This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Finally got some more cards

Like I said a post or so ago, there just hasn't been much to bid on so I don't have a lot coming in. I have been bidding on more cards so the number of chances have gone up, we'll see if I can actually win some.

I did get a couple of cards earlier in the week and another today. I've put down my dad's taxi hat for today so I had a few moments to get this done.

I picked up this Ozzie Guillen along with the following card from the same seller. I'm not sure I've seen these 1991 Score 100 Superstars cards before but I've won a few in the last couple of weeks. I picked up this card for $.15/shipped.

He also had the Jim Abbott from that set so I grabbed it as well. It was only another $.10/shipped. It is my 93rd card of the former Wolverine phenom. Closing in on that century mark of his cards.

I picked this up in a lot of 12 cards. There were 4 more of this card and 8 of another SI for kids cut out card of Pierre with the Rockies. So out of the 12 cards, I only needed one for my White Sox Collection so I only put my minumum for 1 card and still won it at $.17/shipped.

Plead for help

This post isn't sports related but I'm going to repost it here anyways, it is from my other blog but I'm trying to get the message out to as many people as I can so here it is.

Repost from "Random Thoughts From A Random Guy"

There's a lady at work who is one of the nicest people I know. She loves to have fun but knows how to put her boss pants on when she needs to. She's not technically my boss but I usually do whatever she asks because I like her and she always helps me out when I need it. I've only known her for about 6 months but she's definitely one of my favorite people there.

She has been battling cancer for awhile now. According to her gofundme page, she has stage 4 breast cancer but it's a little more than that. I'm going to try to remember everything she told me but I'm not guaranteeing all this info is correct. She has 3 different types of cancer right now. She also has a tumor that they need to operate on. She is going in for a surgery before she starts chemo and radiation and then stops that long enough for more surgery before continuing it. This is the 3rd time she has fought cancer, beating it the previous 2 times. There is no beating it this time, it is in her bones so it will always be there to some extent but they are going to try to get as much of it as possible.

They have given her 22 months to live. To her, that's just a number to beat. They only gave her a limited time to live the last time and she went way beyond it and then some. She has been missing work and her husband has been working during some of her appointments because they just can't afford for both of them to be off.

What can you do, well, you know what this is about. I rarely post on here for your money. I can only think of 2 other times in the 7 years I've been here. MS Society because of my wife, and another fellow employee that was battling cancer. You guys have come through before and I hope you will again. She means a lot to a lot of people including her fellow employees. She's just one of those people who you like to be around, and I want her to be around for as long as possible so please help. I don't care if you donate $1, please donate something.

I appreciate anything you can do to help. Cancer has affected my family (lost father and grandfather) as well as some who have fought it and are still around so I know how much this sucks.

Late to the party

I've been a real slacker, I've gotten a few cards in the last couple of weeks and I just never really got around to posting them so you'll get them all tonight. Luckily, I haven't been winning a whole lot lately so there isn't a ton of them. I'm not sure what's going on, there just hasn't been much in my searches to bid on, there was a few more this week so maybe it will start picking up again.

I picked up this Chris Sale for $.20/shipped. It would be my first and only (so far) 2018. This is my 131st card of Sale, my 3rd with the wrong Sox.

I picked up this Larkin for a quarter/shipped. I'm not sure I've heard of this set but it does look familiar so I don't know what to make of that. I'm guessing they only made Embossed for one year. It is my 154th Barry Larkin.

I love picking up these stickers. I remember filling up these books as a kid. I grabbed both of these 1982 Topps stickers for $.25/each/shipped.  They go to the Fisk collection as well as the White Sox collection. They make 160 cards/stickers for the Fisk collection.

I actually won a lot of 5 of these cards so if you want one, speak up or forever hold your peace. I'm not asking for anything in return, other than your address. I picked up the lot for $.15/shipped. Can't complain about $.03/card.  It's a 2005 SI for Kids which explains the perforation marks. It is my 442nd card of Konerko.

