Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Random PC Cards #67

My Wolverines are kicked out of the tourney. My White Sox have started 0-2 but they are winning so far today so we'll see how that goes. It hasn't been a good week but at least baseball is back. On the plus side, Big Ten network finally aired a Michigan baseball game so I got to watch Michigan beat Michigan State, at least in 1 sport.

I haven't made it anywhere to pick up any Gypsy Queen yet but I do plan on picking up at least a pack or 2. It's not one of my favorite sets so I probably won't pick up much and try to get most of the cards I need for my collection on Ebay. I was going to go and look around on Justcommons today but the website was down so maybe next weekend.

Oh yeah, I crossed 8 years that I've been doing this blog a couple of days ago. It isn't what I started it out to be, you know, high expectations and all but it is what it is now and it's still mine. It's still an accomplishment that I've stuck with it so long. Last year was the first year I didn't hit 100 posts and I was well below that. This year, I'm already almost at half of last years total so I'm definitely doing better. Posting every day I get something helps with that because when I let them build up and do one post, it's more work and I end up not wanting to do it. Either way, yeah me!

I haven't put out much this past week because I've only gotten a few cards in the mail so I figured I throw one of these up here.

15 cent Hall of Famer

I haven't posted since last Friday but not because I was lazy, like is usually the case, I actually didn't get any cards until today. Before I get into showing that though, I want to show you a conversation between my wife and I. When I go to lunch at work, I always text her and let her know because I don't always go at the same time. Her usual response is how are you or something to that effect and then we chat from there. Anyways, here it is.

Since you all are card collector's, you'll understand it. It was one of those funny (at least to me) texts but I couldn't really show it to most people since everybody would look at me and say, "I don't get it."

Now to the reason we are all here. I got 1 card in the mail today for a player collection.

I picked up this 2001 Topps Archives for $.15/shipped. This is my 4th card of Yaz that I've picked up this year already, I only grabbed 1 all of last year so I'm not sure why that is, but I'm alright with it. I'm pretty sure I've bid on this card multiple times and didn't win it and then I get it for $.15.

Classic Fisk

I got 1 card yesterday but I got to watching the Michigan game last night and forgot to post it but I didn't get any today so I'll lie and say I got it today.

I got 1 card today (I'm such a liar) and while it's my usual cheap pick up, it's a card I don't think I've ever seen before. I've seen the set but never this particular card and it's a Tier 2 player collection so I just suck.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the set, although not very often, but like I said, I've never seen this card. So to me, this was a great pick up for $.35/shipped. It's listed as a 1987 Classic Game card but I'm not sure if it's an actual game or not. The back looks fairly normal and not a game piece so I don't know.

Sox or not

I got an envelope in the mail today, always happy to get multiple days in a row with an envelope. Nothing terribly exciting but my lists shows I don't have either but it's also Bowman which is hard to keep logged so we'll see.

These are from 2014 and neither are with the Sox anymore. Hawkins is in the Cincinnati minors while Danish is playing for Seattle, or at least that's what a quick fact check says. I picked them both up for $.15/shipped/each.

2 Envelopes, 2 Players, 5 cards

As you can tell from the title, I got a couple of envelopes today. 5 total cards in those envelopes but 1 envelope only had 1 card. Both are tier 3 player collections.

I picked up this Mike Schmidt card for $.24/shipped. It commemorates his 500th HR. It is my 130th card of Schmidt. Even though it's a minor league set, there appears to be HOF'ers mixed in.

I picked up these 4 cards of Cal Ripken Jr from one seller, there was actually 5 but apparently I already had one. I really need to start looking before I bid. I won them for (in order they are pictured) $.50/shipped, $.31/shipped, $.38/shipped and $.25/shipped. These 4 cards put the Ripken collection at 429 cards and ever so close to taking over the 1 spot in amount of cards for a player collection.

2019 Heritage

I told you about a week ago that I bought a blaster of Topps Heritage, well I finally got the stuff ready for a post. I didn't get any dupes which is always good, but you've all seen the posts so you know what the cards look like. Here you'll see the cards I got for my team and personal collections.

These are the 4 cards I got for the White Sox Collection. I checked to see how many cards are in the team set. Let's just say a lot more but it's a good start.

I also got this for the Johnny Bench collection. Obviously this is from the Then and Now insert set.

I saw Opening Day is out now but I don't know if I'll pick up any of that in packs, I haven't really decided yet.

The Sox are back, on tv that is

Finally! I finally got to watch a baseball game. They finally aired the first spring game against the Cubs and while the Sox lost, I didn't care, I finally got to watch a baseball game. Besides, it's not like I'm not used to seeing the Sox lose these days. I'm pretty sure today's game recorded to but I haven't watched it yet. I was busy watching Michigan dominate again, I'm just hoping they can turn around and do it again tomorrow.

