Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Pop Up Cal

A guy at work came up to me with a Todd Collins Michigan card and showed it to me. We started talking about cards and he said he was just getting back into it so I have him TCDB and Sportlots addresses for him to look around. I'm going to try to get some cards to give to him on Monday. I don't have a ton of non-collection cards but I think I have some of his team. It was rather enjoyable to talk cards at work, even if it was just for a few minutes.

Today's player collection is one of PC's that Dennis and I share, that has nothing to do with Michigan.

This is the 1987 Pop Up from Donruss. I already had the 1988 and 1989 so when I pulled this out, I thought I already had it. I'm not sure I knew they did that many years of them.

I'm not sure what this is, I didn't measure it but it's about the size of a 4x6 photograph. It's not quite as thick as a card but feels like one. I thought maybe it was a photograph type pic but this is the back.
I assume this was some kind of give-away at a school or whatever. I'm guessing whatever it is was, was directed right at kids by the quote (maybe) on the back.

Since it's an odd size, I put it on my shelf with the Ripken mini figure and his book.

Dennis will get a lot of thanks until my Sportlots package that I haven't even had shipped yet gets here because all I have left to show on the cards he sent me.

Lucky 13

This is my last post. From the last package from Sportlots that is. I need to ship my next one, I'll probably do that tomorrow afternoon/evening since I have to work.

This is another Tier 1 PC player but I believe I was still in the process of buying his cards when I shipped from Sportlots so I'll have plenty more of him in my next shipment as well as the rest of my Tier 1 players. I do have some more cards to show until that comes in as Dennis sent me a package, which I really need to send his out but I keep forgetting to get it together. I'm a slacker.

These were my 80's pick-ups of Tom Seaver. The 2 1985 are from the Donruss Highlights. 3 different Sportflicts from 1986, all sharing with other players and the 1987 Fleer at the bottom is the Glossy version.

These were all the 90's cards I picked up. The Swell followed by a Interpretive Marketing Baseball Wit, which I had never heard of. The rest are Upper Deck and an Action Packed.

These 13 cards were just a small portion of the 49 cards I added in the last package. I was only through 2002 when I shipped though so there will be plenty more coming in the next shipment. These 49 cards put the Seaver collection at 449. We'll see if the next shipment can get another PC over 500 cards. Right now, I only have 3 other players with over 500, Konerko who you saw yesterday and Ripken. The 3rd isn't a PC, I just have a ton of his cards, you should know who that is if you've been around here. If not, it's Frank Thomas

A new leader

This is the last of this player collection from the latest sportlots package so you'll finally get to see how many I received.

As per the other posts, we'll go alphabetical by brand.

Only 1 Bowman today but that's because I already had the base or paper or whatever you call the original one. He only had a base and a Chrome in 2003, and of course all the parallels of those 2 cards.

I added these 2 Donruss. When logging cards on my sheets, I always put the manufacturer in front of Studio (and Finest and Stadium Club) and I always put Donruss in front of Studio, even though the earlier versions were considered Leaf.

I added 4 more Fleer, which makes 12 of the 2003 cards I have Fleer. I don't think I realized just how many sets they were putting out in the 2000's. I knew it was a lot, just not that many. The 2 on the right are almost identical on how Konerko is but they are 2 different shots.

I did get one Leaf, if you don't include the Studio. I like the box with the team logo.

The Topps portion of this post doesn't have too many base cards. The 2 Total's at the top, 1 is the base, 1 is a checklist. As many cards as they put out in that set, you think they could have used a second photo. There's 2 Mini's, the 205 (Polar Bear) on the left and the Mini Opening Day Sticker. The Gallery is the Artist's Proof and the Stadium Club is the Royal Gold so the only base is the Total at the top.

Lastly, 5 more Upper Deck. Even a serial numbered Finite up there. I remember getting any serial number being exciting, not so much anymore when it's out of /1999. The top left and bottom right are both Fortyman. The Victory is the orange parallel.

In this package, I added 108 new Konerko's which boosted his PC to 638 cards which makes it my highest. It was 2nd but now it has the lead by over 80 cards. I would assume my next Sportlots package will have more Konerko's but I don't know that for sure. I'm sure it won't be this many, most of it will be my other Tier 1 PC's.

You see, Timmy

The title of the post refers to a line in the movie Speechless. I'm pretty sure it went over most of your heads. I even clipped the dialogue for you.

Not much going on around here. I've been staying up too late and napping when I get home, which makes me stay up late again. It's a vicious cycle that I need to break. So here I am, posting later than normal.

You get more White Sox cards today, but of a player collection.

I hear a lot of people saying Timmy should be the face of the franchise, possibly even the MLB. I couldn't agree more. The more I hear about him, the more I like him. I picked these 4 up trying to complete team sets on Sportlots. I've stated before that I like black backgrounds on Sox cards so I like the A&G X. At least the sticker is an action shot.

These 4 cards give me 74 of Mr. Anderson. I can't say Mr. Anderson without hearing it in the voice of Agent Smith.

