Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Big Brother

Just a quicky before I head off to bed. I screwed around some after work so I ran out of time this evening to get some stuff done and here I am. Part of that, screwing around time, was spent riding a bike. I've done it 7 days in a row which is a miracle for me. Trying to lighten the load on my old knees.

Tonight's post is the older brother of Franz. I need to look and see if he has any cards yet, I would assume he does and that I need to get some. I just looked, he has almost 400 cards now so I definitely need to get on the ball. Back to today.

Only 1 card today but it's an auto, if you want to call it that with the scribble that he couldn't even keep on the label. It's my 3rd auto of his out of 19 cards. I do like the action shot on this one. I only paid $2.25 for it at the last card show in Mishawaka.

Post hockey game post

Just a quick post tonight. We went to the Michigan/Notre Dame game tonight so I'm getting a late start online. Michigan lost but it was a really good game. It's the first ND/Michigan hockey game that I've gone to that we lost so it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Tonight's post is a Michigan guy, but not hockey.

I got a couple more Iggy cards from Sluggo including my 1st autograph of his. These were mixed in with one of the lots we picked up. These 2 cards give me 13 of him.

Oldies but goodies

I guess I'm not going to a card show after all. My cousin's kids wife went into labor today so they are flying to Tennessee in the morning to meet their first grandchild. Now I'm afraid I'm going to end up at a 2 year old's party. Help me!

I've shown some of the 1977's that I've received that were a part of my player collections, you'll get to see the rest in this post. All these cards came from the card show in Mishawaka that we set up at.

I picked this up for a quarter. I just happened to run into it in the quarter box and I needed it so there you go. There really wasn't any vintage in the box so I was surprised to see it. This is my 251st card from the 1982 Topps set.

Here's the rest of that 1977 lot. Look at some of those players along with the PC ones you've seen the last couple of days. One of the sellers there heard that I like vintage so he brought this small stack of 77's that he just picked up and offered it to me for $20. How can I say no to that? It's definitely above my budget but those were some great cards for $20. I'm sure it's hard to see but these cards are in really good shape as well. All those 77's give me 271 cards.

I picked this one up for $.50 from the guy next to us. I went through his boxes since we were chatting most of the show and grabbed some stuff. I know he's a Cubs fan so that's probably why he picked this up. It gives me 105 cards from the 1975 set.

I picked this up in a dollar box. I got it a little cheaper because he gave me a discount because I picked up a bunch of Sox cards from him. This was like the Foster up there, not a lot of vintage in there but I stumbled on this one. Some big names in it as well. This was my 95th card from the 1970 set.

This was in the quarter box as well. I will definitely give up a quarter for any 1967 card. When I initially saw it, I assumed the floating head was Killebrew on the card but it's Jim Kaat. This is my 43rd card for that set.

The oldest card in this post didn't actually come from the show. It came from a collection that we got from Sluggo so this was a freebie for me. This card gives me 38 cards from the 1966 set.

3rd base legend

Found out for sure today that we aren't working this Saturday so Sluggo and I are heading out to Warsaw (about an hour away) to hit a card show. We haven't been to this one yet so we'll see. They just moved to a bigger hall to add more tables so that's a good sign.

Today you get one of the Tier 3 guys that you'll see a ton of in the next round of posts. I've been buying a bunch of them from Sportlots every week so whenever I ship it, it'll be a lot.

You only get 3 today, I picked up all 3 of these at the card show in Mishawaka. The first 2 were under a buck a piece and the 1977 was in the aforementioned lot of 1977's I bought. So far, we've seen Carlton Fisk, Nolan Ryan & Tom Seaver (leaders), Steve Carlton and now Mike Schmidt. We haven't even seen the non-player PC cards from that lot.

These 3 cards bump up the Schmidt collection to 169 cards.

1 catcher, 2 Sox

I missed a day of posting yesterday, I've been very sleepy this week. I'm doing more desk work than before which is nice on the body but it makes me sleepy. I should probably go to bed earlier.

Today's post is a Hall of Famer who played for the Sox. Both of them.

I don't know why my LCS had this but I grabbed it. Fisk was here, back when the Sox owned the local minor league team, for a rehab stint. I don't actively collect magazines but I do pick them up occasionally when they have Sox, Michigan or any of my PC players. I actually talked him in to throwing it in with our purchase so I didn't pay anything for it.

Dennis sent me this 2002 Upper Deck, I told you he hit a bunch of my PC's.

Remember that lot of 1977 cards that I picked up, remember I said it had some big names. You've seen a few, including 1 in the last post but yes, this was in there as well. Obviously, this goes to the Vintage collection as well.

These 2 cards (and a magazine) put my Fisk collection at 347 cards.

Nolan Ryan card?

Just a quick post tonight. I got a few more of a Tier 1 collection.

When Dennis sends me cards, he tends to hit a lot of my PC's (and I have a lot of them). He gifted me with this Tom Seaver card that I didn't. It highlights one of his games with the Miracle Mets in the World Series.

I also picked up these 3 at the last card show in Mishawaka. The top 2 came from the same seller in his dollar box but I bought enough cards that it only came to $.78 each. The bottom card was in that lot of 1977's that I bought that had some star power, as you can tell.

These 4 cards put my Tom Terrific collection at 523 cards.

Special Guest Appearance

We'll follow up yesterdays Tier 3 collecton with another. These cards are a lot like the ones you saw yesterday.

We'll start off with some early stickers of Carl and even a special guest appearance by Ted Williams.

Some oddballs with lots of Fleer. Apparently I need some of the 80's Fleer but not the Topps or Donruss.

I've never seen those top 3, not just the cards but the set. I've definitely seen the bottom 2 though.

You know that I've seen these though as this is the 2nd or 3rd one I've shown. I picked them all up from the same seller.

All of the above came in my shipment from Sportlots.

I also picked up this more modern card at the last show in Mishawaka about a month ago. Which we're 3 weeks away from setting up at that show again.

These 20 cards of Yaz push that collection to the century mark and puts it right at 100 cards.

Lefty pre-Friday

We are in the midst of getting snow dumped on us again but that's not the worst part. It was 50 degrees and rained most of the day yesterday so now all that rain is turning to ice under the 6 to 8 inches of snow we are getting. I'm wondering if I'll have work tomorrow. I'm ok with cancelling it as long as they don't say I have to work Saturday. I'd rather drive in the crap and not have to work Saturday.

Today you get a lefty Hall of Famer. That should narrow it down some.

II picked up all those in my latest shipment from Sportlots. Lots of stickers and a few cards. As you can see by the years, there are a lot more to come in the next shipment.

I picked up these 2 at the Mishawaka card show that we set up at. I paid a little bit for the 1977 card but only a quarter for the sticker. The 1977 came with 6 or 7 others that you'll see later which is why I paid more for it, they were all stars from the 1977 set. A couple PC guys if that tells you anything.

These 16 cards/stickers give me 142 of Mr. Carlton. I expect that to go up quite a bit with the next shipment.
