Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Back from AA

I went to the Big House in Ann Arbor today but I'm not going to talk about that mess. I don't want to relive that embarrassment. I did come home to one more envelope from an Ebay seller, I have one more to go but it's overdue so we'll see what happens there. I just got a refund from another one that never shipped. This current guy has some feedback that says he's slow to ship so that's what I'm hoping.

I got 2 cards from this seller.

Another Big Hurt in the collection, this is my 431st card of his and I grabbed this one for $.25/shipped. Frank is my 3rd highest amount of card per players but he's not a player collection like my top 2. At the rate I pick his up, I wouldn't  be surprised if he passes the top 2 sometime next year.

I also picked up another Michael Kopech card. His amount of cards keep moving on up, it's now at 27 cards. I picked this up for $.36/shipped. Have to get them all before he comes back from his Tommy John and people outside of Chicago figure out who he is. At least, who I'm hoping he will be.

I ordered my first stuff off Sportslots. So far, I've been finding sellers who offer free shipping to the Sportslots Box and go through each of my player collections and select the cheapest and oldest card I don't have. I select 3 for each collection until I have a total around $5 and then pay and have it shipped to the box. I'll stick with $5 a week for now and I haven't decided when I'm going to ship them to myself. I haven't found a way to save any sellers yet so I might just have to make a bookmark of each sellers page. I also haven't figured out if there is a way to search by cards by team because when I put a team name in the search bar, all I get are the actual team cards and not individual cards from each team.

3 Michigan Men

I got a couple more envelopes today with 4 cards, although 1 of them doesn't fit into any other of my collections. I purchased 1 in a lot of 2 but I only needed the 1. All 3 of the remaining cards are all football and all former Wolverines but only 1 actually goes in the Michigan Collection.

It's fitting that I get a Taylor Lewan card considering he's been hanging over my desk at work all this month, on my Michigan calendar. I've been telling everyone a story I have with him. They used to do a fan appreciation day on a Saturday before the season and you could get autographs. The players would sit behind the concession stands and you can walk up and get autos. My daughter and I were next in line for his autograph when he told the person in front of me "just a second" and he got up and came out and hugged someone behind us. That's not the story I tell though. I'm 6'3" and 280 lbs. and when he walked past me he was enormous. He towered over me. I've since looked at his height (6'7" and 309 lbs.) but before then, I never expected some of those players to be that huge. Anyways, this is the card I picked up in a 2 card lot with another Tennessee Titan player. I only paid $.19/shipped for them and it's my 19th card of his.

I picked this card up of Shoelace from the same seller as above. It's my 48th card of Denard and I grabbed it for $.24/shipped.

I also picked up my 3rd David Long card. I always have to be careful bidding on his cards because there is another player with the same name that came out of college and went to the pros in the same draft. It makes it easier when he's pictured in the maize and blue. I got this autograph for $2.41/shipped.

A Penny for your Aparicio

Back with another card. I was originally outbid on this, which I expected but then I was added back as the high bidder and ended up winning it. At the cost I won it, I'm not sure how it happened but I'll take it.

This is a 1981 TCMA, I thought I had it before I bid so I checked and apparently there was 2 variations of this card, I had the other one. Now I have both. This is my 83rd card of Aparicio and only the 1st I've picked up this year. How much money did this card set me back, you ask? $.01/shipped. Yep, a penny.

Lotsa Sox

Hey, I finally got another envelope. I actually got a box of stuff yesterday from my cousin but he sends me whatever Sox stuff he finds so I have to filter through it and see what all I need so it'll be a bit before you see that. Before we get going today, I'll give you an update on my Ebay purchases (read last couple of posts if you aren't in the know). It's a nice, easy update.

As soon as I get my past winnings in the mail, I'll be done with the site. The card I couldn't pay for, got cancelled by the seller. He never responded to my messages so as far as I know, he just thinks I'm a dick that wouldn't pay the $.27.

As I said before though, I did get one of those past winnings in the mail tonight. 1 envelope with 7 cards in it that is.

Somebody posted a bunch of 83 fleer so I bid on all the Sox cards that I needed. I won all these for $1/shipped once tax was paid. It broke down to 4 cards at $.06, 2 cards at $.22 and one at a quarter. Sadly, it doesn't even put me at half for the team set. I know all the players except that Ernesto guy, not sure I've seen him before.

I have 6 more envelopes coming from Ebay, although one is way overdue so we'll see if I even get that one.

5 card start of the week

Some things change, some don't. I got some more cards in the mail today, 5 to be exact and I'm also on day 7 of not being able to pay for a card I won. Ebay won't help, they just ignore my tweets now and I'm done talking to them on the phone, because they don't actually listen to me. I have a little less than 4 days before all my bids are done then I'm out, they won't get another dime from me. I'm loyal to those that are loyal to me. That goes for businesses too. I used to go to a certain gas station and only that gas station until they tried to run my card for $100 and denied my $20 of gas. I haven't been back since because I think $100 is a tad ridiculous. I started going to a different gas station, they had a rewards card where I earned money off my gas. I'd save it up and then get a car wash on the day I turned it in so my savings pretty much covered the car wash. They no longer do the rewards program. I don't go there anymore. Well, I still do on occasion, I understand their decision but I don't go out of my way to use them like I used to.

