Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Breaks package

I got a package on Friday, I think, of my cards from 4 different breaks held by the Group Break that posted about before. 2 breaks I got to pick my teams, 2 were random. All the breaks were 2011 Bowman. I’ll start with the Randoms. The 1st break I had the Braves.

aaabraves

I got these six cards. Arodys Vizcaino (Topps 100), Julio Teheran (Bowman’s Best), Julio Teheran (Bowman’s Best – #26/99), Brandon Beachy, Freddie Freeman and Carlos Perez (Bowman Chrome Prospects)

Not a bad pull, a numbered out of /99 is always good.

Next break I had the Yankees.

aaayankees2

Hector Noesi (Prospects), Jose Pirela (Prospects), Adam Warren (Prospects), Mason Williams (Prospects), Manny Banuelos (Prospects), Slade Heathcott (Bowman’s Brightest), Alex Rodriguez (Bowman’s Best), Robinson Cano (Bowman’s Best)

aaayankees3

Jose Pirela (Chrome Prospect), Mason Williams (Chrome Prospect), Adam Warren (Chrome Prospect), Hector Noesi (Chrome Prospect)

aaayankees1

Derek Jeter (Gold #’d 222/250), Gary Sanchez (Topps 100), Manny Banuelos (Topps 100)

Pretty good haul of Yankees (15 cards), which doesn’t surprise me much. When I open a box of cards I always have more Yankees then any other team. Apparently they are popular or something, who knew?

And for 2 other breaks, I got my White Sox.

aaawhitesox

Addison Reed (Prospect), Eduardo Escobar (Prospect), Anthony Carter (Prospect), Gregory Infante, Brent Morel, Jim Gallagher (Prospect), Educardo Escobar (Chrome Prospect), Jim Gallagher (Chrome Prospect)

Nothing super, but I didn’t have any of them as I haven’t bought any Bowman yet this year. Obviously, I’m keeping the Sox cards, and I have a guy who takes all my Yankees. One of these days, I’ll get around to posting a have’s page for trades. The Braves will go to that page.

Photo Cleansing #3

I save photo’s I like as I go through blogs and when I get a few, I’ll post them here for your enjoyment. And it takes less space storing them here then on my computer. I do the same thing on my other blog, only they are usually funny pics or toons. Here we go.

The longest ever double play!  Don’t know if that’s true or not but it has to be in the running.  This was in a minor league game.

knjbkjb

Don’t know if this is real or not, but why all the Yankee players with a Kansas City Royals tat on his left arm?  I understand people sometimes will follow more than one team, but not enough to tattoo both of them on them.  I could be wrong, wouldn’t be the first time.  Just doesn’t make sense to me.

small_mom-catches-foul-ball

I don’t usually post sexy women pictures on my blog, but that’s just hot!  Look at that outstretched grab.  They say mother’s can do it all, now I believe it.

tumblr_lllj1jNHxk1qh9wcto1_500

The teams on the side is tough to read but this is a graph of the nationalities of MLB players per team.  Interesting.

tumblr_llhbx8glhU1qbc6b5o1_500

That’s just funny!

I need to scan some cards I got from some breaks and I’ll try to get that post up later today.  Have to go grocery shopping too so I’m not sure when I’ll get to it.  I was able to pick my White Sox on a couple of breaks as well as I got random with the Yankees and Braves so look for that later.  I got some trade stuff picked out with some new traders as well as a few others that I have set aside, just have to package them up and get some addresses.

Also, don’t anyone forget what this weekend is about.  This picture sums it up.  Have a great Memorial Day weekend and don’t forget to supports your current and former troops.

Quick post

Just a quick note, still working a bunch because I’m broke.  Which also leads to I haven’t bought any cards in awhile.  I’ve joined a few breaks here and there when I find them cheap enough but no packs.  I get sad every time I go to Walmart and I have to walk past the card aisle.  Haven’t been to the LCS in a long while either but that’s because it sucks.  I think I’ve spoke of it before.  Just read a blog post, maybe two, about $.10 and $.50 boxes.  Would love to have a LCS that had those where I could go and spend hours going through.  I remember doing that as a kid.

