Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Newer and Older

My White Sox are on a roll so why not show off some Sox cards. That and that's what the random told me to show today. We've won 3 in a row, are over .500 after being right at .500 7 times already this year. The bats are finally coming alive. Kopech got the start today and as of the 3rd inning, we are up 8-1 already. We're currently in 2nd place in the division but we are only 1.5 back going into today. 1 game in the win column and 2 in the loss, we've played 1 more game than KC.

I picked up these awhile ago when I was trying to get 2017 team sets completed. Which these 5 did. That card in the middle is my 49th of Rodon, who just threw the Sox's 20th no-hitter.

Picked these up while looking at the base Bunt. I'm actually only a couple cards short on this team set as well. This is my 13th cards of James Shields.

These 5 also complete the 2017 Chrome set. I need to get back to buying Sox cards but I'm having so much fun going through my player collections. This is my 34th card of Fulmer, 22nd of Q, 33rd of Frazier and Reynaldo, and lastly, my 146th card of the current MVP.

Once I get close to my budget when shopping on Sportlots, I look to see which sellers I haven't bought at least 4 cards from and look through their inventory just to see if there's anything I need. That's what the following cards are.

I picked this up from 2015 Panini. It's my 10th card of our former manager.

I picked up these 1981 Topps Stickers from a seller. I only have 3 for the team set but I do enjoy getting these early 80's stickers. This is my 11th card of Lamar Johnson and my 10th of Wayne Nordhagen.

I picked up these 4 from the 1976 SSPC set. I know 2 aren't in Sox uniforms but they were listed as Sox cards on Sportlots and if you've used it, there isn't many pictures. It does have the Sox listed as their teams on the back so they would still get counted as Sox collection. In order of appearance up there, this is my 7th card of Ralph Garr, 3rd card Nyls Nyman, 10th card of Pat Kelly and my 11th of Jim Spencer.

Lastly, I picked up this Billy Pierce from 1979 TCMA. I was happy to grab this card as I don't have a bunch of him. This is only my 7th card of his and the majority of those are post career, as this one is.

If you want an update since it took me awhile to do this post, KC won again today and the Sox are up 4 in the 7th.

2017 Topps & more

Today, we're going to head back to the team collections. Tim Anderson says we're the best in the league, I hope they plan on backing that up. I know they play their first spring training game on Sunday but I haven't looked to see if it's on TV yet.

We'll start off this all Topps post with a great photo on a Chrome card. Chrome were just out of the budget range so this was the only one I picked up.

This Frazier was the last one I needed for the team set and I happened to stumble across his mini as well.

The A&G X set is different though, I'm only about half way on that team set even after getting these 3.

These 2 Archives also finish out that team set so I accomplished this with a number of 2017 team sets. Love the 1982 reprints.

While I didn't pick up any Bunt base, I did get these 2 blue parallels. They must have been all off my budget because it's a pretty decent sized team set at 9 cards and I only have 2.

There's only 4 in this team set and this card puts me 1 card away. I like the looks of the card, how it looks like he's stepping out of it.

This Stadium Club isn't the great photos that I enjoy, I like the action shots but it does complete the team set, minus the variation of Jose Abreu.

While everything above this photo are 2017, I did get a few more from 2018, all in one pic. All of these complete the various team sets, the gold is just a bonus. The Update is complete, again, minus the Abreu variation.

Busy Day

Spent most of the day in my card room scanning cards.

That's where I was when I started the day. Yes, I keep track. Technically, that's not how many images, that's how many cards, I need to change that heading. Most of the cards I scanned, I did front and back so I did twice as much scanning.

That's where I finished. So I finished 69 cards, I was counting the scans I was deleting off my laptop afterwards and I lost count just over 100 so even though it sounds like 69 cards doesn't seem like I did as much as it felt like, I feel like I was pretty productive.

On to today's post, the last of the White Sox posts for this round. More 2018 cards trying to finish team sets.

These 3 cards complete the flagship Topps set. Minus the many variations that is.

You'll notice this is the All-Star Game parallel by the stamp. I just happened to see it looking for the other cards so I picked it up.

The card on the left finishes off the Chrome team set, the one on the right is a refractor that again, I just happened to run across and it was the right price.

These 2 still leave me needing 2 more for the Holiday set. I can't really tell you why but I do like these holiday sets.

Last but not least, well, maybe it is, the Limited Edition cards. One thing this post tells you is just how much money Topps makes by making a new set and just putting a stamp on it. That doesn't include the millions of parallels on each set. It's a good thing I don't pay much for these cards.

Only a few more posts before I start the cards Dennis sent me, plus I'll mix in another Sportlots shipment. After I ship it that is.

Other Topps Sox

I just spent the last hour or so finishing up my Tier 1 collection purchases on Sportlots so next week I'll start on the Tier 2. I have the Colts/Bills game on but I'm really not paying much attention to it. I'm listening to music and I just glance up occasionally to look at the TV. I just don't really get into the NFL much anymore. I watch highlights when I hear a Michigan grad made a good play or something but that's about it. Let's face it, most of those highlights are Tom Brady.

I found this a week or so ago and kept forgetting to post it so I'll go ahead and throw it up here.

So many great players passed last year and we're barely a week in this year and we lose a great manager. I was a little shocked to see he passed and then I saw his age, I didn't realize he was 93. He's been around forever and it's awesome that other than one year he played with the Kansas City A's, he spent his whole career with one team. At least he got to see them win another World Series before he left. RIP Tommy Lasorda.

Today's post are more White Sox cards from 2018 but from Topps.

