closing in on that 500 mark with my favorite all time player. He will be only my 3rd player with over 500 cards. The others are Ripken and Frank Thomas.

So close

I occasionally go to TCDB just to see what sets in my vintage collection that I'm close to completing and then see what they have to see how close I can get. Today's post was one of those purchases.

I was pretty close to finishing the 1985 Fleer set so I grabbed all of these to get me so much closer. After adding these 12 cards, it only leaves me missing 11 to finish the set. Most of those names are more than my usual $.50 but I'm sure I'll pick them up sooner rather than later.

Barry Monday

I'm back from the annual Father's Day camping trip, just in time to go back to work tomorrow. Ugghh!

Had a good time, basically sat around and relaxed. It was hot AF on Saturday but yesterday and today were pretty good. A little humid but the temps were down.

Got back a little before noon so I told myself I had plenty of time to drop out a post and get back into the swing of things.

Today's random puts this at a fairly quick post, he is a former Wolverine but most of us remember him from his MLB days.

All 4 of these came from my cousin in one of his packages. I really thought I had the 1989 Fleer but apparently not. The Stadium Club looked familiar as well but I guess not there either. The Panini is the red version and the fake 1987 is from 2017. These 4 cards give me 213 of the Hall of Famer.

More White Sox

I've been slacking on my posting. I keep falling asleep fairly early, I'm too old for 10 hour days. This will be my last post until next week as this is our annual Father's Day camping trip.

I read today where they may have a season yet. I'm sure I'll read tomorrow where there's no chance. I'm not even sure we should bother with one at this point. Don't get me wrong, I want to watch some baseball, but it seems kind of pointless now. We'll see what happens.

Today's post are even more White Sox cards so we'll just get to it.

We'll start off with some of Fulmer, he hasn't really grown on me yet, he's been pretty inconsistent. These 3 cards make 28 of his.

A few more odds and ends. You'll see the Dunning again later.

Last but not least, a bunch of Gypsy Queen. Up until the last couple of months, I was way behind on the last few years of GQ but I've been picking them up a lot lately. These 4 base leave me one short of the complete team set, minus the 3 SP's.

All the above cards came from my cousin's packages to me.

These 6 came from Sportlots, all 6 were under $.50, most were only $.18. All newer cards, if I'm not looking for something in particular, I look for the 2020 cards when I start shopping on Sportlots.

Also nabbed these 2 cards from Brian over at Highly Subjective and Completely Arbituary on his Free Card Fridays. They were 2 different Fridays so they were separate packages. The Frank Thomas is an odd looking card and the Dunning is the yellow border parallel. Thanks to Brian and all you others doing the free card posts. I'm generally to late to get in on most.

That's all for today, hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm looking forward to kicking back and doing nothing for 3 days.

Random Cards #72

It's a Sunday, why not a random card post? I've been working 6 days a week, 10 hour days so I haven't had much time to work on my cards. Some days it's all I can do to get a post out but I know as soon as I start saying I'll post tomorrow, I'll keep saying it and next thing you know, it'll be months without a post. I haven't missed a month without a post since December of 2018 and since then I've only had 2 months with less than double digits that month. So while my post aren't exactly exciting or informational, they keep me going and gives me something else to do that's card related and let's face it, right now, with no baseball on, this is all we have that's baseball related.

Newer Guys

Just a quick post today as they are running us ragged at work. Next weekend is our family camping trip, I'm looking forward to it just to get away from work for 3 days.

I'm not sure how I feel about baseball coming back this year at this point. I really, really want to watch some live baseball, especially with all of our young talent. I was really looking forward to watching the Sox this year.

The top 2 Giolito's came from my cousin's packages in May. 1 in each of them. The last 2 came from Sportlots for $.42 and $.18. There's a lot of Gypsy Queen up there. The Donruss is the Pink Holo Foil. These 4 give me 39 cards of Lucas.

I also added 2 more of Moncada as well. Both from Sluggo and again, 1 in each package of May. He's the guy I really wanted to see this year, I mainly wanted to see if last year was a fluke. I don't think it was, but I wanted to see to make sure. These 2 cards give me 93 of YoYo, closing in on that century mark.

A couple of Sox

This post will have a lot of cards in it. A lot of White Sox cards. My cousin sent me 2 packages last month. These are the Sox cards from the second package that came towards the end of the month.

Those are all the cards from 2016. He sent me a bunch of the Holiday set but I already had a few. The only one I need now is the Abreu, to bad that Frazier don't count since Abreu is on it.

More Frazier and Abreu and some guys you don't see much on Sox cards. I'll definitely take the Zach Putnam as he is a former Wolverine. I should look and see who has played for Michigan and the Sox. Off the top of my head, I already collect Jim Abbott and Chris Getz. I know of Putnam and Clayton Richard as well. There's probably others, probably others I know but can't think of right now. One of these days I should do a list. I'm not sure where I can find something like that but I'll figure it out.

These are all from 2017. Those 4 Topps (Holland is from Update) finish off that team set except for the 2 SP's of Sale and Abreu. Speaking of Abreu, those couple of cards up there make 107 of his in my Sox collection.

These 4 are from 2018. Decent shot of Saladino's mustache.

A couple more of Vaughn who is supposed to be a big deal, my cousin has sent me most of the cards I have of him, these 2 give me 13 total. The Frank Thomas puts his cards at 528.

Last but not least, the 2020. He sent me a bunch of the Gypsy Queen as well but I had bought some of the Sox already but I needed all of those.
