Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Quicky

Just a quick post and I'll be caught up. Up until tomorrow when I log in my sorting and pickups from last weeks shows. At least I can say I was caught up for a day.

Fred (the guy I work with) has started sorting for my LCS so he gave me a stack of cards for me to check. These are what I kept.

Starting with the White Sox Collection, I like the Crochet as he's one of the guys I like to pick up because he could be good if the White Sox don't ruin him. The 4 on the right are all 2011 Bowman which I knew I had a bunch but these were Chrome and Gold. A few more older Bowman and a Minor League card round it up.

I also got 2 PC cards. An Andrew Vaughn Chrome Update rookie and a trippy Luis Robert. Hoping for big things from these 2, I'll probably get them from Robert, not so sure about Vaughn.

I'll have some more posts after I catch up on things tomorrow. We're doing the Fort Wayne show on Saturday so we'll see if I don't pick up a few things there as well.

LCS Pick-Ups

I lied, I had 2 posts left. I noticed I had scans left for another post that I must have forgotten to have add to the list that I random. So today, instead of another PC, you get more White Sox cards! Although, after getting swept by the Yankees, I'm not sure I can tolerate them.

These are all cards I picked up at the LCS I went to with my cousin.

If you remember way back when I started this round of posts, I showed some Starting Lineup figures of Bo Jackson that I purchased. Here's the card & coin that came with them. I know the card is all decked out in KC blue but it does have the Sox logo with the notation that he signed with us so I kept it.

I picked up all these out of a quarter box. I just guessed at whether or not I had them. I wasn't going to take the time to look them up over a quarter. I picked up 3 or 4 dupes but it's only a buck compared to the 20 minutes I'd have to look each card up. I'll take it. Engel and Collins are the only ones still with the team now and Engel has been on the IL but he just started rehab so hopefully he'll be back soon. He was supposed to be our 4th outfielder but him and 2 of the other outfield starters (Eloy & Robert) have all been out.

Also picked these up of our (and American Leagues) MVP for a quarter a piece. Love the black Panini National Convention card as it is all black.

Also picked up this relic of Pito for $1.50. Pinstripe and numbered to /99 for a buck fifty, yes please. These 3 cards of Abreu give me 148 cards of his.

So while I wasn't too thrilled with the LCS, I did pick up a few things that I needed for cheap. For the most part, I thought most of the cards were overpriced which is why I stuck with the quarter box and cheap relic box.

Fred Sox

Today, I'm going to show off the cards that I get from Fred, whom I work with. Every few days or so he brings me a couple of cards. He's going through all his cards from 30 years ago and when he comes across Sox cards, he brings them in to me. I scan them when I get them so that's how the pics will be. He actually brought me in a couple yesterday but I haven't gotten around to doing them yet so you'll see those in the next round.

I didn't realize how often he gives me cards until I was uploading all the scans.

I had this Jason Bere from 1994 Upper Deck but I didn't have the Electric Diamond parallel and a Magglio rookie from Fleer.

When he started bringing the cards in and I saw all those 90's, I figured I'd have most of them. I had some but he gave me a lot more than I thought I would need. This is my 3rd card of Clemons and my 32nd of Roberto Hernandez.

These 2 were studs in the 90's for the Sox, Black Jack McDowell and Rockin' Robin.

As you can tell, he had some that weren't 90's. I think he'd pick up cheap cards at the LCS or card shows for me as well. This is my 13th card of Danish.

He gave me my first 2021 Topps awhile ago and he gave me these as well. They only get shown because I received them before the box breaks cards that I had won. That is my 1st card of Heuer, my 146th of the current MVP and my 10th of Leury.

Back to the 90's with this trio of Ventura cards. Again, I though I had all 3 of these but nope.

An assortment of early to mid 90's. Another Blackjack along with a Bo Jackson, I wasn't a huge fan of his, didn't hate him or anything, but wasn't really into him. I did like Ray Durham though. That is my 9th of Parque, my 26th of Bo and my 74th of Durham.

I do like getting Mike Caruso cards. I know you're thinking who? Back in the day, the White Sox had a minor league team right here in South Bend (they are the Cubs now) and he's one of the few names I remember seeing play here. Jason Bere is another one of those guys but I remember him more from his pro career. This is my 25th of Caruso, my 48th of Belle and my 37th card of Bere.

We've seen all 3 of these guys already. I thought I had both of those Award Winners. Makes me wonder how many cards I fly by flipping through dime boxes thinking I already had them. The Fernandez at the bottom is the silver signature version and is my 46th of him.