We'll start off with Allen & Ginter. The top 2 complete the A&G set for that year. The Frank Thomas collection is now at 543 cards.

I'm only half way (4 of 8) on the A&G X set though.

The top 5 cards of the Big League set complete the team set for me. I do like the looks of this set and hope it sticks around for awhile. That Carson Fulmer up top gives me 29 cards of him.

I just happened to run across these gold versions as well and added them.

This Finest card still leaves me 1 card short for that team set. That 1 card is a player collection so I'm sure at some point I'll pick it up.

I also like the Fire set but I could do without all the color parallels but they are pretty much a part of collecting now. The 2 above, leave me a card short of the team set as well. That is my 135th card of the MVP, Abreu.

These 2 cards leave me 1 short, again, of the team set but that last card is a short printed card of a player collection. The above cards of Reynaldo Lopez give me 24 of his, we're hoping for good things from him this year and maybe I'll get those numbers boosted as well.

I still need 3 cards to complete the Heritage set but all 3 of those are short prints and one of those is a variation short print. The above Avisail Garcia cards give me 36 cards of him. I thought I had more than that in the 6 years he was with us.

This Rodon leave me 1 short print short of completing that set but it's a short print variation card. This is my 46th card of the former Sox as they just released him after the 2020 season.

Last but not least, you can't go without having stickers. I'm still a few short of this team set even with the 5 above. The Derek Holland (3 cards) and Leury Garcia (9 cards) stickers are the first on this post of those players. The James Shields cards above give me 10 cards of him and the Yolmer Sanchez's give me 18 of him. Out of these 4 players, Leury is the only one still with the Sox.

Pre-Weekend cards

I came home to 5 envelopes, yes, 5. Technically 7 but the other 2 were a birthday card from work and my drivers license because I just had it renewed, but back to the 5. 4 of them were from Ebay purchases that had 5 cards in them. The other envelope was from Dennis that had a ton of cards in it which I haven't logged and scanned yet so you won't see those until next week because tomorrow I'm leaving for our annual Father's Day camping trip so I won't have time until probably Monday when I get home. I will post the other 5 right now quickly so I'm not really buried when I do get back.

I picked this Fulmer card up for $.19/shipped. Coincidentally, it is also my 19th card of our former top draft pick who keeps jumping back and forth from the minor to the pros.

I also picked up this James Shields, which is a gold version, for $.45/shipped. It is only my 2nd card of his.

I picked up both of these Engel autos from the same seller. Techically, I won a 3rd auto from that seller (different player) but it wasn't in the envelope. I tried to tell the buyer but Ebay won't let me contact him yet so we'll see what happened with that. I paid $2.25/shipped for the one on the right and $2.40/shipped for the refractor on the left. The nice thing is it wasn't even listed as a refractor (#'d /499) in the listing. These 2 cards make 6 that I have of Engel.

I did manage one player collection card and it's a former Wolverine at that. I picked up this 2019 of Larkin for $.35/shipped. It's my 189th card of the Hall of Famer. That'll probably go up with the cards Dennis sent me, I know I seen some of him in there as well.

Like I said, I'm out for the next 4 days so I will see you all on the flip side. Hopefully I'll post on Monday. Hope you all have a great Father's Day weekend, whether you're a Father or not.

Card catch up

I've got lots of cards to show you that have come in this week. I got a couple envelopes on Monday and a couple yesterday. Monday night I had a softball game and by the time I got home and ate, I wasn't really in the mood to even get online for very long. Then Tuesday I woke up with a summer cold and that has been kicking my ass the last few days. Today is a little better, hopefully tomorrow I will be 100% again to start off my long weekend. Needless to say, since I was getting my ass kicked, I didn't post any of the cards. I don't remember what came in what so I'm going to post by collections.

We'll start off with a couple of vintage pick-ups. I believe both of these were single pick-ups. I picked up the Dave Lemanczyk for $.24/shipped and the Mike Garman for $.22/shipped. These 2 cards put that set at 145 cards.

I would have guessed that I already had this one but apparently not. I had 2 other of his cards from that set (all-star and record breaker) but not the base but I guess I do now. I picked this up for $.16/shipped. This is my 8th card of his picked up this year and is my 107th card for the Kid Collection.

I also managed to grab another Cal Ripken jr card that goes to that player collection as well as the vintage collecton. I picked this up for $.25/shipped. It is my 334th card of the Ripken Collection and the 136th of the 1976 Fleer set. It's also my 24th addition to the Ripken Collection this year.

I also picked up 5 cards for the Mike Schmidt Collection and the top 3 also go to the Vintage Collection. I picked all these up from the same seller for the minimum bid of $.25/each/shipped. These 5 cards put that collection at 108 cards. The 1982 Topps set is now at 78 cards. The 1980 Topps set is at 158 cards and the 1986 Fleer set is at 77 cards. All of the above cards that were mentioned for the Vintage collection put that collection at 245 cards picked up so far this year and I've also picked up 12 cards for the Schmidt Collection.

For my last player collection, I grabbed this card for the Barry Larkin collection for $.25/shipped. This puts the Larkin collection at 125 cards total and 15 cards picked up so far this year.

I picked up this 3 card lot for $.66/shipped which equals to $.22 a card. I believe all 3 are from series 2 and they are my first from that series. I'm still a little ways away from completing the team set. These 3 cards put my White Sox collection pick-ups for the year at 195 cards.

Oddly enough, all these cards posted put me at an even 600 cards picked up so far this year for all my collections. It's not physical cards technically because some of the cards (like the 4 cards mentioned above) get listed in multiple collections so they get counted multiple times.