I have some trade stuff to send out, I’m going to try to get that stuff out this weekend since it’s a 3 day weekend.  Although, rumor has it we might work Saturday and Sunday.  I don’t think we will, but you never know.  All but 1 are the start of a trade. I still owe Kevin some cards and I still need to get through my cards to get them prepared.

Anyways, I might get a post in sometime this week but we’ll see.  Until then, happy hunting on your collections.

Trade with BA Benny

Another trade post, are you excited as I am? I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, trading online is great. This trade was from Mike at “BA Benny’s Baseball Card Buffet.” I’ve been told he was a great trader and I definitely agree. I sent him a couple of flag jerseys and a bunch of base cards and a few inserts from the teams he collects. And what I got in return was just awesome.

trade-babenny004

First off, I loved getting these 1983 Topps and 11 of them to start with. I’m finding with the trading, that I love getting cards I used to have back in the day. I originally started in 1981 and collected heavily as a kid so I had all those through 1991 or so. I especially love 1985 and before so to get all these cards were great.

trade-babenny005

trade-babenny003

Ventura gold, a couple of Goudey, an Early Wynn, Peavy mini are all great cards. But then he sends Magglio Ordonez, Chris Sale and Sergio Santos rookies on top of that. And the Santos is a chrome! I really like the AJ and Quentin cards too.

trade-babenny002

4 more great Konerko’s to add to my collection. I really like the Chrome and the Flair Showcase.

trade-babenny001

Jon Garland – 2007 Topps Turkey Red game-used jeresey

Jermaine Dye – 2008 Topps Heritage Clubhouse Collection game-used jersey

Jermaine Dye – 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes #’d 119/249

And you can never complain about getting jersey or serial numbered cards. But even after all these great cards. He sent me these for my Colts collection,

trade-babenny006

10 different cards of arguably the best QB out there, maybe even ever. All just awesome cards.

trade-babenny007

Some of these may not seem like nobody’s to a non-Colts fan but these guys are all stars in my book. (2) Bob Sanders, (3) Marvin Harrison’s (7) Dallas Clark’s (6) Reggie Wayne’s (2) Austin Collie’s (7) Joseph Addai’s (4) Anthony Gonzalez’s along with a few other’s including a Dwight Freeney.

I can’t possibly complain about a trade like this. I feel like I short-changed him. Thank’s Mike, for the truly awesome trade. If you haven’t yet, I’d advise you to trade with him, check him out at “BA Benny’s Baseball Card Buffet.”

Trade with Kevin

I got an email from Kevin about a week ago asking for my address because he was going to send some cards my way in exchange, I could send him some cards back in fair value. I received his cards earlier in the week and finally got around to scanning them.

trade-kevin001

He boosted my Tom Seaver collection by quite a bit. Loved seeing these cards. I remember having some of these as a kid. Especially love the 1971 ERA leaders. Those alone were great. But there was more.

trade-kevin002

Paul Konerko rookies, a bunch of Frank Thomas. What White Sox collector wouldn’t want those. But that wasn’t it, there was more.

trade-kevin003

2 rookie refractors, an Aparicio, Wilhelm, Fisk and Baines. And this was just the highlights. Great lot Kevin. I’m going to have find you some good cards to even out this trade. Hopefully I’ll have some time during the holiday weekend coming up.