Another one down

No Sox or player collections today, that only means one thing. Vintage. This is the first year I started collecting so this post is special to me.

This whole post all came from Sportlots because the card barrel didn't have any of these so I had to pay more. You know, $.18 instead of $.15.

These however, I paid more for. High dollar vintage right here. I paid $1 for the Raines rookie and $.75 for the Fernando rookie. I probably paid a little more shipping on those as well because none of the free shipping dealers had these. I also paid a quarter for the leaders card.

These 2 also go to the team card collection and complete all the team cards from this set.

I lied, I needed a couple of White Sox cards too for the set.

I lied again, this is also a player collection card. It'll go with all the other Mike Schmidt cards. I also paid a quarter for this one.

All of these cards left me with only 1 more card to pick up to complete the set. Some of you say he doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame but the price of his rookie card compared to all the other cards in this set says different.

This was the last card I needed for the set. The whole set and the team set as it would be. It was the last because it was definitely more expensive than I planned on paying. I paid $4.10 for it. I know it's not much money for some of you but I hate paying $4 for 1 card when I can get 20 cards for $4. It cost more because there was only one on Sportlots and the seller didn't have discounted shipping to the Sportlots box so I had him direct ship it. It was the last one I bought but the first one to arrive here.

This was one of the first sets I tried to complete. I started this one and the 1973 set (birth year) at the same time, before I even started the Vintage collection. This was a relatively cheap set to finish, I really have no excuse for not finishing it sooner other than I just didn't take the time to do so.

Busy Day

Spent most of the day in my card room scanning cards.

That's where I was when I started the day. Yes, I keep track. Technically, that's not how many images, that's how many cards, I need to change that heading. Most of the cards I scanned, I did front and back so I did twice as much scanning.

That's where I finished. So I finished 69 cards, I was counting the scans I was deleting off my laptop afterwards and I lost count just over 100 so even though it sounds like 69 cards doesn't seem like I did as much as it felt like, I feel like I was pretty productive.

On to today's post, the last of the White Sox posts for this round. More 2018 cards trying to finish team sets.

These 3 cards complete the flagship Topps set. Minus the many variations that is.

You'll notice this is the All-Star Game parallel by the stamp. I just happened to see it looking for the other cards so I picked it up.

The card on the left finishes off the Chrome team set, the one on the right is a refractor that again, I just happened to run across and it was the right price.

These 2 still leave me needing 2 more for the Holiday set. I can't really tell you why but I do like these holiday sets.

Last but not least, well, maybe it is, the Limited Edition cards. One thing this post tells you is just how much money Topps makes by making a new set and just putting a stamp on it. That doesn't include the millions of parallels on each set. It's a good thing I don't pay much for these cards.

Only a few more posts before I start the cards Dennis sent me, plus I'll mix in another Sportlots shipment. After I ship it that is.

Saturday With YoYo

Had a lazy day today, so lazy that I didn't even scan cards. I did get on Sportlots and spent my "allowance" for the week. I really wish I could just drop a ton of money and buy all the cards I need. I'm going through a player on my Tier 2 collections and I only got through 2 years of his career before hitting my budget. I even doubled my budget this week because I had overtime. I bought 78 cards, the majority of those from 2 years of that 1 players career. At this rate, it's going to take me forever to get through them all. I'll probably ship from the box next week, give it a few days for some of these cards to get there. I already have 224 cards waiting to ship.

I managed to pick up a bunch of YoYo. I'm hoping for big things from him this year. Is it time for baseball yet? I wasn't even aware of A&G X before I started buying Sox cards to fill team sets.

Love the Gold Label, 2 different classes there. The Big League sets are also pretty good sets. That's a good action shot, including the ball, which always makes for a good picture.

These were are all purchased from filling in 2018 team sets a few months ago but they came in my last shipment. I did pick up 20 or so cards today for some of the 2017 sets, or at least a couple of sets. Just getting me up to my allowance amount.

These 10 cards give me 115 cards of Moncada.

14 more of 14

I came home and watched Michigan spank Notre Dame in hockey (from yesterday). It made me miss going to the games. Ever since ND joined the Big Ten in hockey, I usually get to at least one game on the ND campus which would have been this week.

I'm currently watching the men's basketball team beat up on Purdue and figured I could spit out a post for the evening. It'll help me stay awake until the game is over. I went in early today so I was up at 3:40 this morning and I'm ready to go to bed.

As usual, we'll start out with the Bowman. Only one today but I do like this Heritage card.

Apparently Donruss decided to produce a ton of sets before dropping out of business as every one of these 6 Donruss cards are from different sets. I like what they were going with on the horizontal card but I wish they would have filled that space to the right with something.

Technically I guess these are Donruss as well, at least they were at one time. I don't really know the history between Donruss/Leaf. I do think for awhile the Leaf sets were looking much better than the Donruss.

The rare Skybox set. Not a bad looking set but I could do without the huge facsimile signature across the front.

