Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Jordan card

I've been reading up on the National, not to mention been seeing the posts on Instagram and Twitter. I can't wait until I get there on Friday. I probably won't even buy anything, I just want to bask in all the cards. Who are we kidding? I'll probably buy something.

Today's post is just one card but it doubles my count of cards I have of him.

As I said, this is only my 2nd card of Jordan who was just drafted last year. He should play in the majors soon just because he's in the Cubs organization and they've struggled this year. He's still in low A so I doubt he sees a call up this year but stranger things have happened.

Number 2 & 11

Down to 2 more days before I head to the National and my first Sox game in a couple of years. Eloy is back and Robert moved up to AAA today so I have my fingers crossed that he'll be back on Friday for my game with the Guardians, (who?)

Today's random came up with a player we had not too long ago but I just got more in my last Sportlots package so it'll be a one scan post but it's a guy that we've seen a ton of cards on here in the last few months.

All inserts or parallels. 2 great shortstops on that last card and almost 2 Michigan men. Jeter was supposed to go to Michigan (he's still a fan) but the Yankees do what they do best and threw enough money at him to change his mind.

These 4 cards put the Barry Collection at 683 cards which is good for 2nd place in my collections. Just for kicks, I looked up to see where I'd be at on TCDB, I figured maybe top 5. I knew Chris (Nachos Grande) and Dennis (Too Many Verlanders) already had me but I was way down the list. #11 to be exact.

Did anyone catch the post title? Number 2 (Jeter) and number 11 (Larkin) but also Larkin is number 2 in my collection and my Larkin collection is number 11 on TCDB.

Jooeeee!

Today's post is one of my favorite 3rd basemen of all time. His time in baseball was cut short because of back problems but I loved his glove and bat, especially during our championship run in 2005.

These 3 from 2002, 2 Fleer which isn't surprising since they put out a ton of sets in this era. I like the look of the bottom card.

Speaking of our championship year, although technically since they are 2005 cards, they have 2004 photos and stats. I like the Champions card but I feel that they could have done more with it. So much empty space. You know I like the Heritage as well.

These would be the 2005 pics and stats because they are 2006 cards. Lots of Bowman up there. Great action shot on the Ultra.

One more Bowman, but this one is from 2007.

All 2009 Topps variations and sets with the same design. Sadly, this was when Joe left the South Side for the Twinkies.

Lastly, one card from 2010 which was his last year playing.

These 19 cards give me 171 of Joe. I have a healthy lead on TCDB.

Smith Sunday

I spent the day getting all my cards logged and scanned and ready to go so I added a bunch more names to the list to get randomed. Including today's player.

I picked up 2 more of De'Veon Smith, I've already gotten more than I thought I would have because I didn't think he'd get that many cards. The bottom card is a XFL card. These cards give me 9 of his. Both came from Sportlots.

Doubling Up

I was working on getting my latest Sportlots box logged and scanned but I only got them logged as my brother called, he needed help moving some of his daughter's stuff as she was moving so my daughter and I went over and helped out. When I got home, I kept logging but didn't get them finished so hopefully, with no interruptions, I'll finish them tomorrow and get them scanned.

Today's random gave us one of our starting pitchers, he's struggled a little bit the last few starts but it's his first full season so even if he struggles the rest of the season, he's still pretty good.

I mixed up my scans from the last couple of Sportlots shipments and I don't feel like looking everything up to give you years. I do know some, just not the Bowman's, they all look alike to me. The first 6 or 7 scans came from the first sh

We'll start off with a few minor league sets. I don't recognize the team on the left so I'm guessing they are a Cubs affiliate.

We'll start off with some Cubs cards from 2016. Obviously different variations of Bowman Draft.

A couple of variations of Bowman Platinum from 2017. I know Cubs fans are hating these cards as Dylan was part of the Eloy trade.

Some more variations of 2017 Bowman Prospects.

A mixed lot here, I think I just scanned the rest of the Cubs cards I had left. The bottom left is 2014, top left and bottom right are 2016 and the top right is 2017. See what I mean about throwing the last of the Cubs cards together. No organization. I should be fired.

These are both from 2020. I hate when they mess with the colors on the 1983 uniforms that they wear on Sunday home games. I understand covering their name and such because of lack of license but why the colors? The optic is the Holo version.

I got some more mixed up, the top left (SC) and the bottom (Archives) are 2020 and the top right (Opening Day) is 2021.

Dropping back a couple of years, the top row is 2017 Bowman Draft and the bottom row is 2018 Bowman prospects.

All those top photos are from my first package of Sportlots, the next are from the latest so they are organized by year.

These are all 2018. Bowman Chrome on the top and Heritage minors on the bottom.

These are all 2019, the top row are all minor league sets and the bottom is obviously Bowman but it's a mojo refracotor. Nice to pull that for under $.50.

2020's. When I scanned these, I thought the top 3 were all the same photos but that middle one is different. Almost the same position in his pitching motion, but he has a beard. Maybe he had a Sox logo on his chin and they photoshopped it on.

That was the last of the Sportlots purchases but I got a few more.

These came from Fred at work, a 2020 Topps Turkey Red and a 2021 Heritage. Always like the TR's and not a fan of the 1972 set.

Lastly, a 2020 Panini Chronicals Limited from Sluggo.

That was a lot of Cease, these 39 cards put his collection at 59 cards so you can see where it really boosted it, more than doubling it up.

Happy Birthday - Taylor Lewan

Taylor was born on this day in 1991, making him 30 years old.

Years Active -

  • 2014-present (Titans)
Titans rookie

Cards on TCDB - 665 cards

Cards I have - 21 cards

They might have overused that photo, I understand it was a rookie year and limited photographs but limited and only 1 are 2 different things.

Where they came from -

Taylor in all his Maize and Blue glory.

Happy Birthday Taylor!

*All cards are from my collection but the pictures/scans are all from TCDB.

Not a birthday post

I lied about having another birthday post. I had it on my calendar that Jake Cronenworth's birthday was today but when I went to baseball-reference to screen cap his info, it said January 21st. Not sure how I got that wrong but oh well.

How about a guy who has a family member in the league now. There's a lot of them but this is a grandson, that should narrow it down.

I only have 1 to show, I haven't got to my tier 3 players on Sportlots yet so I'm sure you'll see more in the future. I mentioned in yesterday's post that I got a bunch of Stadium Club from one seller. This would be one, obviously.

It's my 74th card of Yaz.

A free day

I got a day without a birthday to put up a regular post. The last 2 days were birthdays and the next 2 days are birthdays so it's a busy week for the birthday posts.

I added another post to Sluggo's Sports Cards of some new cards we picked up. A couple graded rookies and lots of autos so check it out.

I ordered my box from Sportlots to be shipped, it says it's supposed to be here Saturday so I'll have a package to open this weekend.

Our current bullpen, future starting pitcher is up for today. I got this card from Sluggo, he gave me a bunch of high number Heritage of Sox players and this one was in there.

The rest are from my last couple of Sportlots boxes. These are all from 2018, all minor league cards except the Holiday Bowman.

These 2 are from 2019. Another Bowman and a non-licensed Donruss, both shiny.

These 3 are from 2020, all Topps. I picked up a bunch of Sox Stadium Club and those Gold star Walmart's in my last purchase as well.

I'd really like to see Kopech in the starting rotation but on the other hand, we'd have to go to a 6 man because who are you going to take out? Our rotation is full of studs.

These 11 cards give me 71 of Michael Kopech. His collection is moving right along.
