Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Cheap Ebay purchase, lots of lots

I’ve been buying up any Sox/Colts vintage that I don’t have and that I can get for .50 or less.  Some oddball player collection cards at .50 or less.  And some relic/auto cards I can get for under $2.  Here’s some of what I received this week.

Before I get to my last of the ebay purchases this week, and apparently my last saved post.  I wanted to thank all of you who donated to the MS Society for our walk and a thanks to Dennis who posted on his blog about it.  You guys are awesome.  We posted it on our Facebook pages, and didn’t get hardly anything.  I posted on my blog and you guys came through.  So a big thanks to all of you who have donated.  And if you missed that post, it’s right here.  Now, on to the post.

This is my last cheap ebay purchase for this week.  I haven’t shopped too much on ebay this week so I may not have much for next week.  But as you can tell, I went all out on the lots this week.  I have a lot for each of the teams I collect in today’s post.

ebay06

Peyton Manning – 4 card lot.  .99/shipped.  Funny story about this lot, it was a free shipping lot so it came in a PWE, or rather, it didn’t come but I got a little notice on my door about a postage due envelope at the post office.  So I went in and picked this up and paid $1.73 to get it.  I got home and took pics of the envelope and my receipt and sent the guy a message and told him what happened.  I told him I took photos of everything before I opened and I could send those to him.  He didn’t seem very happy and asked for the photos.  Which I can guess because he probably figured I was pulling some scam on him.  But after he received the pic he was more than happy to refund my money.  I had told him I didn’t mind paying it but couldn’t give him positive feedback if I did.  I just can’t see giving someone a negative comment over a few bucks.  But he refunded it so all was good.

He probably wasn’t happy at all considering it cost him over $2 to ship and I only paid $.99 for the cards.  He said he wasn’t happy about it but it was his fault so he would pay for it.

ebay05

This was a 21 card lot, there are 18 here and 3 dupes.  But I only had 1 card from the 1986 team so for $.42, I bought it anyways.  Funny story, again.  Same story for the most part.  This also came postage due of $1.07.  I told him the same thing but since there were 21 cards, I told him I didn’t care what he did.  If he refunded the shipping cost I paid, then I would leave positive feedback but I told him I didn’t care one way or the other and I wouldn’t leave a negative either way as well.  Again, I can’t see leaving a negative for $1 mistake.  He seemed at odds and I probably could have gotten the refund, but I told him that I truly didn’t care.  I still paid less than $2 for 18 new cards to my collection.

I hadn’t run into this with all the buying I’ve done on ebay and then I end up with it twice in the same week.

ebay04

This was just a 6 card lot that I won for $.06.  Eventually I’ll get all 3 of the Michigan lots together and see if I have some dupes for Dennis, I still owe him quite a bit of cards.  I did look at the LCS for a hit for him when I went looking for prizes for my last contest but they didn’t have anything yet.  Just so you know I hadn’t forgotten you.

Update and a Plea

Just a quick post, I plan on working on my Google docs lists today. I may be able to get the have for trade list done. Then I need to do my PC lists. If your waiting on a package from me, check your email, I’m still waiting on a couple of addresses. I plan on hitting the post office tomorrow afternoon.

Also wanted to post this. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here, but my wife was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis a few months back. I won’t get all into the details but in September we are doing a walk to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Probably won’t walk real long because of my wife’s MS but she really wants to do it. I know a lot of us don’t have any money, but if you can spare even some change, go to the MS site, and donate towards team Laws. Every little bit helps. If you prefer, you can paypal (jccsst-ebay at yahoo dot com) me some money or send it to my home as well. If you prefer that, then let me know (jccsst1022 at gmail dot com) and I’ll get you my address.

That’s it for my plea, I promise to go back to posting sports related with the next post.

Photo Cleansing #9

For those that are new around here, I save photo’s I like as I go through blogs and when I get a few, I’ll post them here for your enjoyment. And it takes less space storing them here then on my computer.  Here we go.

All baseball in this issue.  Some new, some old.  First up – White Sox

sports08

I love these ads.  The advertisement team for the White Sox has been great for the last 6-7 years.  Their slogans have been good,  Although, this years “All In” hasn’t panned out.  They are only half in, which explains the .500 record.

A little video to go with the photos.  Gotta love the trick plays when they happen to pros.

Cool graph thingy of all the uniforms of all MLB clubs in 2011.

He was a bad ass, and has the records to prove it.  Pretty sure this wasn’t after he pummeled Robin Ventura.  Maybe if his fist was bleeding.

sports02

Don’t know my Red Sox players enough to know who Nomar taped up.  Kinda looks like Pedro but I don’t know.  But it’s pretty funny.  I’ve always said that baseball players have more fun than any other sports.