White Sox, Shoeless and Ingram

Sorry I haven’t been around.  Real life has been getting in the way.  As in we are broke so I’ve been picking up extra hours so I haven’t had as much free time at home to blog.  And of course, no money means not much buying of cards.  I’ve got a couple of trades in the mail and I’m going to try to get those posted tonight and tomorrow.

cws

The White Sox have been on a roll, finally.  Pitching and hitting have been going well as of late, still a few hiccups here and there, but much, much better.  A couple of players are still struggling but that is much better than the whole freaking team like they were for a month or so.  On one of the yahoogroups I belong too, a couple of people are screaming for something to be done with Danks.  Sent to the minors, bullpen or even a psychiatrist because he’s 0-6.  I don’t even join in on the debate, it’s just stupid.  He has absolutely no run support, his ERA was just over 4.50, which isn’t great, but it doesn’t suck.  His run support was less than 2 runs a game in those starts.  Thank God these people aren’t in charge of the team.  I’m not going to get into the whole debate here.  But it was just stupid.  I haven’t been able to watch too many of the games because I’ve been working so much.  But it’s still nice to hear that they are winning.

229222_173316262727292_100001467582581_441909_4540737_n

The above is the first “Shoeless Joe” Jackson autographed card.  Leaf is putting this out.  The autograph is from some court documents that he supposed to have signed.  He even signed it upside down which is the reason for the upside down print on the court document on the card.

knjbkjb

Has anyone seen this?  This is a  jersey that Mark Ingram is wearing that will eventually be cut up into cards.  Which is ok with me, we’ve all seen the event-worn jersey cards, mainly in football cards.  But to see that they have him wear a XXXXXXXXXL jersey just so they can get more pieces of jersey out of it for the cards is a tad ridiculous.  I guess this shouldn’t surprise me and I’m not sure why it annoys me so much, but it does.  I don’t collect a whole lot of football but I never did like the “event-worn” from photo shoots or whatever, now I really don’t like them.

I think that’s all I have for now, I’ll work on getting the trade posts up.

Da Bulls

I know the title is outdated but that’s how long it’s been since I sat and watched the Bulls play a game.  But with the emergence of Rose and their playoff run, and I want to see Miami go down just because they pulled a Yankees and bought a bunch of good players, I’ve been watching more.  I actually watched a few games last year and a little more this year but I’ve been trying to watch the Bulls/Heat series.  You can call me a bandwagon fan if you like, but I was a Bulls fan back in the day so technically I’m not a bandwagon fan.  I just really hate to watch NBA anymore.  If I watch any basketball anymore, it’s college.  And I don’t watch that much of college either.  So call me what you will, but I’m paying attention to NBA again and it’s been a long time.
Maybe this team will get me into watching again.  I quit watching baseball back in 1994 when they went on strike.  And it took the HR race of Sosa/McGwire in 1998 to get me to start watching again.  So maybe the Bulls run will get me back to watching.  I’m sure my wife would love if I started watching another sport.  Or not.
Either way, I found these this morning and thought they were cool/funny.

Trade with Things are Funner Here

For my 3rd and final trade post of the weekend, I had a trade with Julie over at “Things Are Funner Here.” Another great trade, I’m having so much fun trading with these other bloggers. If your on the fence about doing so, hop on over to this side, it’ll be worth it. My White Sox collection is getting bigger and bigger by the trade. I’ve been too busy to get out and buy some packs so the only thing new I’ve been able to play with are my trade packages. And Julie sent a great one as well. Here’s some of the highlights.

aaa-julie001

Love the top 2 cards, just the vintage look of them are awesome. I’m a big fan of Peavy and AJ for the way they play. Hard all the time. A flashback of Contreras who was won of our World Series heroes. I really like Ken Griffey jr, always have. I wish his stay with the Sox would have been better. He didn’t perform as well as to be expected. But I did love seeing him in a White Sox uniform. And of course an Alexei Ramirez rookie, of which I had none yet.

aaa-julie002

The Buehrle card is a numbered one, I’m guessing an exchange for the Oswalt numbered card I sent her. I really like the Allen & Ginter’s, especially the Peavy one in the middle. Also didn’t have any of the UD Xponential cards, I like the looks of that card.

aaa-julie003

And of course, Julie boosted my Paul Konerko collection with all of these by quite a bit, Actually she about doubled it. So a big shout out to Julie, go check out her blog “Things Are Funner Here” for more great card blogging.