I remember buying a box of these Collector's Choice back in the day. I think my cousin (Sluggo) and I split it. That was back when cards were cheap. It is my 3rd of Fabregas and my 5th of Valdez.

Another Maggs, with a rookie cup and another McDowell. The above Ordonez's give me 161 of him and my 55th of Jack McDowell.

Another trio, this time of 1998 Upper Deck's. This Cameron makes my 20th, my 6th of Norberto and my 12th of Navarro.

He also picked up some packs of Heritage and gave me this Keuchel. It's only my 5th of Keuchel.

A couple more for the late 90's. I told you he sent a bunch of cards in the last couple of months. This is my 5th of Scott Eyre and my 15th of Abbott.

Lastly, he picked this up at a card show for me. I think he said he only paid a couple of bucks for it and he bought it for me. This is my 6th card of Thompson and my first auto of his.

I feel bad that I never give him any cards but the one time, but that one time was an 800 count box about 3/4 full of Cubs cards so it's not like he's even close to giving me what I gave him (for the record, he doesn't have to give me anything) I just feel bad because a couple times a week he gives me cards and I just keep taking. I have to remind myself that I already gave him a box.

PWE Sox

I love the title of the blog"It's Like Having My Own Card Shop" because when I was a kid, that's what I though about all my cards. I was collecting to have every card out there and that's what I thought card shops should do. Have any and every card available. As I've grown up, that view has obviously changed. I would still love to have every card out there but that's just not feasible. It's hard enough getting the ones that I need for my collections.

Daniel from the aforementioned blog, had posted a 1973 Topps want list and I sent him a few. I think it ended up being about 5 or 6 and I threw in some mascot cards of Southpaw that I had. I told him he didn't need to send anything back but that's not the kind of bloggers we are, are we?

I received a PWE from Daniel with some Sox cards needs.

I needed 6 of them as you can see above. A purple Alex Fernandez (44 cards) from classic as well as a couple of Bowman (Zack Erwin-2 cards & Tyler Danish-12 cards). I like receiving Bowman I don't have because I hate trying to find them with a couple sets that all share the same subsets. I hate Bowman. The Ron Karkovice (44 cards) is the Cyberstats parallel. I was surprised I didn't have the Dan Pasqua (33 cards), I have a bunch of the 1992 Pinnacle's but apparently not that one. Last but not least, Daniel sent this gold Update of Jose Abreu (131 cards), I like the action shot on that card.

Thanks for the cards Daniel.

White Sox Hits

* I put my April incoming on random for today's post.

Today's random post is, wait for it, another White Sox post. Woo Hoo! Sorry, I couldn't help myself. These are all White Sox collection cards but there are a little nicer than most.

I'll start off with this Dylan Cease as it is #'d to /50. I like Cease but I can't decide if he's lived up to the hype yet. I'd like to see a little more consistency before I give him the thumbs up.

Told you they were a little better than usual. Some are dupes for me, I believe the first 4 autographs all are. There's a couple of decent names up there with Jose Abreu and of course, Frank Thomas. A couple of hopefully rising stars in Reynaldo Lopez and Tyler Danish. All of these were in the package from my cousin, Sluggo.

There are 2 more posts for this month, both vintage so all you non-White Sox fans will get to view something better, at least for you.

On a side note, I just finished watching the Sox/Angels game in '05 where AJ ran on the drop 3rd strike in the playoffs.

Sox or not

I got an envelope in the mail today, always happy to get multiple days in a row with an envelope. Nothing terribly exciting but my lists shows I don't have either but it's also Bowman which is hard to keep logged so we'll see.

These are from 2014 and neither are with the Sox anymore. Hawkins is in the Cincinnati minors while Danish is playing for Seattle, or at least that's what a quick fact check says. I picked them both up for $.15/shipped/each.

Another day, another 3 cards

I got 3 envelopes with 3 cards today. I guess the nicest thing about buying these cards so cheap is that I tend to get cards in the mail most days.

I got one player collection card of a HOFer, I though I already had it but apparently I have one with him and A-rod. This one has better company. I picked this up for $.25/shipped. This is my 126th card of Michael Jack Schmidt. I don't know why I know his name but apparently I do.

I also picked up this 2014 Bowman for the White Sox Collection. According to my list, I don't have any Chrome for this year, I'm guessing that I probably have some in my box of Sox cards but I haven't gotten around to logging them yet. Either way, I only paid $.25/shipped so if I had it, I have a dupe now.

It's Brian Anderson, so I thought I might win it but then again, it's red ink and only numbered to 25 so I wasn't sure. I was really surprised that nobody else bid on it. I ended up winning it for $1.99/shipped.

