Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

New PC and a new Auto

Last Friday, as I do some Fridays, I went over to my LCS. Kevin has breakfast with his dad in the mornings and then he'll come by and pick me up and head out there. We generally hang out for awhile and talk and while we were doing that, I got bored and started looking at his dime and quarter boxes. I picked out a few things and then the owner told me that I could have whatever I pulled out of there for helping with the sorting. I stopped being picky after that I pulled whatever I wanted. Here's the haul.

As per the usual, we'll start with the White Sox cards and go to Tier 3, Tier 2 and Michigan.

I picked up these 6 Sox cards, all color parallels and an insert. That is only my 3rd card of Noah Schultz and my 49th of Madrigal. For someone who hasn't played for us in over a year, I still keep running into a lot of his cards. Those 2 Donruss of Ventura give me 186 of him and 272 of Jose Abreu.

On to Tier 3.

I haven't seen the insert before so that was definitely a good pick up and an orange parallel of Donruss. These 2 give me 241 of Bench.

There were a bunch of Ripken's but this was the only one I needed. It's kind of a cracked ice feel to it but it's from 1996 so way before they were a thing. This gives me 974 cards of Cal.

I also picked up these 3 of Strawberry, all newer cards. Most of my PC are his 80's and 90's cards so it's always nice to grab newer cards of him. These 3 give me 156 cards of him.

I even managed to get a couple of Yaz. I had never seen that particular combo card although I have seen them, just not that one. Also a parallel of 2023 Donruss. These 2 give me 185 cards of Yaz.

Next up is Tier 2.

I managed to get another color parallel of a Donruss. This is my 382nd card of Pudge.

Another Donruss color parallel. Plus another parallel and an insert of Eloy. The Gallery is a Printer Proof if you didn't catch that. These 3 cards of Eloy give me 208 cards of him.

And Tier 2 Michigan cards.

A Nico is the Maize and Blue, yes please. I've been picking up his cards pretty regularly now, this one gives me 65 cards of him.

I believe I read where Haskins was injured but I've been picking up his card pretty regularly as well. This rookie base is my 19th but as I said, a lot of those have been pretty recent.

2 more of Paye and 2 more for the Michigan collection. These 2 give me 47 cards of Kwity.

I just picked up my first card of Mazi so it's nice to already grab my 2nd. This one in the Michigan uniforms.

I also found my 2nd card of Clark Elliott not long after finding my first. This one, the LCS owner found and held for me and gave it to me when I got there.

I pick up Franz cards pretty consistently so it's nice to grab a couple of his big brother. I hadn't added any of his since April so these 2 were nice to see. They give me 36 cards of him.

It was really nice to grab this cards of Moussa Diabate because it's my 1st of him. That right, another PC. This gives me 131 different player collections.

While all of the above I got for sorting, I did purchase 1 card that Kevin saw and showed me.

When he showed me this, I knew I wanted it. I didn't have any autos of my favorite Sox pitcher. He had $15 on it but he said he'd take $10 so I coughed it up and gave it to him. I don't regret it. I love having an auto of Buehrle. While it's my 1st auto, it's my 385th card of Mr. Perfect.

More list boxes

Nothing too exciting going on, just trying to get through the week and start my weekend. Saturday will be a busy day as we are doing a card show during the day. Then I'm going to the Michigan/Notre Dame hockey game and then come home and watch the Michigan/Iowa game. Hopefully, both will be Wolverine wins.

Today's post are the cards I sorted last week. If you remember from the post that I recorded what I do when I sort. I had a bag of cards to sort and then a bunch of list players, this time it was MLB.

The top 2 rows were all Topps Update which I didn't have any yet and also a Bowman Platinum which also just came out in the last few weeks or so.

I picked up all 3 of these for the Vintage collection. They are list players as Ted Simmons is a Hall of Famer (and former Wolverine) and Don Mattingly is on the list, probably because he should be a Hall of Famer.

This actually came from the bag of cards, but he's a hall of famer so it went to the list box and then sorted into my stack.

I added 13 more of Cal Jr, other than the 2023 Donruss, they are all from the 90's. These cards boost the Ripken collection to 974 cards, maybe I'll hit 1000 before the end of the year but that is closing in soon.

I also picked up 6 more of Schmidt, mostly look a likes and a couple of Stadium Club. These 6 give me 358 cards of Mike.

That's all of the Type 3 collection, on to Type 2.

This was also in the 2023 Update bag but he's a list player so it would have ended up here as well. If you remember, I just hit 100 cards with Dylan so this is number 101.

Another 2023 Donruss, this time of Fisk. I've picked up a bunch of these former player cards from 2023 Donruss.

I picked up this Optic of Eloy as well.

I picked up 3 more of Robert jr as well. That Bowman Platinum came from the bag of cards but again, he's a list player so I ended up with all 3. The top left card is one of those Clearly Donruss. These push me over the 200 mark of Luis by 1. These give me 201.

NBA & NFL

2 weekends ago, I sorted some list boxes of NBA & NFL so obviously I pulled some for me. I wasn't sure how many list players on those 2 sports that I would have but I ended up with more than I thought but I wasn't expecting much.

I was surprised I didn't have this base rookie and it looked familiar to me but I found that I have 6 variations of the optic version so that's probably what I was thinking of.

I knew I hadn't seen this one however. Hutch has been a beast in the pros and it's showing on how many cards he has been getting. This is only my 30th but there are plenty more for me to get.

I did manage to grab a bunch of Woodson's though, including one in the Maize and Blue. These 11 bump his collection up to 56 cards which seems low but I haven't been collecting him really long.

Now on to the NBA cards.

I had never seen the yellow bordered Hoops cards before. There were a bunch of them in the box. The set is called Superstars. These 3 of Larry Legend give me 105 of him.

I did grab 5 more of the recently traded Jordan Poole. We'll see how long before I get some cards with his new team. These 5 give me 48 cards of Poolio.

I also got 4 more cards of Franz. I remembered he was on the list when I started going through them. These 4 give me 41 cards of the younger Wagner.

I always add cards of Webber when I do the list boxes since he's a hall of famer. I started this collection at the same time as the Woodson but I have way more cards of him. These 3 give me 165 cards. Now that I think about it, I started the Larry Bird collection at the same time as those 2.

I think I only have 1 post left and then I'll be caught up, just enough time to go into the weekend when I usually end up with cards. I do have 2 boxes of cards to sort but they are all 1993 Topps and I've already gotten everything I need from those sets so unless there are some gold or gold winners that I don't have, I don't see myself coming away with anything.
