Sox and more

I dropped off previous sorting at my LCS a week ago and he gave me some more stuff to sort. I was in his shop when Kevin text and said we weren't going to the show on Saturday so I grabbed some more to sort since I'd be home. I started it Friday when I got home and finished Saturday afternoon. There was a book of pages and a lot of cards in penny sleeves which is a pain because I have to take them all out. That probably took more time than all of the sorting. I went through a lot of baseball, some football and a real small stack of basketball but I only ended up with more baseball for myself.

We'll start with the older White Sox cards that I got. There was quite a mix of stuff in this sort as you see the above cards. That is my 109th card of Carlos Lee and my 192nd of Mags.

These are the shiny newer cards. Well, except the Colas, it's not shiny but he's a player I've been picking up cards of lately because I'm hoping for good things. The Keuchel is the Prism Refractor. 

There was also a ton of these Chrome Platinum Anniversary. I didn't realize how many cards were in the set because I figured I was getting close to the team set until I looked these up. I was wrong, these 4 give me 14 but there's 31 total. That's my 238th card of Tim Anderson and my 279th card of Abreu.

Then getting into the player collections, I got one Tier 3 of Gary Carter. The scan doesn't show but it's a pretty shiny card itself. This is my 350th card of the Kid.

Some more platinum anniversary Sox cards but both PC's. That's 233 cards of Moncada and 213th of Eloy.

1 more, same set, different team. I also found this Larkin to add to that PC.  This is my 749th card of Larkin.

As I said above, there was quite an assortment of cards.

I also found 6 cards to add to my 1971 Topps set. As you can see, they are in pretty good shape as well. These 6 give me 204 cards which is good for just over 27% completed.

Even better than the 1971's were these 4 from 1969. They give me only 71 from the set which is just over 10% completed.

The temps dropped below 0 for the first couple of days this week and they cancelled work so I'm working tomorrow to make it up so I'm not sure when I'll get back to my LCS to exchange cards. We have the show that got cancelled last week on Saturday as it got moved so it might have to wait until next weekend.

Trade from Dennis

I got all my cards logged and scanned. I had to scan 4 of them to the TCDB as well. I ended up adding 84 more cards to my collections from the sorting I did on Saturday. That's a lot more than usual. I'm usually lucky to get in double digits.

Today's post, however, is cards that I came home from Kalamazoo with. I didn't even buy any but not because I didn't try. I saw a 1962 Billy Williams card right across the aisle from out tables but the dude wanted $60 for it. That's way overpriced. Anyways, Dennis of Too Many Verlanders came to the show and brought a package. 2 packages actually, he gave Kevin one as well. Let's get to it.

Dennis and I share quite a few PC's, mainly because of Michigan guys but we also share a few outside of that. Like Ripken up there. He sent me these 5 that I didn't have (and the pin below that I forgot to scan with the above). He gave me a couple old and a few new. Since I'm already on my Tier 3 PC's, he also gave me that Liberty Carter as well as 3 more Zimmerman's. That Zimmy relic on the left is my 13th relic of him. and just the first hit of this package. I had never seen the middle card, it's listed as a Walmart card, I would have never guessed that with the 205 on it. Also a red framed Masterpieces.

Fun Pack Pin

These are all mutual collection as well as they are all former Wolverines. All 3 are color parallels as well. Although the top 2 don't have a color in it, they are called Premium Press Proof. I really like the Purple Cronenworth rookie.

For the 2nd hit of the package, Dennis sent me this winter Relic of Tim Anderson (at least it's not a Christmas Sweater relic). I like the card that can be torn into 3, I don't remember what set back in the day did that, pretty sure it was a basketball one. I didn't even know they did new ones. It's got Eloy, Robert and Abreu which were the core players that year. The Blue Archives of Fisk is numbered to 199.

He sent me a number of White Sox collection cards as well. This is just some of them. I put the top left 4 as they are all Refractors of some kind. I put the Abreu and Frank Thomas' just because I have a lot of both players. I've definitely never see that promotional one with an autograph (not real).

A couple of oversized cards. I have some of the game cards in my Seaver collection but I don't think I had any of the Sox ones.

These are the other hits that Dennis sent, and an insert. I included the Raines insert on this scan just because it's a really cool looking 90's insert. I thought I had the Garland relic but I have the base and this is the white version, it's also #'d to /99. I didn't have any autos of Zack Burdi as well so that's new to me. I don't believe he's even in the organization anymore. The big hit is that Magenta printing plate in the bottom left. As with all plates, it's a 1/1. I now have 3 printing plates in my collection and all 3 have come from Dennis. It's of the 2011 Topps Gyspy Queen Carlos Quentin.