Base Sox

With all the autos and relics I've picked up lately, I've also picked up some regular cards for quarters as well.

I took a chance that I don't have this. I have almost 10,000 cards logged and it wasn't listed there but I have tons of cards that I don't have listed yet so I may have it. This is gold version so I took a shot. I picked it up for $.25/shipped

Again, took a shot. I didn't have this set listed in my team sets needs so I'm assuming I don't have any but like I said, I have a lot I don't have listed yet. I could just be screwing up what Bowman set this is because Bowman confuses the hell out of me with all their different numbered set in one. If I do have it, I'm only out $.25/shipped.

I also picked up this Snopek card on a guess. This card doesn't look familiar so I really don't think I have this one. It was also $.25/shipped.

Prospects?

I received an envelope today with 4 cards. All team collection cards, all from the same set, kinda. I'm not sure what you call the additional sets that come with Bowman, subsets, inserts, a set of it's own, I don't know, but that's what they are.

All 4 from 2014 Bowman. I believe all 4 have played in Chicago, although two of them for a brief time or during September call-ups. Tyler Danish and Tim Anderson are both on the team currently. Anderson has the best career going for him as of now, he was the starting shortstop and will be for the immediate future. I picked up the Courtney Hawkins for $.23/shipped and the Brett Austin for a $.25, which is funny because those are the 2 that haven't "made" the team. The 2 that had, I got both of those for only $.06/shipped. Maybe because the other 2 are prospects, I don't know.

Tuesday's mail day

I came home after work yesterday and worked on replacing the radiator in my car. I should say I watched mostly as my stepdad did all the work. We eventually got it in and running but I didn't have time to post the cards I received, which is a bunch. This morning, I got up and went to back out of the garage and I had no power steering. So I took my wife's car to work and when I came home, my stepdad came back over and we had to replace a belt, which was a pain in the ass, but it's done.

I did receive another card in the mail today, only it's one I didn't order. So I sent an email to who I think sent it to me, I won a 1993 Leaf and received a 1992 Leaf so I assumed it was from him. I also had to open 5 requests on cards I haven't received in over a month and had to send a message to another seller who is trying to invoice me $50.00 for shipping on a 7 card lot. I checked his feedback and he has 4 negative. All of them were lots he tried to charge shipping on after they sold cheaply so I'm guessing I won't see those.

It hasn't been a good day. Let's get to some cards, that might cheer me up.

1985 Topps
1987 Topps
I picked up both of these cards for the Vintage collection. I picked up the Scherrer for $.12/shipped/ and the Brookens for $.07/shipped.

2005 Topps Updates & Highlights
I picked up another Mark Buehrle for that collection. I grabbed this for $.42/shipped. I like that all 3 ERA leaders that year from the AL Central. World Series winner too, I wonder who that could have been.

1985 Leaf
1985 Fleer
Picked up 2 more Steve Carlton's, both from 1985. I ran across a seller that had a few of these Leaf cards for sell, you'll see a few in this post. I got this one for $.43/shipped. I also got the Fleer for $.30/shipped.

1985 Topps
1985 Leaf
2 more of Gary Carter as well, also both from 1985, also another Leaf. I got the Topps for $.30/shipped and the Leaf for $.40/shipped.

1985 Leaf
1986 Topps All-Star Glossy
2 more for the Fisk collection as well, you also might think I only picked up 2 for each collection. The last of the Leaf from 1985 and this one came for $.48/shipped. The 1986 Glossy came to me for $.38/shipped.

1998 Pinnacle
1998 Topps Rookie Class
1998 Upper Deck Rookie Edition Preview
Picked up all 3 of these Konerko's from the same seller. These 3 cards put my Konerko collection at over 400 different cards. Oddly enough, they were all listed as singles but I won all 3 for the same amount, $.38/shipped.

1991 Leaf Studio
1993 Fleer Ultra
1995 Leaf
1992 Leaf Preview
4 more Ripken's as well. I picked up the Studio for $.44/shipped, the Ultra $.54/shipped, the 1995 Leaf for $.27/shipped and the Leaf preview for $.44/shipped. I googled the 1992 Leaf Ripken card to see if it was a different photo and it is from the exact same play but about a second later.

2013 Bowman Chrome Draft Pick Autographs
I also managed to get this rookie auto of Tyler Danish, he is currently in the minor but he did make his major league debut this year. I'm not positive but I think he got called up to cover for a bit because of injuries before being called back down. I picked this card up for $3.63/shipped.
