Card Show Lots

Well, Michigan lost after the offense decided to not show up and the White Sox lost their opener essentially on an error. Not a great way to start the season, but we do tend to struggle on the west coast. I know it's only the first game in a long season but to be honest, I'm just happy regular baseball is back.

I need to remember next time, not to let my Sportlots package get so huge because it takes forever to log and scan them. I got them logged finally after a few hours during the week and most of today. Tomorrow I will be scanning but I have to help my brother move some stuff so hopefully that won't take too long.

Today's random came up with something we don't see too often anymore but I ran into some at the card show. A guy had small lots of Vintage together, really cheap because they weren't in the best conditions. I picked up a few because of the types of cards they were or the amount there was.

I paid $1 for this lot and it actually had 5 cards. The other 2 will be in another post as they go to another collection as well. Still, $.20 a piece, who can pass that up. These 3 (and the other 2) put that set at 242 cards.

I paid $.50 for this lot of 3, these are a little more battered than the 1977's but I figured worse comes to worse, I'll replace them if I actually get close to finishing the set. These 3 put that set at 353 cards so at least I'm a little over half on that one.

These 13 cards came in 2 lots but they were only $.50 each which you can see why, some of them are pretty beat up. There were other cards with these 2 lots but I already had them, they were Sox cards because even with these 13, I only have 99 cards from this set and almost 1/3 of them are Sox cards as I'm only 1 card short of the team set.

I paid $1 for this lot. Yeah, I know there's only 1 card. The lot was 5 cards and they were all leaders cards from 1971 but this and one other were the only 2 that I needed. The other one had a player collection so you'll see that when I do his post. You know those leaders cards have some great names on them though. I even gave two of the dupes to Fred at work because they had Cubs players on them. The 2 I needed give me 112 cards for that set.

Sox are up so far, let's hope they keep it tonight. I'm out!

Another 1985 Set

We all survived our Thanksgiving. I got my Covid test results back and they were negative and I still have 2 more days off of work. I'd say we're having a good weekend so far.

Why not put out a post. The random generator gave us a vintage collection post but it's an 80's set, so it may not thrill most of you but it's a set that we don't see much.

Now remember, I had to get all these card pics from TCDB because I lost my scans so you're going to get a bunch of pics.

Jeff over at 2x3 Heroes sent me all of these 1985 Donruss which are definite needs. I've completed the Fleer and Topps sets from this year and these 14 cards only give me 61 cards from this set. They must not have produced as many cards as Fleer and Topps because I just don't run into them nearly as often.

Random 60's Vintage

You already saw the Vintage post from the 50's, today's random puts us a decade later.

I'll start with the lone 1969. This is my 48th card of that set. I have a few of these leader cards, they are generally much cheaper for some big names.

Two pretty good names for the 1968 set. The 2nd Bob Gibson of this post already. So far no Yankees either unlike the 50's post. These 2 cards make 40 on the 1968 set.

My lone 1966 card and it's a Mickey Mantle, sorta. I certainly don't mind checklist, especially when they are part of the set. I prefer the ones like these that do have something to collect on them as well. This is the 34th card in my collection of this set.

Also one card from 1965 and another leader card where you get 3 pretty good players. This is only my 25th card from the mid 60's set.

We had a couple of Yankees up there but like the 50's post, there's a bunch more coming. This 1963 gives me 14 cards, a long way to go.

With 1 less card at 13, this original wood board card, and another Yankee. A rookie at that.

And 2 more Yankees but those are some big name Yankees, and being vintage instead of the millions of reprints just make it cooler. These 2 1961's give me 20 for the set.

Another White Ford and even older, I'll take it. This Whitey Ford gives me 42 cards from 1960. I remember buying a bunch of White Sox from 1960 which is why I have more from that set than the others. Out of those 42, 27 are from the White Sox.

All of the above cards came from Sluggo, who should be on his way to Indiana as we speak, with another box of cards.

Sluggo - Vintage (1973-1970)

Back to work today, damn it! 2 weeks off makes it really hard to go back but after going back, I'm still here posting so that's a positive. These are the times I tend to stop posting because I get to tired after work.

I will continue on with some more vintage from Sluggo. Today, we'll get through the rest of the 70's.

Sluggo gave me 10 or 12 cards from the 1973 set but I had most of them as that's one of the sets I'm over half way completed. These 2 are pretty good cards regardless, especially for free. I'll always take Munson cards, even if he did play for the Yankees.  These 2 put the set at 457 cards for a 69% completed.