Cheap Ebay purchase 3

Won another Michigan lot, I’m sure a couple of you are happy to see Wolverines instead of White Sox, Dennis & Dustin I’m sure.  I said earlier in the year and it says up there at the top that the post would determine what I post about.  Well, it’s that time of the year.  About the time this publishes, we should be a little over a week away from Michigan football.  Had a chance at tickets for the season opener, but I had just bought some White Sox tickets for the week after and couldn’t afford to do both.  If I hadn’t already purchased the Sox tickets, I probably would have taken the Michigan tickets.  Oh well, such as my life.

* UPDATE – I am now going to the opener on Sep 3rd against Western Michigan (found out today) and also Sep. 24th against San Diego State (also found out today) along with the 1 game a year I get which is Nov. 19th against Nebraska.  Looking forward to seeing the Nebraska game, not looking forward to the fact that I’ll probably freeze my ass off.

ebay03-01

This was just a small sampling of the football cards in the lot.  Some great players up there.  Lots of a little older cards in this lot.  But how can you pass them up either.  I was going to try to get Desmond Howard’s autograph about a month ago when he was here for his college football HOF induction.  But I wasn’t about ready to drop $75 for it.

ebay03-02

This is all the basketball and baseball that was included.  I collect any sport in Michigan Uniforms so these were welcomed to the collection as well.  Really liked the Fab 5 cards, that was when I really started to follow Michigan athletics.  I was huge into basketball back then, much more than baseball or football.  Now, baseball and football are back on top.  With basketball a distant 3rd.  I can’t get into basketball anymore, at least NBA.  I can still watch college basketball.  NBA has just way too many selfish players anymore.  It’s all about the players, not the team.  It sucks.

Also like the Jim Abbott.  I followed him back before I knew he went to Michigan because my father had his arm amputated just above the elbow in his fight with cancer.  He loved baseball (Die hard Cubs fan) and he loved to bowl.  He taught himself to bowl left handed after having his arm amputated and got to be pretty good at it before he got too sick to do it anymore.  So I followed Abbott’s professional career back in the early 90’s.

After watching the White Sox last night, I think I’m officially out of hope for this team.  I’m tired of this rollercoaster, win 5 straight, lose 5 straight.  It’s no wonder we’ve been sitting around .500 all season and can’t seem to get over it.  Apparently that’s the kind of team it is.  Konerko is the only player who has performed day in and day out all year round.  Other players have had their hot streaks but other than Konerko, nothing.  I was so excited about this year, not anymore.  I will still cheer for the Sox and I’m still a huge fan, and I still plan on going to the game in a couple of weeks, but I’m tired of getting my hopes up and then crushed.  It’s been that way all year.  Up and Down.  If I had cash on me, I would have paid the Tigers fan at work my bet money on who would have the best record at the end of the year.  The players seem like they’ve quit so I might as well too.  Good thing college football is right around the corner.

Score!!!!

Cheap Ebay purchases 2

I had this all typed up elegantly with lots of thought, and my Windows Live apparently ate it.  So you get the short version, the next post also got ate so it’ll be short too.

This is a Michigan lot I got an ebay.

ebay02-01

My Michigan collection is getting a huge boost this week.  This lot also came with 3 cards that were in pro uniforms that I gave to Dennis at “Too Many Grandersons” at the Michigan Fan Appreciation Day trade.  I really like the newer Wolverine cards because I’m more familiar with them then I am the older players.  I’ve always been a fan but didn’t really follow intently until the last 10 years or so.

ebay02-02

Um, this was a 20 card lot, but I show 19 and I gave 3 to Dennis.  Bonus cards!  Can’t complain about that.  Wish I would have noticed that when I left feedback instead of my usual “Thank You!!!  Great Transaction!!!”  See, it works both ways, as a buyer or a seller.  That and it’s already programmed to fill in, just double click the line and bam, it’s there.  OK, so I’m lazy too, but at least I leave feedback.

Down goes Frasor!!!

That's what was going through my head when Ozzie brought out Jason Frasor in the 9th last night.  The Sox deserved to lose that game.  Errors, bad baserunning, bad execution in the field, they definitely deserved to lose.  But in the 8th, Paul Konerko gets his 2000th career hit and ties the game at 4.  That was the Angels mistake.  Pitching to Konerko with a runner in scoring position, 1st base open, and the struggling Rios on deck.  Ask the Angels fan here at work, he was pissed.

