Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

The Barry that did make the Hall

Today's post is one of those few players that is in my Tier 2 collection, but technically, could be in the Tier 2 Michigan collection as well. He's a Hall of Famer and a guy that Dennis and I share a mutual collection of.

All those people that got Christmas packages from Dennis knows where these cards came from. You'll recognize the Flair, Score and Finest cards. He also threw in a Leaf checklist that features Larkin.

My cousin found this going through some stuff and grabbed it for me. It's from Pinnacle in 1997. These suck to put in pages, I might figure something else out for it.

These 8 cards/coin put the Barry Collection at 691 cards.

LuBob Sunday

I actually got on Sportlots again today, I bought 153 cards for $43 which is a little more than a quarter a piece including the shipping to my SL Box. They were all (but 2) cards for my Tier 3 PC's as that's what I'm working through now. I purchased cards for all 7 collections so I guess we know what you'll see a bunch of in my next round of posts.

I picked up 3 more cards of LuBob. The top 2 were under a buck a piece, I paid a little more for the Chrome version of the Decades Next insert. I picked up all 3 of them at the latest card show we set up at. The top 2 came from the guy next to us and the other one was at the other side of the room but I bought some cards at 6 for $20.

These 3 cards push my Robert collection past 50 cards to 51, which is way more than I thought I'd have at the beginning of last year when they were so hard to pick up cheaply.

One for the road

Just a quick post tonight. I got up for work at 4 and had my mom's birthday party when I finished there so I'm beat and heading to bed soon. You can tell my age, I'm partying up on a Saturday night by crashing early.

Luckily the random gave me a 1 card post.

Dennis sent me this yellow Giolito in his Christmas package. I already have the base and the Holo Pink so this is my 3rd of this card out of probably 50 variations, I didn't count but we know how they do.

This is my 156th card of Lucas.

2 1/2 weeks. Maybe.

I'm working tomorrow so no card show. We weren't planning on going anyways because Sluggo has been scheduled for awhile because he has the next 2 weekends off. He's going back to North Carolina next weekend and we're doing a card show the following Saturday. We're talking about making a run to the Baseball Card Exchange on Sunday so we'll see.

Today's post is a star shortstop who hopefully gets to start spring training in a couple of weeks but that doesn't sound like it's going to happen.

I picked up these 3 cards of TA7 at the last card show we did. I tend to only shop at dealers that we conversate with and each of these 3 cards came from different dealers. The shiny Donruss is a pretty slick looking card.

These 3 cards give me 145 of Mr. Anderson.

Another game

I got an hour before the Michigan women's team plays tonight (against some team in Ohio) so I figured I'd get a post out. Plus I'm waiting on my son to bring home supper so I've got some time.

Only one card again but this time it's from Sportlots. It must of have been a seller that shipped too late from the previous package.

This card of Rashan Gary gives me 18 cards of him. It's my 1st and only card from 2021 so there should definitely be more cards out there to boost his collection.

A squeeker

I was going to type this out while watching the end of the Michigan game but it got too intense and I had to put my laptop down and concentrate on the game (yes dear, I know they can't hear me.) They pulled it out, barely. It was really impressive considering they lost both their big men in the last minute and a half.

Speaking of big men (different sport though). Although I just Googled and he's my height and about 40 lbs lighter so if he's a big man, I'm the fat man.

I grabbed this from Sluggo a few weeks ago. It's a nice card because one, he's in his Michigan uniform and two, it looks like an 1981 Donruss. While the '81 Donruss wasn't an impressive set, it was the year I started collecting so it does hold some sentimental value.

This card of Kwity is my 10th, 9th on TCDB because I can't get them to add another one that I have.

Taco Tuesday

The men's team seems to finally be on track and they picked a good time by beating IU. If only because it gives me bragging rites with the GM of our plant. I think he might be hiding from me though, I haven't seen him all week.

Today's post randomly fell on Tuesday which worked great for the title.

First up, we have the pro version of Taco. Lots of running photos.

A couple of Maize and Blue cards as well to go with the draft day card. Have I mentioned that I hate it when they take the wings off the helmet? Technically, there are other schools that use it (Delaware) so I wouldn't think it would be a trademark thing so why cut it out?