Last but not least, I picked up a couple of Sox prospect autographs. Although Micah Johnson is no longer with the Sox. I picked up his autograph for $2.50/shipped and the Luis Gonzalez for $3. I've heard of both of them but I've heard Gonzalez's name mentioned during our rebuild so they must believe he'll make the majors in the next few years.

4 cards and a week ago

I've been a slacker this week. I've gotten 3 envelopes with 4 cards in the mail this week but I haven't been getting them posted because, as I said, I'm a slacker. I actually got a Saturday off so you'll get to see them today.

I picked these 2 up from the same seller, they go towards the Vintage collection as well as the Steve Carlton collection.  I picked them both up for $.15/shipped/each. So both for less than a stamp. They make the Steve Carlton collection hit the 3 digits with 101 cards.

I picked up this for the White Sox collection for $.23/shipped. It's a nice and shiny card for my first one of Zack Burdi.

Speaking of shiny, I picked up this relic of Amara Darboh for $2.25/shipped. It's only my 2nd card of him but my first relic.

Lots of Shiny Autos

I finally got some cards after some issues. 4 cards in 2 envelopes. We'll start with the single card first as it was the envelope without issues.

This Topps Finest of Mike Hart was kind of a shock to win. I won it at $.25/shipped which considering it is a black refractor serial numbered to /99, is a great price. This is my 43rd card of the former Wolverine.

I picked up all 3 of these from the same seller. He shipped them via UPS with tracking and they were supposed to be here on January 18th and they never showed up. Late last week, I sent an email to the seller, I wasn't asking for a refund of any kind, I told him that I saw that they shipped but they seemed to be stuck in Illinois so he may want to look into it. No response but after a few days, I received a refund, but only for the Morel as that was the card I selected to send him a message. So I sent another message with the other 2 cards to let him know that if he's going to refund my money, then he needs to refund these as well. No response but when I came home today, they had finally shown up. So I sent him another email telling him they showed up and not to issue the refund on the other 2 cards. I checked the tracking and at that point, it still said they were in Illinois. A few hours later, I checked Ebay again and the cards were listed with a case closed because they were delivered. I ended up going on Paypal and sending the payment that he refunded me, back to him. Long story short, I finally got them. I paid $3/shipped for the Santos, $1.25/shipped for the Walker and $2.47/shipped for the Morel.

I got a card today, it was one I thought I already had but I don't have it listed so maybe I don't. It's an auto so I bid regardless if I have it or not. If it's a dupe Michigan auto then I check with Dennis if he has it or not, if it's a dupe White Sox auto then I check with Jeff.

I should start a player collection of him, according to my Michigan list, this is my 7th autograph of Adrian Arrington. I picked this up for $1.42/shipped so how could I really pass it up anyways.

2 teams, 3 cards

I got a few cards today. A couple I've been trying to win and a relic I've never seen.

We'll start with the relic.

I've seen the 2001 relics so that wasn't new, I just don't think I had come across a Royce Clayton one. Between being a 2001 and it being Clayton, I'm sure I would have won it sooner had I seen it. I picked it up for $1.51/shipped.

I picked up these 2 from the same seller. I only won them because I decided to up my high bids for Michigan cards from a quarter to $.50. I got tired of losing them for $.30 all the time. Although I picked these 2 for $.50/each/shipped. It's only my 2nd card of Chesson but my 4th of Butt.

Green Q

I got one card today, well, technically, yesterday but I went to the gun range so I didn't get time to post it then.

It's one of the ton of parallels to the Topps sets now-a-day. I like the looks of the different colors. I hate having to collect all of them. I picked this one up for $.23/shipped. I liked Quintana and was sad to see him go but I understand the rebuild. It's a feeling us Sox fans have gotten used to. It was a lucky trade for him though, he doesn't even need to move.

A couple of Sox

I got another 2 cards from 2 different envelopes. I'm not sure if they came today or yesterday since we didn't get the mail yesterday. Kids had school cancelled because of the freezing rain at below freezing temperatures so they didn't grab them and when I got home, I forgot to grab it. Oh well, you get today.