Kid Mag

Heading to Fort Wayne tomorrow for another card show. Michigan plays at 3:30 so I probably won't make it home on time to watch it but that's what the DVR is for. I'm currently waiting on the basketball game to start. I like that basketball has started, more sports to watch. I love football but I hate that they only play once a week. I understand it, just don't like it.

Today's post has nothing to do with the above, but I loved picking it up for a buck. I was at the LCS and he had some plastic tubs with various things in it. On the top was the following and I had to grab it.

It was a bonus that the cover was a PC of mine. I loved these in elementary school. I used to check them out all the time from the library and would read them cover to cover. If I was rich, I would collect them all, that's how much I loved them growing up. He gave it to me for a buck, more or less a throw in with all the cards Sluggo was buying.

300+

Sox pulled out a game in Houston last night. I checked the score before going to bed and they were down 2-0 in the 8th and I went to bed. I woke up to check the score and they scored 4 with 2 outs and nobody on. To be honest, I was expecting to get swept because we've struggled and Houston has been really good so I'll take the win.

Today's post is a Tier 3 player and one of my all-time favorite catchers. I was a Mets fan as a kid so I followed him through the 1986 World Series. I got a lot of cards of him, all from Sportlots so I'm just going to throw them all out there.

These 63 cards get the Kid collection up over 300 with 312. He becomes the 8th player collection (9th player overall) with over 300 cards.

The Kid Collection

I got all my stuff logged in from the card show. Saturday was a little busier than Friday but it was still pretty slow. Our next show is the Saturday before Valentine's Day, we're heading back to Plymouth. It's a smaller show but it's established so it has pretty good foot traffic.

I didn't post yesterday because I hadn't logged in all my stuff from the show and then when I went to post today, the player that came out on top, I didn't get any new cards of, go figure. I picked up at least 1 card of all my Tier 3 players, except this one. I did get some from other sources though.

I picked up a bunch of stickers as you can see. I love the stickers and the Expos uniforms.

All of those top 2 rows, except the top left card also go to the Vintage collection which means I'm surprised I didn't already have them. The bottom 3 however, didn't surprise me as they are kind of oddballs. I really like the Kellogg's and it's not even curved like a lot that I see.

I even got some oversized cards. I showed the top one of Schmidt earlier and mentioned I had others. The bottom card was the only oversized of that year that I picked up. The above 18 cards were all from Sportlots.

But wait, there's more...

Dennis also sent me this 2021 Donruss (1987 look-a-like, sorta). I already have the holo red and the Independence Day but I didn't have the plain ole base card, until now. Thanks Dennis!

These 19 cards put the Kid Collection at 168 cards.

Lots of defense to no defense

 I'm currently watching the Michigan/Minnesota game and the Gophers are slowly pulling away so I figured why not post on the blog to make myself feel better. While these are basketball cards, they are former Wolverines.

I only have 1 card to show of Devin Bush because I had a few scans saved but realized I already posted the others so this is the only one left. I grabbed this from Sluggo while going through the NFL cards in my basement. This is my 13th card of Bush.

The first scan of Rashan Gary are my latest from Sportlots. A couple of Wolverine cards along with a bunch of pro. It was nice to get this many because I hadn't come across a ton when I looked for him earlier in the year.

These 3 were more pick-ups from Sluggo. While the majority of the boxes in my basement are from the 90's, there were some newer stuff mixed in there which is where these all come in.

I picked up this red parallel of XR at the card show in Kalamazoo. As you can see, it's numbered so I probably payed a buck for it.

I also managed to pick up an autograph of Rashan at my LCS. He gave it to me for a couple of bucks because he never heard of him. Works for me. It's my 2nd auto of him, both are Prizm but along with this one, I have the draft picks set auto as well.

These 12 cards bump of my Gary collection to 17 cards.

A top row of Wolverines followed by some Raiders gear of big Moe Hurst. These 7 cards were in the latest shipment from Sportlots.

I also picked up this shiny card of Moe at the card show in Kalamazoo.

I also picked this auto at Baseball Card Exchange. We all know I'm not a big fan of these cards, no uniform of any kind if just cheap looking but it's an auto, and I needed it. Plus, it's my first auto of his.