I'm loyal to a fault, you screw with that, I'm out. Ebay has pretty much ignored my issues. I may not spend high dollar but I do buy quite a bit of stuff. They won't miss my money, and I won't miss dealing with their crap.

I'm looking at Sportslots once my bids are up. I've been looking around it some, trying to figure out the shipping, reading reviews, ect. I'm pretty sure I'll go with them considering Dennis purchases there all the time so they can't be that bad.

Until then, you still get to see the last of my Ebay purchases. Like the following 5 cards that I got from 2 sellers. The following card came in one envelope and the final 4 in the other.

I've probably skipped past this card a bunch of times thinking I had it but I actually took the time to see if I did, I didn't. I picked it up for $.54/shipped which is a little steep for a 87 Donruss but oh well. I guess I can say it's a quarter for each collection since it goes in the Vintage collection as well. Speaking of, it is my 282nd card from 1987 Donruss set and my 132nd of Schmidt.

I picked up these 3 for the White Sox collection. Technically, I picked up another Giolito as well but it was the same card I showed in the last post, apparently I won 2 of them.

It is my 11th card of Wilhelm ($.45/shipped), 22nd of Fulmer ($.37/shipped), my 3rd of Alonso and my 53rd of Moncada ($.49/shipped). The following card also came from the same seller.

I also picked up my 91st card of Bench. It comes from the same Archives set (2018) as the Wilhelm and Moncada. I picked it up for $.45/shipped.

Future Cy Young with Hart

If you read my last post, you know I had trouble making a payment on Ebay. Well I finally got that payment to go through and now another card is doing it. I've spent half an hour on the phone with Ebay for them to say it's Paypal's issue. I've chatted with Paypal and they say it's Ebay's issue. So for now my plan is to quit using Ebay when my bids are done. I tweeted this out yesterday.

Ebay responded with a question that I've already answered for them 3 times. I've told them before that their site isn't connecting with Paypal correctly because it doesn't give me any other options other than using my bank account. I have a credit card attached and I had my wife send me enough money to pay it so I have a balance as well but none of them show up. Just my bank account. Seems pretty simple to me that it is something between the sites but I'm just a customer, I don't know anything.

I just responded with I responded to this earlier in the week, check your DM's. Today I tweeted this.

I don't use the other card sites to purchase cards, it was nice buying a card at a time at cheap prices because then the wife is unaware of how much I'm actually spending but I'm just going to have to go to other sites. There are plenty of them and Ebay is definitely not the best game in town. I was also posting a card or 2 a day when I got them, it forced me to post more regularly. I had a nice thing going but I guess it's time for a change.

But alas, I'm posting today because I did finally get some cards after nothing for the last week. Including a player collection that I rarely add to anymore.

I won this guy who just got some votes for Cy Young this year. Nowhere close to winning but hey, it's a start for the young man. This is my 24th card of Lucas, I picked it up for $.54/shipped. It's also my first card from this years Update set.

It's always nice to pick up my all-time favorite player from Michigan. He was a stud RB back in his college days. This is my 42nd card of Mike and only the 2nd I've picked up this year, which is about up already. I only paid $.32/shipped as well, so there's that. It's also fitting that I get a card of his the day before we play Michigan State since he was the one that coined the phrase "little brother" when referring to them.

Payment problems

Hey, I'm back. I finally got another card in the mail. Although with my current issues on Ebay, I may not be able to buy anymore. I won a card and have been trying to pay for it but it won't process. I pay for it, it shows pending (which it never does) for about 5 minutes, then goes back and shows that payment is due. I don't get any error message, no email saying my bank declined the payment nothing. It's like nothing happened.

I spent half an hour on the phone (which I hate doing) with Ebay, they watched as I went through the above process and even said they aren't getting an error message. They are blaming my bank, which of course is closed until Monday. I went to Paypal and changed my default payment to the credit card already on file. Went back to pay it and it doesn't show the credit card, only the bank account. My credit card is nowhere to be found, at least on Ebay. Now I've emailed Paypal and am awaiting on a reply.

I already contacted the seller (whom I regularly buy from) and told him about it so he's being cool about it. We'll see what happens when more cards are won and I can't pay for anything. They need to figure their crap out. Anybody else having this issue?

Enough with my bitching though, here's the card I got today.

It's always great to purchase a Vintage, it's even better that it's a White Sox vintage. I picked this up for $.54/shipped. It's my 2nd card of Bob, and my 37th card from the '68 Topps set.

New PC Collection

I got a couple more cards, both Michigan men again. One is a PC I've had for a few years, the other is the first card of his new PC.

I'm not sure I've ever seen this card before but now I have, and in person. I picked up this Maize and Blue Funchess for $.35/shipped. This is my 38th card of him.

This is a new collection as he was drafted out of Michigan back in 2014. This is the first card I've even seen of him, not that I've been looking heavily. According to TCDB, he only has 35 cards to begin with. I picked this up for $2.13/shipped.

Playing Harbaugh

It's been a nice week and a half for Michigan Men, I seem to be picking them up at a pretty good clip lately. Today is another Michigan man but technically, it doesn't really fit in to my collections, but I bought it anyways.

Pretty sure you all know him. I was thinking I had seen a photo of him throwing out the first pitch in a Michigan hat so I wonder if that Tigers hat isn't photo shopped. This is my first card of Harbaugh (which isn't surprising). I paid $.32/shipped which is sad since I've been trying to win one of these since 2016.
