All coming together

Before I get started on today's post, I want to throw another blog at you. I've mentioned my cousin Sluggo here many times and he has moved up here and it's his dream to run his own card shop. He's starting a job in a week but he only plans on keeping it long enough to establish some work up here so he can buy a house. After that, he's going to open a shop. He's already looked at a few places but he wants to get a house first so he's not looking real hard yet. We made the decision to start listing stuff on Sportlots, right now it's all commons (over 13,000 cards) but it's a start. I'm helping with all the online stuff so I've spent a considerable amount of time listing all those cards and I have plenty more to list as I get the time.

Back to where I was going, I set up a few accounts for him on social media (including a blog) and I'm hoping to get some follows. He has the inventory to start a store and has some really awesome cards so I'm hoping to get over to where he's staying and click some pics and start posting more on social media. Since my notepad that I keep my list of posts won't load up so I can't post it into the random, I'll pick one. Since we are talking about my cousin, I'll show some heritage that he gave me. Right now, I'm working for cards so I keep whatever I find in the common boxes that I want. A bunch of these are the SP's though so he let me pull those as well. He's bought me a couple of higher dollar cards at our last trip to the LCS, you'll see those when the random pulls them up.

We'll start off with the 2021. I had gotten some from Fred but these 4 were all new to my collection.

I let the pictures fall where they lay so we'll jump around a bit. These 3 I needed for the 2017 team set.

I needed all these for the 2020 set. They are all high numbers. The Seby Zavala is a SP, that wasn't supposed to be in there.

Here we have the short prints that he gave me. Minus the Seby up there that I scanned in the wrong one. They obviously like to put Abreu in the SP's every year.

Newer and Older

My White Sox are on a roll so why not show off some Sox cards. That and that's what the random told me to show today. We've won 3 in a row, are over .500 after being right at .500 7 times already this year. The bats are finally coming alive. Kopech got the start today and as of the 3rd inning, we are up 8-1 already. We're currently in 2nd place in the division but we are only 1.5 back going into today. 1 game in the win column and 2 in the loss, we've played 1 more game than KC.

I picked up these awhile ago when I was trying to get 2017 team sets completed. Which these 5 did. That card in the middle is my 49th of Rodon, who just threw the Sox's 20th no-hitter.

Picked these up while looking at the base Bunt. I'm actually only a couple cards short on this team set as well. This is my 13th cards of James Shields.

These 5 also complete the 2017 Chrome set. I need to get back to buying Sox cards but I'm having so much fun going through my player collections. This is my 34th card of Fulmer, 22nd of Q, 33rd of Frazier and Reynaldo, and lastly, my 146th card of the current MVP.

Once I get close to my budget when shopping on Sportlots, I look to see which sellers I haven't bought at least 4 cards from and look through their inventory just to see if there's anything I need. That's what the following cards are.

I picked this up from 2015 Panini. It's my 10th card of our former manager.

I picked up these 1981 Topps Stickers from a seller. I only have 3 for the team set but I do enjoy getting these early 80's stickers. This is my 11th card of Lamar Johnson and my 10th of Wayne Nordhagen.

I picked up these 4 from the 1976 SSPC set. I know 2 aren't in Sox uniforms but they were listed as Sox cards on Sportlots and if you've used it, there isn't many pictures. It does have the Sox listed as their teams on the back so they would still get counted as Sox collection. In order of appearance up there, this is my 7th card of Ralph Garr, 3rd card Nyls Nyman, 10th card of Pat Kelly and my 11th of Jim Spencer.

Lastly, I picked up this Billy Pierce from 1979 TCMA. I was happy to grab this card as I don't have a bunch of him. This is only my 7th card of his and the majority of those are post career, as this one is.

If you want an update since it took me awhile to do this post, KC won again today and the Sox are up 4 in the 7th.

2017 Topps & more

Today, we're going to head back to the team collections. Tim Anderson says we're the best in the league, I hope they plan on backing that up. I know they play their first spring training game on Sunday but I haven't looked to see if it's on TV yet.