These all came in my previous Sportlots package.

Anyways, off my soap box for today. These 12 cards double my cards of Taco giving me 24 total of him.

Duncan Sunday

Michigan men's team is on in an hour or so, hopefully starting to right the ship so we might as well throw out a former Wolverine from basketball.

I picked up this extremely shiny Duncan Robinson from Sluggo. We picked up some basketball to add to our boxes for the shows and this was in there so I grabbed it.

Last I heard, Duncan was in the running for rookie of the year but that was a little awhile ago. I don't know if he's cooled down or not. This card gives me 9 of Duncan.

Lots of Cal

It was a slow day at work and I've been tired most of the evening, trying to catch up on some TV. Today's post is another icon.

I picked up a bunch of Cal that I figured I already had with that top row. Then we get into the other stuff, the next 5 are all smaller sets and the bottom right is the Gold Winners parallel.

More oddballs with the Fleer mini sets, some O-Pee-Chee and another Classic.

More of the same but the Donruss Canadian version is represented this time. I was surprised I didn't have the 1991 Bowman.

I also grabbed some more modern card of Cal, some with logos, some without.

Here's the horizontals as well. The middle 2 also go to the Vintage collection. Another Gold Winners on the bottom as well.

We don't sweat the small stuff either. Here's the smaller versions of cards and stickers that I also picked up.

All of the above cards came from my latest Sportlots shipment.

You know Dennis is going to have some Ripken's for me as well.

These 10 all came from Dennis at Too Many Verlanders in his annual Christmas package.

Lastly, I picked up this one in a dollar box at the card show this past weekend. I picked up enough and the dealer gave me a discount so it equaled out to only $.78.

These 54 cards give me 720 cards which puts the Ripken 1 card more than the Konerko collection for 1st place. I figured that would happen once I got to picking up Ripken's on Sportlots.

Is it Friday yet?

It's been a week, I'm ready to start my weekend.

Today's post is another football guy that I picked up at the card show last weekend.

I liked Nico and he was very talented but he opted out the 2020 season and went pro in 2021 so we missed out on at least a year more with him. He started in the pros his rookie season so that says something about the talent.

This is my 8th card of Nico, they are all of the Maize and Blue variety.

Purple Henry

I always enjoy picking up former Wolverines but I especially like running into former baseball Wolverines as they are a lot harder to come by so I'm alway happy to pick up some.

Part of the reason it's harder to find is the year they get drafted, they get Bowman cards and then you don't see anything for a few years until they make it to the pros. You might get some minor league cards in between. This is only my 5th card of Tommy Henry. I picked it up at the card show last weekend. I have 3 different versions of the Bowman and 2 minor league cards. Hopefully he'll make the pros soon so I can build a better collection.

Billy Tuesday

Today's post is the one Chicago Cubs in my collection. Well, technically, a couple of current Sox came from the Cubs (have to rub it in when I can), but this guy was with the Cubs for the majority of his career.

I only added one card but I also only added 1 card all of last year. I've been seeing Billy Williams getting more cards lately so I'm expecting that to go up this year.

This card gives me 105 cards of him.

Happy Birthday - Shea Patterson

Shea was born on this day in 1997, making him 25 today.

NFL Debut - none

Years Active -

  • 2020 (Chiefs)

I went ahead and listed the Chiefs but as you can see by the NFL Debut, he never played and was only on the practice squad.

Cards on TCDB - 435 cards

Cards I have - 12 cards

Cards I had at this time last year - 6 cards

Like I said, he hasn't played in the pros so all my cards are in Michigan uniforms so you'll get to see all of them on this post.

Where they came from -

  • Sportlots (4 cards)
  • Card Show-Shipshewana (2 cards)
  • Sluggo (2 cards)
  • Card Show-Ft. Wayne (1 card)
  • Card Show-Kalamazoo (1 card)
  • Card Show-Mishawaka (1 card)
  • Fred (1 card)

I do have 1 autograph of Shea.

Happy Birthday Shea!

*All cards show are in my collection but the photos/scans are from TCDB.