These 9 cards put me at 20 cards of Hurst.

Now that I'm done with this post, I've realized 2 things. All of these players are defensive players and the Michigan basketball team had no defense tonight. Sigh!

Kid backstop

Watched the Sox win against the Cubs today. I've seen both of the pitchers that we got from the Cubs give up HR's to lose a lead. The game I went to last Friday night, Tepera gave up a solo shot in a 1 run game in the 8th. Luckily the Sox scored 2 in the bottom of the inning and ended up 6-4. Today, Kimbrel gave up a 3 run home run when we were up 4-1 in the 8th to tie it up. We ended up winning it 8-6 in the 10th so needless to say, they haven't impressed me as of yet.

Today's post is a tier 3 collection of a HOF catcher. Both cards came from Sluggo, the first was purchased for me at the National, the 2nd was at a LCS.

I threw this in a stack of cards that Sluggo was getting for the shop at the National. It was only $4, relic and numbered to /200, not a bad deal at all.

Now that is a nice card. We were at the LCS and he picked this up, I assumed for the store but when we got to the car, he handed me a couple of cards, this was one of them. Surprised me, but I'm not saying no. 2 relics, an auto and it's numbered to /50.

the Kid Collection

Just 1 card today, but it's a Hall of Famer.

Fred sent me a home with a box (Columbia House box if you can believe that) with a bunch of his cards in it. I went through and took what I wanted. You've seen some of them already but I grabbed this for my Gary Carter Collection. I asked him if he wanted the box back, any sentimental value, he said no. So when I took his cards back, I transferred them into actual card boxes just to help him out. I also gave him a box full of penny sleeves and top loaders which is why he still brings me cards.

He popped in my office today and we were talking cards. It's nice to have those conversations at work. It's rare to even talk baseball there, let alone cards so I've definitely enjoyed him getting back into cards.

Back to the card, this Turkey Red gives me 140 cards of the Kid.

the Kid Collection

Only 2 more posts left for 2020, 1 more after this one. I got my Sportlots package logged but I still have to scan them but I got a few days until the new year.

Today's post is another deceased HOF'er but he didn't pass this year. Actually 8 years ago but it doesn't seem like it was that long ago.

2 playing day cards with a modern card. That modern card is a pretty spectacular, it's always good to see a photo that hasn't been used. All Mets cards too which I like but I have to admit, I like seeing the Expos jerseys as well. These 3 came from Jeff again, they give me 139 cards of the Kid.

the last June cards in July

Here we are on the last day of the month, and the last post of the month. Funny how that worked out. Not really, I crammed the last 3 in the last 3 days to make it. This last post is a bunch of random players that I had left.

These 2 Gary Carters came from Dennis. I have seen the 3-D cards, I have 1 of Tom Seaver but that's it. As for the Boardwalk and Baseball card, I had never seen those. I clicked on the link on the TCDB and it was an interesting read. I had never heard of the place and definitely had never seen the cards. Here's the link. Along with the Fisk mini's from yesterday. Dennis sent me a couple of cards that I have never seen. That's never a bad thing.

I got to add a couple of this former Wolverine and White Sox as well with a purchase from Cardbarrel. I liked him as a White Sox, I learned he went to Michigan and liked him more. Last I heard, he was in charge of Player Development for the White Sox so how can you not like him. These 2 cards only give me 32 of him, I really should get some more.

I also got to add 2 more to the Beltin' Bill Melton collection. I only have 16 of him but according to TCDB, he only has 66 and all but 7 are from his playing days and out of those 7, 4 of them are buybacks so technically they are also from playing days. I picked up these 2 on Sportlots.

Dennis sent me my 117th card of Zimmy, although technically, it isn't card, it's a sticker and a floating head sticker at that. 

Dennis also hit our mutual collection of Ripken with the 2 cards above as well as the SI poster. I do enjoy those Sports Illustrated sets and I would have hung the Sox schedule up back in the day. 

With all the stuff Dennis sent me last month though, this was the biggest surprise.

This book partially explained the huge package I got from him. I think that's a book, it's been a long time since I've read one that wasn't on my Kindle but now I'm going to have to because I definitely need to read this.

On top of receiving the book, I have a chance at an auto card.

Does a facsimile count? I bet I won it and Dennis switched it out. You gotta keep an eye on him. Including this card, and the ones above, it gives me 534 cards of the Iron Man.