I got some cards in yesterday and I'm finally getting to them today. I'll be spending tomorrow watching Captain Marvel as well as the Michigan game but I also have to find time to put away cards because the old lady has been complaining about all the cards laying around on the table between our recliners.

I picked up this card and the next for the Baseball collection. This 1989 Topps card of Ramon Martinez came to me for $.06/shipped.

This 2018 Topps also came to me for $.06/shipped from the same seller as the Ramon Martinez card above.

I picked up this 1995 Topps for, hahahaha, I lied, you know I fooled you. This is actually a 2011 Topps 60 Years of Topps card because I was dying to have a reprint of the 1995 Topps. I got this for $.16/shipped.

I grabbed another 2019 Topps for my Sox team set. Minus all the damn short prints/variations, I'm down to needing 3 more for series 1 team set. I got this for $.23/shipped.

I did manage at least 1 player collection, I love this set because back when it was released, I collected but I was young enough that it was card to find older cards, let alone older cards of great players so I loved these back then. I grabbed this for $.50/shipped.

A Quicky

Another quick post because I'm sleepy, again. I've had a couple of busy nights and haven't slept well so there you go.

Another cheap pick on on Ebay for the baseball collection. Picked this 2014 Donruss for $.06/shipped.

Also picked up this auto of Dayan Viciedo who is no longer with the Sox but he was one of the many, next big thing for us but never panned out. He wasn't horrible but they ended up trading him away. I picked it up for $1.82/shipped.

Dodger Tuesday

I got my package of 2019 Heritage in the mail today. I've gotten them all logged but I haven't scanned yet so you don't get those today. All you get is one card to the baseball collection and a quick post, because it's late and I'm ready for bed.

This is my 34th card from 2016 Topps. I picked it up for $.06/shipped.

Not too bad for a Monday

I ordered a blaster of Heritage from Walmart.com. I hate going in there and my wife was buying some tupperware set for $15. You get free shipping for order over $35 so I told her to add a blaster on there. Of course, the blaster is $19.98 so that put the total at $34.98 which didn't qualify for the free shipping. Stupid Walmart. My wife ended up throwing something else on there we needed to get the free shipping. It says my cards will be here tomorrow so we'll see.

I did get 2 envelopes today with a few more cards. The first envelope had this.

I picked this up for the Zimmy Collection for $2.80/shipped. I like this years black frame around the mini relics, very slick looking.

The other envelope had all of the following cards.

This Kent Hrbek/Tim Laudner rookie (I haven't heard of the other guy) for the Vintage collection. I picked this up for $.25/shipped, it is my 116th card for the 1982 Topps set which is just under 15% completed.

I also picked up these 3 oddball cards for the Cal Ripken collection. I grabbed the Action Superstars for $.23/shipped. The SI for Kids for $.50/shipped and the 1983 Topps Sticker for $.43/shipped. Always love the early 80's stickers, reminds me of childhood. I decided to check TCDB to see where my Ripken collections stands, it is now my 2nd highest player collection and it's closing in on the Konerko Collection pretty quickly.

Last but not least, another Frank Thomas. I've been adding cards to TCDB and am just now realizing just how many of his cards I have. He is my highest non-player collection and is 3rd including the player collections behind Ripken and Konerko and I don't have all of his cards logged in yet. I picked up this relic for $3/shipped.

2 cards or 1?

I got an envelope with 2 cards in it although when I was logging them in to the TCDB and it said I already had one but I'll post it anyways and than delve deeper in and see if I actually do.

This is the card that I may already have. If I do already have it, I only lost $.20/shipped so I think I can afford it.

I did manage to win a tier 1 player collection which is rarer than you would think it would be. I grabbed this Seaver for $.40/shipped. If you haven't heard, he announced his retirement from public life because he was diagnosed with dementia so I send out thoughts to him and his family.

More Sox

Nothing to exciting today, a couple of cards for the White Sox collection came in one envelope.

Both these cards are silver so I'm not sure why the one on the left looks gold. I picked both of these 2014 Perennial Draft cards for $.23/each/shipped. I recognize both of their names but that's it so I'm guessing they haven't done much or they are in other organizations by now.

All Phillies Post

I got a couple of envelopes today. 2 envelopes with 3 cards.

I just happened across this one looking at the usual penny auctions. I ended up winning it for only $.16/shipped. It is my 186th card if the 1980 Topps set to put it at 1/4 of the way completed.

I also grabbed 2 more for the Schmidt collection. Both of these are from 1988, the Kmart card I picked up for $.32/shipped and the Donruss All-Star for $.21/shipped. These 2 cards give me 129 in that collection. It's my 2nd most cards of my Tier 3 collections behind Cal Ripken Jr who is way in front.