Photo cleansing

I save photo’s I like as I go through blogs and when I get a few, I’ll post them here for your enjoyment. And it takes less space storing them here then on my computer. I do the same thing on my other blog, only they are usually funny pics or toons. Here we go.

white sox 2

Starting off with some Sox pics and news.

JepsenWP.gif.opt

This first pic, or gif, is of the wild pitch thrown by the Angels against the White Sox that let the game winning run in the 10th inning earlier in the week. If I recall, the 1st time we played the Angels was the start of our extended slump. Now the series last week seems to have gotten us out of it. It started with the play above but finished with this awesome play by Paul Konerko that gave Matt Thornton his 1st save of the year.

tumblr_ll3c8cj4Lz1qapfvgo1_500

tumblr_ll65f9d4Kh1qbc6b5o1_500

The above pic is Coco Crisp trying to outright steal home. But failed. Matt Thornton on the mound, going through his normal wind-up instead of pitching from the stretch. Crisp took a shot at it, but fell short as AJ Pierzynski tags him in front of the plate. AJ was pumped and slammed the ground while getting up. Opponents don’t like AJ because they misunderstand a lot of what he does. But when he plays for you, he plays with fire and passion. All he wants to do is win. People get upset when he strikes out and he slams his bat down. I love it, I want him pissed that he got out. His replacement, Tyler Flowers, has been in the minors for a few years now and hasn’t really panned out as much as he was thought too. So they keep signing AJ for a year or two every year. I hope he retires a White Sox player. He loves playing here and we love him playing here.

michigan

And in Michigan news.

tumblr_ll1i9yQY7b1qbxp0io1_500

The death of Robert “Tractor” Traylor in Puerto Rico of an apparent massive heart attack. Never did much in the pros but was a huge force at Michigan. I remember seeing when he did this. Couldn’t tell you if it was highlights or watching a game but I remember it.

colts 2

And in Colts news, NOTHING!!! Because they are still on strike.

256627853_thumb

How about some more baseball.

tumblr_ll3i6wvOVo1qcwqvno1_500

Tony LaRussa during the lineup exchange before the Cardinals/Cubs matchup. Why is this here? Well that’s not really Tony LaRussa. That’s Cardinal pitcher Kyle Lohse doing his LaRussa impersonation. Hate baseball or not, I think the players of baseball have a lot more fun than any other sport.

Harmon Killebrew announced that he is giving up his fight with esophageal cancer. This hung in the Twins dugout in yesterdays game at Target Field. I hate to see cancer beat anyone, but sometimes you just can’t win.

"It is with profound sadness that I share with you that my continued battle with esophageal cancer is coming to an end. With the continued love and support of my wife, Nita, I have exhausted all options with respect to controlling this awful disease. My illness has progressed beyond my doctors’ expectation of cure.

I have spent the past decade of my life promoting hospice care and educating people on its benefits. I am very comfortable taking this next step and experiencing the compassionate care that hospice provides.

I am comforted by the fact that I am surrounded by my family and friends. I thank you for the outpouring of concern, prayers and encouragement that you have shown me. I look forward to spending my final days in comfort and peace with Nita by my side."

Harmon Killebrew

tumblr_ll0zktT4hD1qh9wcto1_500

As much as you loved Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen and Horance Grant. Without the outside shooting of Steve Kerr and later BJ Armstrong, they don’t win their 6 championships. I remember this game, watched it live.

tumblr_ll0znia3aq1qh9wcto1_500

I always remember this one from one of the greatest to ever play the game. The NBA badly misses him because the league hasn’t been the same since he left.