We'll start off this all Topps post with a great photo on a Chrome card. Chrome were just out of the budget range so this was the only one I picked up.

This Frazier was the last one I needed for the team set and I happened to stumble across his mini as well.

The A&G X set is different though, I'm only about half way on that team set even after getting these 3.

These 2 Archives also finish out that team set so I accomplished this with a number of 2017 team sets. Love the 1982 reprints.

While I didn't pick up any Bunt base, I did get these 2 blue parallels. They must have been all off my budget because it's a pretty decent sized team set at 9 cards and I only have 2.

There's only 4 in this team set and this card puts me 1 card away. I like the looks of the card, how it looks like he's stepping out of it.

This Stadium Club isn't the great photos that I enjoy, I like the action shots but it does complete the team set, minus the variation of Jose Abreu.

While everything above this photo are 2017, I did get a few more from 2018, all in one pic. All of these complete the various team sets, the gold is just a bonus. The Update is complete, again, minus the Abreu variation.

More Sox Needs

I came home with a few more cards from Fred. I think I have about half of them out of the 7. A couple were 2021 which I know I don't have, at least not in hand as I was in a box break at Nachos Grande but I haven't had the cards sent yet.

Today you get to see some more White Sox cards from 2017.

You just saw the Moncada version of this card a few days ago, now you get the Matt Davidson one. This is my 28th card of our former DH.

I picked up a few Donruss as well. I still need a couple more for the team set but these went a long way to getting me close. As you can see, the Frank Thomas on the left is the black & white variation. The Melky Cabrera is my 10th, my 26th of Frazier and my 545th and 546th of the Big Hurt.

I picked up the Lopez on the right which leaves me 1 card short for the team set. The prizm refractor on the left was just a bonus I ran across searching for the other one. These 2 give me 26 of Lopez.

I like the top 3 just because I don't have many cards of some of the old school players. The Appling (13 cards) the Fox (also 13 cards) and Lyons (4 cards) are pretty cool. I thought the Nellie Fox was a parallel because it was blue before I realized it was just blue. I would have this whole team set except I need the Moncada. Oddly enough, I have the variation but not the base, go figure. Since I don't have many of the old school, we'll change that with the numbers of those last 2 guys. The Chris Sale is my 150th and is also a short print. The 2 cards of the MVP Abreu are my 136th and 137th of him.

A couple of Sox

This post will have a lot of cards in it. A lot of White Sox cards. My cousin sent me 2 packages last month. These are the Sox cards from the second package that came towards the end of the month.

Those are all the cards from 2016. He sent me a bunch of the Holiday set but I already had a few. The only one I need now is the Abreu, to bad that Frazier don't count since Abreu is on it.

More Frazier and Abreu and some guys you don't see much on Sox cards. I'll definitely take the Zach Putnam as he is a former Wolverine. I should look and see who has played for Michigan and the Sox. Off the top of my head, I already collect Jim Abbott and Chris Getz. I know of Putnam and Clayton Richard as well. There's probably others, probably others I know but can't think of right now. One of these days I should do a list. I'm not sure where I can find something like that but I'll figure it out.

These are all from 2017. Those 4 Topps (Holland is from Update) finish off that team set except for the 2 SP's of Sale and Abreu. Speaking of Abreu, those couple of cards up there make 107 of his in my Sox collection.

A couple more of Vaughn who is supposed to be a big deal, my cousin has sent me most of the cards I have of him, these 2 give me 13 total. The Frank Thomas puts his cards at 528.

Last but not least, the 2020. He sent me a bunch of the Gypsy Queen as well but I had bought some of the Sox already but I needed all of those.

Sox additions

I headed down to my card room again this morning for a few hours and knocked out 1977, 1978 and 1979. I usually go down until my laptop is about dead so it's usually 3-4 hours. I could take my charger down there but usually by then the office chair is starting to kick my ass so I kind of use that as a timer.