I picked up this Opening Day card for $.19/shipped. I was pleasantly surprised when I took it off my team set list because it leaves me to only 1 more card for that set.

I picked up this auto of a guy I'm not sure I've even heard of. It's from 2002 so I'm guessing I probably never will aside from a card or 2. I only paid $1.04 for it. I think I only put a max bid of $1.50 because it was anyone I knew.

New Collection

I got a card on Monday, like I figured I would, but I didn't get around to posting it until today. I haven't received anything else so I will be caught up after this post.

I won this card for $.25/shipped but after a month of not receiving it, I filed a claim. After no response, ebay reimbursed me. A couple of weeks later, the card showed up in the mail with a note apologizing and saying she had a medical issue. I still went and put positive feedback. While I would have waited if she would have just emailed me and told me I'd get it late, I don't know what she was going through, if anything. I got the card, free at that, so I'm not going to complain.

Who is he and what collection does that go into? He pitched for Michigan and was drafted in the last few years. I have started player collections for all players going pro that played for Michigan. This is the first of this player collection and if he ends up not having but a few cards, I'll end up not keeping the collection. This is the beginning though and a refractor to start with.

2 cards and a coin

I got lazy again, I had gotten 3 envelopes with 3 cards, sorta, but I got them on Friday and I just never got around to posting them because I had a somewhat busy weekend. I ended up with today off work so you're getting this post earlier than the norm and if I get more cards later this afternoon, you might get those tomorrow.

I thought I already had this as I had an 1990 Upper Deck listed but apparently he has 2, the other being him in a Giants uniform towards the end of the set. I picked this up for $.17/shipped. It is my 113th card of the Kid.

I also managed to pick up this coin from Topps of Mike Schmidt. I really wasn't expecting this just because coins are more rare and they end up going for over a quarter. I got this one just under a quarter at $.23/shipped. It is my 122nd card (sorta) of Schmidt.

I was happy to grab this as I don't get to pick up to many Konerko's anymore, especially a newer one since he retired. This is from 2017 Archives and I got it for $.23/shipped and it is my 441st different Konerko.

9 cards, 2 relics and an auto

I had a busy day today with 9 cards coming in. It all came in 2 envelopes though since 6 came from one seller and 3 from another.

The first seller had a bunch of 2017 Topps and Update and I grabbed what Sox I could get as well as a couple of player collections.

The first 3 are all from the flagship and the Goldberg is from Update.  I picked up the Nate Jones for $.16/shipped, the Austin Jackson for a penny/shipped, the Adam Eaton for $.23/shipped and the Brad Goldberg for $.25/shipped.

I also managed to grab this Zimmerman, also from the update set. I picked this up for $.25/shipped and it is my 87th different Ryan Zimmerman card.

I also managed another Chris Sale. This is only my 2nd one in a non-White Sox uniform. I grabbed this one at $.23/shipped. It is my 130th different card of Sale.

I also managed a few more expensive cards from another seller.

I remember when the Sox were pretty high on this guy, or at least I recognize the name so I assume they were. I grabbed this autograph for $1.25/shipped.

You're not seeing double, I actually won both of these. I bid on both thinking I might win one but I managed to get them both. I paid $1.90/shipped and $2.13/shipped for them. I keep dupes of relics or I may ship one off to 2x3 Heroes if I ever get another package for him together.

New Years Stats

I didn't get any cards today but I figured I could put out a New Years post. I need something to do after that embarrassment of a bowl game. If you follow my other blog, you know that I like to keep stats and I keep a few that are sports and sport cards related.

We'll start with sports watched. To qualify as a game watched, I have to watch at least 3/4 of the game, which for the most part, I probably watched it all anyways.

#3 - Football (14 games)

Most of these were Michigan games, to be honest, the only one I can think of that wasn't was the Super Bowl. I just can't get into the NFL anymore. Not because of the whole kneel thing, but I just don't enjoy the games anymore. I actually stopped watching the season before.