Trade with Night Owl

My 2nd trade post of the weekend is with “Night Owl”  I reached out and sent him some Dodgers cards and he had sent some cards in return.  I had actually e-mailed 2 Dodger fans about possible trades before I had realized it so I had to break my Dodger cards in 2.  Sorry guys.  Here’s the highlights.

aaa-owl001

Love, love, love the vintage.  Without looking, I want to say those are all firsts of those years and sets, except the 1981 Topps.  But I certainly don’t mind that card either as it was my starter set back in the day.  Sportflics, awww, I remember how cool those were back in 1986.  Plus a couple of cards of some White Sox broadcasters with Beltin’ Bill Melton and Ed Farmer.  And a current base coach in Harold Baines.

aaa-owl002

And of course, another vintage feel card with the Fisk and I believe the Jenks is my first O-pee-chee card.  Really like the look of the Masterpieces as well.  All in all, another great trade from another great blogger.  Check out the “Night Owl” blog.

Trade post with GCRL

I have 3 trades that I need to get posted, I’ll try 1 a day this weekend.

Received some cards from Jim over at “Garvey Cey Russell Lopes” earlier this week. He swapped some cards with me and I was pleased with the Sox he sent me. This is just a sampling of them.

aaa-gcrl001

Some newer cards and semi-new cards.

aaa-gcrl003

Some late 80’s, early 90’s. I used to have a crap load of the 1988 Donruss, loved seeing them again. I think I stopped collecting not long after those 1995 Topps came out. And I always did like the 1994 Upper Deck. Also remember the Score Frank Thomas with the huge bat.

aaa-gcrl002

And some vintage 80’s and 70’s. I think the 1981 Topps is when I originally started collecting. I had a crap load of those too. I loved seeing the 1982 and 1983 Topps as well. I remember those sets as well. I have to start getting more vintage cards, so many memories of my youth.

Thanks Jim for the great trade. Everyone check out his blog “Garvey Cey Russell Lopes” especially if you’re a Dodger fan.

Update–Sox & Angels

I got some more trade cards in the mail but I’ll have to leave that post for later this week.  Possibly the weekend as I have a girl scouts awards tomorrow night, baseball/softball games Wednesday and Thursday.  Maybe Friday night.  Baseball/softball games Saturday and prom stuff in the evening.  So maybe Sunday.  Maybe not at all at this rate.  Didn’t realize how busy my week was going to be till I typed all that out.

For the couple of people who had e-mailed me about trades, I don’t hardly check my gmail account because they usually come to my phone so since I got nothing to it, I didn’t know I had e-mail.  I replied before coming here though.  Just didn’t want you all to think I was ignoring you.

white soxVS.angels

Anyways, I’ve suckered myself into watching the last couple of White Sox games (in case you don’t follow my twitter).  And they’ve won.  I know, I’m shocked too.  So I told my wife that we would be good and go to bed tonight at 10.  What I didn’t tell her yet is that they are on the west coast which means their game doesn’t start till 10 here.  So the TV will be on.  Shhhh!  She reads this blog, but she probably won’t until tomorrow so I’ll be safe at work when she does and realizes my master plan.

So hopefully the Sox are coming out of their slump and right this train before it becomes completely derailed.  Everything has looked good the last few days and we are going into Los Angeles or Anaheim or whatever you want to call them.  If you’re a new follower than you don’t know that there is an Angels fan at work.  And we have a standing bet.  We bet per game but a sweep pays double.  Which if you remember, the Sox started their slump when we played the Angels in Chicago and they got swept.  He told me to hold on before I paid him until after this series.  So I desperately need a sweep on the Sox favor this time.  I know this is asking a lot, especially now, but I really need a sweep.

I had read on Julie’s blog “Things are funner here” where she bet on her Phillies with a guy whom I haven’t met but have his blogged bookmarked as well at “Tomahawk Chopping” where they bet on the games against each other with packs of cards.  I loved the idea.  So if anybody out there wants to bet on the series against the Sox with me, give me a holler, either here in the comments section or send me an email – jccsst1022 at gmail dot com.  Hopefully it’ll come to my phone, but I’ll start checking more often now.  We can cap the packs price at $2.99 or something.  Hit me up if your interested.