I have 3 posts left this month. A team post, a year post, and a player post. Today, you get the team post. Since I only collect 2 teams, you got a 50% chance of guessing.

About half these came from Sluggo, the other half Sportlots. I believe all of them are 2019's except the Frazier. Some of those were trying to complete team sets, others I searched for by name. Either way, they all go to the White Sox collection.

For the hell of it, I clicked to see where I rank amongst other White Sox collector's, I didn't think I'd be that high. I'm listed as #8, but I'm still 4,300 behind the top guy. I'm sure I'll add more once I start logging in the Sox collection cards but I'm sure there won't be that many that I add.

Sluggo returns

I mentioned earlier in the week that my cousin (Sluggo) sent me some cards. He buys collections from people and then sorts them to sell. He always goes through and sets all the White Sox aside for myself. He'll then call me, let me know a few of the higher dollar cards and then give me a total. He usually takes the few high dollar cards, figures their values and cuts it in half and that's what I pay. All the other stuff he just throws in as it'll just be a pain to sell them all individually anyways. Sometimes I end up with a bunch of base cards, sometimes I get a bunch of parallels and inserts, just a chance I take. Since the money is going to my cousin, I don't mind if I end up paying a little more than I usually would. I picked the latest batch up for $30. He sent me 136 cards and I ended up needing 112 of those which was really good. That averages under $.27/each and there is stuff in there I would have paid more for. I have gotten photos of all 112 cards to put on My PC blog but don't worry, I won't show you them all. Just some highlights. I picked all of the serial number (except Topps Gold) and hits to show you.

He sent this Zack Burdi refractor that is numbered to /499. It is only my 4th card of Burdi and from what I hear, he may be a big part of the Sox future.

He sent me 2 cards of Zack Collins who definitely should be in the Sox future, probably next year. These 2 gave me 5 of his cards. This is the purple version, numbered to /250.

Sticking to the purple parallel's, here's Nick Madrigal from Bowman. I have 9 cards of his and 8 of them came in this package. He played well with us while he was up and again, will probably be a part of our future. This one is numbered to /250.

This is my 10th card of Reynaldo and the only one I got of his in this package. This is the aqua version, serial numbered to /299. He pitched up and down for us this year, but he has the potential to stay with us.

I have 21 cards of Timmy and 7 of those came in this package. This is the green version of Fire and is numbered to /199. You'll see another one of his later in this post. If you don't know who he is, you might after today when he wins the batting title for the year.

I'm not a huge fan of these manufactured relics as far as "I gotta have them" but they are cool looking. This is a Jackie Robinson commemorative patch. I have 17 cards of Frazier and 5 of them came in this package.

Another manufactured relic but again, it's kind of cool, and it's numbered to /99. It would have been really cool if that was an actual auto. I have 36 cards of Rios and this is the only one from this package.

Now to the autograph portion, he sent me 2. This one of Carson Fulmer who I have 21 cards of, 5 from this package, and this is my 4th auto which tells you, he isn't a high dollar prospect. He's been very up and down when he's with us. Actually, he's been up and down with us and the minors.

This is my 2nd auto of Tim which was the highlight of this package for me. He's on fire and if he can continue doing what he did this year, he would be a huge star so I'm definitely glad to get this in case his cards start to sore when people figure out who he is.

As you can see, I got some great cards and I also bolstered a lot of our prospects that will probably be up next year. I didn't show the few SP's and other variations here but there were some of those as well.

As you can see a great package, especially for the money. My cousin is a Braves fan and the Sox actually played them this year. I sat down here in Indiana, him in North Carolina and we watched the game and were texting during it. Sox lost, I think 5-0 and Freddie Freeman had at least 4, if not all 5 of the RBI's that game. After his 2nd HR, I just sent the text "F*cking Freddie Freeman." As an added bonus in this package, I also got this card with a note on the penny sleeve.