Like Bowman, only 1 Topps and it's a Heritage. I'm glad they didn't make the Heritage oversized as well, that's the only thing I hate about the early vintage.

3 more from Upper Deck, I didn't mind the Artifacts set, I wish it would have lasted longer than it did. As you can see, the Sweet Spot is numbered.

All of these cards are from 2005. Something else happened in 2005 and Konerko. Anybody? The Sox became world champions! Sorry, I don't have many I can brag about so I still have to on occasion.

Only 1 more Konerko post is coming but it's up to the great random on the internet on when you get to see it.

Gio and some team updates

Just a quick post tonight. I didn't post last night because I took my son to get his driver's license so we no longer have to drive him back and forth to work. Woohoo!

I watched the Michigan women's team against that team from Ohio today. They lost a close game but the story was Naz Hillmon who scored 50 points setting a record for Michigan basketball. Not women's basketball, all of Michigan basketball. Had she had a little help, they might have pulled the game out but it was a very impressive showing by Naz.

Also an announcement was made today, the cover of RBI baseball goes too...

Timmy! This is great for him and baseball. He really is a good guy to rep the MLB. Congrats to him.

On to today's post, since we're already talking about the White Sox. This guy, like Tim above, reinvented himself and became an All-Star with the improvements and is the ace of the club.

I've said before that I like the design of the Fire and Chrome always looks good, even if it is on a Bowman.

These 3 card of Lucas give me 53 of him.

I'm not working this weekend so hopefully I'll get around to logging and scanning a package I received earlier in the week and get them into the rotation.

Back with black

I was going to post yesterday but as you can tell, I didn't. Sorry, I got sleepy. I'm here today though with some more PK.

As always, we'll start with Bowman because I do it alphabetically. 3 Bowman this time though, I think most of the years I've posted have only been 1 card. 3 different sets even, Best, Chrome and Heritage.

Back when Donruss was Donruss. I like the black background with the Sox jerseys.

A couple more Fleer, I've added a ton of early to mid 2000 Fleer's to his collection.

Even got a Pacific card this time. Konerko is probably sliding because the 3rd base coach forgot he is the slowest person in the league. I can't tell you how many times I complained when a base coach would send him just to get thrown out by a mile.

Another Home Team Advantage along with the base, not sure how I didn't have that and the always liked Gold Label.

As always, we finish with the Upper Deck. I like the horizontal card, again, black background.

All these were from 2001 and I still can't tell you how many cards of PK I have yet because I still have more posts with him.

Terrific Odd Balls

What? No Konerko post today? What are you going to do? Don't worry, more of you will appreciate these cards anyways, except, they aren't all cards.

I'll start off with a couple of oversized cards of Tom Terrific, both from the original Donruss brand. I'm not sure I even realized they were oversized when I bought them. I would have bought them anyways, just saying.

Lots and lots of stickers. I always enjoy the 80's stickers, lots of memories. I threw the Star Sticker in there since it's technically a sticker but I think most of us consider it a card since it's the same size.

This is a 1984 Fun Food Pin. This scan is a little more blown up because it's only the size of maybe a nickel. I don't think I've seen these before. I'm not sure where I'm going to put this, probably find some place on my shelves for it.

Theses were all pretty fun to open, you gotta love some oddball stuff.

More of, well, you know

Since we seem to be on a Paul Konerko kick, let's have another one. As you can tell, I bought a ton of PK cards, all for under $.50/piece. I'll give you the numbers once I get to the last PK post. Today's you'll get to see the cards from 2002.

As usual, we'll start with the Bowman, or Heritage in this case. He didn't have a Bowman card that year so this and a Bowman's Best is all he had and I now have both.

For Donruss, I picked up this 1982 look-a-like Originals and the Studio. The Studio sets always annoyed me because I always list the manufacture in front of Studio and there's a few years where it could have been Leaf or Donruss. I realize they are one in the same but that's how I list them so this year, I appreciated that they used the Donruss in the name.

In the early 2000's, Fleer put out a ton of different sets. Kind of like Topps these days. Along with these 10, I have 5 other 2002 Fleer cards. You see the 2 on the bottom left, those are from the Fleer set, one is a gold back which is why there are 2. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a gold back until I ran across it.

Next up is the Leaf portion, or Donruss, or whatever. I always liked the Rookies & Stars sets back when they were new.

I picked up 4 from the Topps manufacturer. I like the Pristine, probably because it's more shiney. I like the Total set, at least the idea behind everybody getting a card, I just wish the modern day wasn't an online purchase set. $10/pack is a tad pricey for a set that used to be pretty cheap (at least I remember it being cheap.)

Finally, we have the Upper Deck. I'm not sure I've seen the Ballpark Idols set before, I know this was my first one I've gotten. The Authentics set is new to me as well, that would be the 1989 look-a-like.

You tired of seeing PK yet, I hope not because I have 3 more posts but don't worry, if the random allows it, I have other players as well as a team post.