#2 - Basketball (32 games)

Most of these are Michigan games as well but it's 2 different teams as I watch both the men and woman's teams. There might be a Bulls game in there once or twice but I couldn't tell you for sure.

#1 - Baseball (56 games)

Other than the White Sox, the only game I can think of would be the All-Star game that I watched. There might be a Michigan baseball game or two as well. I watch them when they are on but they don't broadcast to many.

As you can tell, I'm not one of those guys that watched sports over and over. I tend to watch my teams and that's about it. I'm sure my wife appreciates that. All those other than 1 football game were watched on TV. I also went to a Michigan football game as well.

I also kept track of how many cards for each collection I received over the past year. Here's that breakdown.

Tier 1 player collections

Paul Konerko - 22 cards
Tom Seaver - 8 cards
Billy Williams - 2 cards
Mike Hart - 2 cards
Dave Dravecky - 0 cards
Luis Aparicio - 0 cards

The Dravecky at 0 doesn't surprise me as he doesn't have a ton of cards but the Aparicio does. I figured I'd get at least 1 or 2. 12 of the Konerko cards came from 2x3 Heroes and Too Many Verlanders which is why it's so high.

Tier 2 player collection

Barry Larkin - 41 cards
Chris Sale - 17 cards
Carlton Fisk - 9 cards
Devin Funchess - 7 cards
Jim Abbott - 6 cards
Caris LeVert - 5 cards
Mark Buehrle - 5 cards
Mitch McGary - 5 cards
AJ Pierzynski - 4 cards
Jake Butt - 3 cards
Denard Robinson - 2 cards
Michael Jordan - 2 cards
Nik Stauskas - 2 cards
Ryan Glasgow - 2 cards
Shoeless Joe Jackson - 2 cards
Taylor Lewan - 2 cards
Tim Hardaway jr - 2 cards
Trey Burke - 2 cards
Amaro Darbo - 1 card
DeVeon Smith - 1 card
Jabrill Peppers - 1 card
Jake Rudock - 1 card
Jehu Chesson - 1 card
Jourdan Lewis - 1 card
Taco Charlton - 1 card
Bill Melton - 0 cards
Chris Getz - 0 cards
Glenn Robinson III - 0 cards
Joe Crede - 0 cards
Mike Martin - 0 cards

A lot of those are Michigan players who will end up losing the player collection status. If I don't end up with at least 10 cards in a couple of years, their cards are no longer player collections since a lot of the times, the go pro but don't get a lot of cards produced or they get dropped from teams.

Tier 3 player collections

Cal Ripken jr - 41 cards
Mike Schmidt - 23 cards
Carl Yastrzemski - 20 cards
Steve Carlton - 16 cards
Gary Carter - 13 cards
Johnny Bench - 8 cards
Ryan Zimmerman - 7 cards

I imagine these numbers will slow down once I get most of the 80's cards of these players (except Zimmerman).

I also kept track of my team and vintage collection pick ups.

Vintage - 410 cards
White Sox - 260 cards
Michigan - 23 cards

Again, a lot of those vintage pick-ups were probably 80's cards because I can always come across those cheap.

Also, this year, I've gotten over 9,300 of my cards listed on my spreadsheet.

I had to split it into 2 pics to show you a small sample. The black on the far left means I have posted it on its separate blog as well. The purple means I have used it on my random card from my collection on my Twitter account (sportobsession6).

I also posted over 10,300 cards posted on My Personal Collections blog. It's been slow going but I've been getting there. The links on the card numbers on the spreadsheets above go to the corresponding page on this blog.

I posted 132 posts last year, which other than 2012 when I was doing 3 a day for awhile, is average for the years. It was also an increase from the last couple of years so that was good. I think posting when I get the cards has helped instead of being lazy and posting when I get around to it.

That's all I got for today. The mail starts up again tomorrow (along with work, blah!) so we'll get back to regular posting.