It’s 5 till 10pm so I have to go to bed, now.  Shhh!  Until next time.

This and That

This post will be a random post, I know wrong blog, my other blog is titled Random thoughts from a Random guy. But I like this idea then 3 or 4 posts within an hour or so of each one. So here goes.

First, I finally got around to sitting down (on the floor), to scan some cards. Anything with a cord has to be locked down because our cat likes to chew them. Ask my daughter about the 3 phone chargers she’s gone through. Sorry, I’m getting more random then I thought. I just completed a trade with AJ over at The Lost Collector, I sent him some Yankees and he sent me some Sox as well as a Colts and a non-White Sox Konerko card. He seemed to be very happy with what I sent him which makes me happy because I’m always afraid I’ll shortchange somebody and he wanted to do a blind trade. But it worked out great. We were both happy with what we got. Here’s just a few of the cards he sent me.

aaasox004

Loved the Carlton Fisk’s, especially the 82 Donruss and the mini because I used to have those cards so lots of memories there. Plus he gave me my first Fisk and my first Robin Ventura card for my newly started collection. Definitely like the Sergio Santos Bowman rookie card. For those that don’t follow the Sox, he has been the 1 bright spot on the pitching staff all year long. After our previous closer (Matt Thornton) blew 4 saves early, Ozzie went to a closer by committee but it seems as he is going to use Santos for most of those. I believe he still has a 0.00 ERA for the year. Now if we can actually have a lead in the 9th for him to get some more close situations. I’m also collecting Paul Konerko cards from any team. He doesn’t have too many non Sox cards but he has some from the Reds and Dodgers. AJ has blessed me with my first non-Sox Konerko card for my collection as well.

As you can tell, AJ helped me with a bunch of first’s for my collection. So a big thanks to him and go check out his blog – The Lost Collector. And one of these days, I’ll get all the cards from my 2 trades update on my White Sox cards page.

While I’m talking about adding to my collection. You may remember I added Tom Seaver and Billy Williams to my players to collect. If not, you can go back a few days and read the post. Or click here. Anyways, I had purchased a bunch of base cards of the Gypsy Queen from the Breaks group that I belong too and got my first Tom Seaver for my collection.

aaaseaver001

So I’m still searching for my first Billy Williams card but I imagine that collection will take a little longer to collect.

I also went through my cards and pulled what few Michigan cards I have so far.

aaablue001

My collections are under way and I’m having a blast. My wife just rolls her eyes and says “honey, you have a problem” but at least it’s a fun problem to have.

cubs-suck-2

I don’t usually bad mouth other teams, much. And I’m not the typical White Sox fan who lives and breathes to hate the Cubs as much as love my Sox. That’s a whole other post but let me just say, if you don’t live in Chicago, which I don’t, the Cubs are just another team. Do I want to beat them more than most other teams, of course. But that’s just because I’m not real far from Chicago so there are a lot of obnoxious Cubs fans around me daily. There are also some great ones, but mostly obnoxious. But one feeling I do have about the Cubs. I feel bad for their fans. I don’t think I need to expound on that. Any baseball fan knows their history.

osu

That’s just funny. I don’t care who you are. If your lost, google Jim Tressel or Ohio State.

tumblr_li2pflqPdV1qh9wcto1_500

Found a site that posts “vintage” photographs so you’ll probably see those on here from time to time. I’ll post the link to the site later. But for now there is that one. And this one.

tumblr_lih356fPcQ1qh9wcto1_500

The NBA hasn’t been the same since he left.

I know, pretty random, covered three sports, one I don’t even follow anymore. But covered my two major loves, the White Sox and the Michigan Wolverines. Guess it wasn’t all random, they were all sports related.

Looking forward to tomorrow as in the White Sox don’t have a game, so we can’t lose. Anyways, time for bed, I’m getting that look from my wife again.