I also got 2 more for the 1972 set. These only give me 64 cards for that set which is good for 8% completed.

These 9 cards, plus the 1 below from the 1971 set definitely helped it along. They put the set at 107 cards and 14% completed.

I separated this one because it also goes to my Tom Seaver collection. This card gave me 370 different cards of Tom Terrific.

Last but not least, these 4 cards from the 1970 set put it at 63 cards and 8.7% completed. Yes, that's a former Wolverine at the end and no, I'm not completed with the vintage posts. Tomorrow will head to the 60's.

Sportscards.com

Ever heard of sportscards.com? I hadn't either until they contacted me. They wanted to send me free cards, who the hell would say no to that?

What are they? Well they plug their database which you can use to find listings on Ebay. It has all the filters and such so you can weed your stuff down, they also show sold listings which to me, if you want to know what your card is worth, what it's selling for is more realistic to me than a price in a magazine. The best thing for me is the save your search. Yes, I know Ebay has that but I also know I'm at my allotted saved searches so I can use this site to save some more.

They also sell those Subscription boxes that are everywhere now. Where you pay so much a month and they send you a box of cards. It sounds pretty basic but when you go to their site, they have 3 different price structures, all with different goodies in them according to price.

They also have Collector's boxes which are like the subscription boxes but you only get one and they are auctioned off so you may get them cheaper than you should. I counted 31 different boxes when I typed this up - To name a few - 1950's graded - Derek Jeter - Bronx Bombers - Golden Age - Autographs. You'll have to check them out as they all offer different things.

I don't remember if they asked which box I wanted or if they just sent me one. Either way, let's check it out.

Here's the box it came in. It was also wrapped in cellophane and once opened, everything in it had the gift wrap tissue paper so everything was packaged really well. I took pics of the cards inside the loaders they were sent in so you could see those as well.

A business card (a nice one, like a credit card) and the bottom card I assume comes in every box. Once you get 5, you get free stuff.

Also this, gotta plug your product. Let's get to the good stuff though. There were 3 unopened packs. We'll start with the 2018 Topps.

 

It says 10 cards, I got 11 including the insert. WooHoo, bonus. You can see the 10 to the right.

And the insert card. Out of the 11, 1 card goes to the White Sox Collection.

Next up is a pack of 2019 Topps, which I actually bought a blaster so we'll see how many new cards I got.

I only got 14 of 14 this time. Out of the 13 above, I already had 3, including the lone White Sox card. Here's the insert and said White Sox card.

Next up was a pack of 2017 Topps Heritage,

This is one of those 20 card packs and as you can see, I got 20 cards.  I didn't get any inserts but you can see I got a high number short print up there. I also got one White Sox card.

That's all for the packs but there were also some single cards in there. As I said before, I took pics of them in their loader/cases that they came in so you can see how they were packed.

This was in a sealed case with the magnet to keep it closed. I was a little confused when I got it because the sticker has their name on it, but it says factory sealed. I was also confused by the back of the card.

Upon logging it into TCDB, I figured out that it's a 1994 Topps Finest Peel Demostrations. I don't know how they were distributed or if it's actually factory sealed but at least I know what it is now.

Since we're going with cards that confused me, this one really did. It looks like one of those cards where they add a signature off of something else they signed, like a check or contract. Only, there's no signature. Here's the paragraph on the back.

Yeah, so, I have no idea since it says SAMPLE on it. It has their logo on the card as well so I assume it's a preview of some sort of a card that you could get (if you weren't a cheap bastard like myself). I don't know.

This is a 1960 Topps Jim Bunning. It also came in one of those magnetized cases and it was sealed with their sticker. Of course, I took it out of that. After having the card in hand, it is in really good condition. The only thing I see wrong is the cut and it wasn't even that bad. I certainly not going to complain about getting a vintage card.

Last but not least, I got this relic from 2001 Donruss Classics of Bob Gibson. It's a relic of the visitors dugout bench so it certainly isn't anything special but it's still a pretty cool card.

As you can see, it was a pretty cool box, mainly because it was free. Nothing against Sportscards.com, but if you read this blog, you know I buy cheap so as much fun as it was to go through everything. I probably won't buy any. I will, however, still be using their site to save some more Ebay searches.

Thanks to the Sportscards.com peeps for sharing the box with me. It was an enjoyable time going through it. If you're into these subscription boxes or want to try one of the collector's boxes, I'd say go for it. Definitely check out their site and see all the different kinds of boxes and see if something jumps out at you.