Frasor comes in the 8th, can't throw an offspeed pitch for a strike.  Barely gets out of the inning, stranding a man on 1st and 3rd.  Now I don't know much about Jason Frasor, and I understand how a pitcher can have a bad outing.  He did good to get out of the 8th.  But why does Ozzie bring him out to pitch the 9th.  All the Angels had to do was sit on his fastball.  And I wouldn't be upset as much when he came in to start the 9th, but how the hell is he still in there after they load the bases, with 1 out.  Matt Thornton was warmed up in the 8th and 9th.  Why wasn't he brought in at any point of this inning.  This isn't the same Matt Thornton that was supposed to be our closer and sucked.  He has been great the last couple of months.  Last I heard, and it may be over now, but he had a consecutive scoreless innings pitched at 20+ innings.  Why? Why? Why?

So yes, we sucked.  Yes, we deserved to lose.  But I blame Ozzie, because after all that, we were still in it and had a chance.  But Ozzie didn't give us the best chance to win and that is his job.  The Angel fan here at work thanks you Ozzie.  But I sure as hell don't.

Cheap Ebay purchases

I’ve been buying up any Sox/Colts vintage that I don’t have and that I can get for .50 or less.  Some oddball player collection cards at .50 or less.  And some relic/auto cards I can get for under $2.  Here’s some of what I received this week.

I’ve got a few cheap ebay pickup posts, I’ll start with these 4 cards.  And I’ll spread out the rest in later in the week, possibly tomorrow.

ebay01

Tom Seaver – 1981 Topps Coca-Cola

Tom Seaver – 2009 TriStar Obak

Paul Konerko – 2005 Upper Deck ESPN Sportscenter jersey

Pat Kelly – 1975 Topps

One of these days I might get around to finishing my Google Spreadsheet and then take the time to compare if I have any team sets.  There are a few vintage sets that I have quite a few of, don’t know if I have team sets are not but I would think I might be close.  Also some of the newer sets as well.  Is there a website that you use that have team checklists for the sets?  Or do you have to go through a checklist of the sets and figure it out yourself?

Lineage blaster #2

Before I get to this post, let me just say how much I love the Google Reader app on my phone.  I got stuck at the airport picking up my daughter due to her plane being a little over an hour late so I loaded up and read your blogs.  It’s so nice to be able to read them outside of my home when I’m bored.  Plus it cuts down on the time I spend reading them at home and maybe I can get some list done.  Speaking of, I’ve been getting a have for trade list on google documents, I know some of you use this.  Do you have to pay to make it visible?  I assume it’ll have a web address so I wondered if they charged you webspace, so to speak.  Some of you won’t like it because it’s in team order, but I plan on trying to keep up the Zistle for those that like to look at a set list.  If I ever get it updated that is.  But I am up through the Phillies in alphabetical order so maybe one more weekend and I can get it done.  I’m going to scan some of the hits and inserts in a trade bait page eventually as well.

But back to what you’re here for.

This is my 2nd blaster break of Lineage, there will probably be more being I like this set.  But I said that last post so here’s the cards.

blasterbreak01-04

More Yankees, shocker!  I am glad to see Thurman Munson get more cards though.  I like the McCovey with the cup as well.  The Stan Musial on the top right is a cloth sticker.

blasterbreak01-01

Johnny Damon (Platinum Diamond), Josh Johnson and Willie McCovey (Diamond Anniversary)  I liked the McCovey card above, I really like the sparkly one.  I only got one sparkly in the last blaster, don’t know the odds but more is always better.

blasterbreak01-06

Jeremy Hellickson (Rookies) and Andrew McCutchen (Venezuelan)

blasterbreak01-02

Cole Hamels and White Ford (‘75 mini’s).  I only got one mini in the last blaster as well.  So I’m getting more inserts in this blaster.  Maybe I can get more hits as well.

blasterbreak01-03

Well look at that, I got a ‘52 reprint autograph along with my relic.  Never heard of the guy but it’s still a great card.  I like these ‘52 reprint auto’s.

All the above are for trade, the below are not.

blasterbreak01-05

The cards for my collection, although the Ramirez is a duplicate so that will be for trade as well.  I like the Aparicio for obvious reasons.  Was hoping to get a Konerko.  Maybe next time.

Definitely did better on my 2nd blaster, a couple more inserts and the auto.  Although I have yet to get a popup, not that I have a great desire to have one, but I just noticed I didn’t.  I’ll eventually get the base added to my have list for you set collectors but if you want me to look at your list to see if I have anything you need, just let me know.
