Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Trade from Dennis

I got all my cards logged and scanned. I had to scan 4 of them to the TCDB as well. I ended up adding 84 more cards to my collections from the sorting I did on Saturday. That's a lot more than usual. I'm usually lucky to get in double digits.

Today's post, however, is cards that I came home from Kalamazoo with. I didn't even buy any but not because I didn't try. I saw a 1962 Billy Williams card right across the aisle from out tables but the dude wanted $60 for it. That's way overpriced. Anyways, Dennis of Too Many Verlanders came to the show and brought a package. 2 packages actually, he gave Kevin one as well. Let's get to it.

Dennis and I share quite a few PC's, mainly because of Michigan guys but we also share a few outside of that. Like Ripken up there. He sent me these 5 that I didn't have (and the pin below that I forgot to scan with the above). He gave me a couple old and a few new. Since I'm already on my Tier 3 PC's, he also gave me that Liberty Carter as well as 3 more Zimmerman's. That Zimmy relic on the left is my 13th relic of him. and just the first hit of this package. I had never seen the middle card, it's listed as a Walmart card, I would have never guessed that with the 205 on it. Also a red framed Masterpieces.

Fun Pack Pin

These are all mutual collection as well as they are all former Wolverines. All 3 are color parallels as well. Although the top 2 don't have a color in it, they are called Premium Press Proof. I really like the Purple Cronenworth rookie.

For the 2nd hit of the package, Dennis sent me this winter Relic of Tim Anderson (at least it's not a Christmas Sweater relic). I like the card that can be torn into 3, I don't remember what set back in the day did that, pretty sure it was a basketball one. I didn't even know they did new ones. It's got Eloy, Robert and Abreu which were the core players that year. The Blue Archives of Fisk is numbered to 199.

He sent me a number of White Sox collection cards as well. This is just some of them. I put the top left 4 as they are all Refractors of some kind. I put the Abreu and Frank Thomas' just because I have a lot of both players. I've definitely never see that promotional one with an autograph (not real).

A couple of oversized cards. I have some of the game cards in my Seaver collection but I don't think I had any of the Sox ones.

These are the other hits that Dennis sent, and an insert. I included the Raines insert on this scan just because it's a really cool looking 90's insert. I thought I had the Garland relic but I have the base and this is the white version, it's also #'d to /99. I didn't have any autos of Zack Burdi as well so that's new to me. I don't believe he's even in the organization anymore. The big hit is that Magenta printing plate in the bottom left. As with all plates, it's a 1/1. I now have 3 printing plates in my collection and all 3 have come from Dennis. It's of the 2011 Topps Gyspy Queen Carlos Quentin.

Thanks for the great cards Dennis. It was great to see you again.

Last Weekend with Sluggo

I spent yesterday logging and scanning cards that I've received over the week so I can get those posts going again. Especially since I spent some time yesterday and all of today sorting boxes for the LCS and now have another small stack that I have to enter and scan tomorrow for another post. So much for not picking up more cards because our show got cancelled.

On to today's post, last weekend, Kevin and I did 2 shows, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Saturday he gave me a box of cards that he pulled for me and then on Sunday at the show, he bought some stuff and I picked through that. So that'll be todays post. Cards from Sluggo.

3 more Robert's and 2 Anderson's. 4 of the 5 cards up there are inserts and parallels. The only one that isn't is the winter Anderson. When I started collecting Robert, I had trouble picking his cards up because they were expensive so I'm extremely happy that his collection is nearing a milestone, I'll let you know when I hit it, or you can look on TCDB.

This collection (and the following) have been moving right along. Mainly because they are 80's and 90's players so I've been picking them up like crazy because there are a bunch out there. Kevin picked out these 10 cards of Doc and those almost put that PC at a milestone as well.

I divided these 3 scans by teams since Strawberry bounced around a little bit. 7 cards from the Mets, 6 with the Dodgers, 1 Yankee and 1 Giant.

This Liam Hendriks rookie got it's own scan because it's that great of a card. No, not really. I realized after I scanned all my other player collections that I forgot it. His cards have been harder to come by than I realized. I think he just doesn't get put in a lot of the smaller sets.

He also gave me a ton of White Sox cards, as you can see. I threw all the early stuff in one scan and the newer stuff in the 2nd.

These 8 cards of Frank are also part of the Sox collection as I don't PC him but I keep adding to his 1000+ cards.

He also gave me this pocket schedule with Frank on the front. This is the back and the front of it.

That's everything that he gave me when he picked me up for the Kalamazoo show on Saturday. On Sunday, he bought a box of Football cards from someone looking to unload it and I flipped through it to see if there was anything that I needed.

The 7 football cards in that scan all came from that box. The Wagner card was supposed to be in the following scan. All former Wolverines but only 1 in a Wolverine uniform. The Niko and Haskins are both rookies with the Haskins being an Astral parallel and the Lewan a blue press proof.

Kevin talked to the dealer next to us at the end of the show. He had some prices as marked cards and he got him down to half off if we bought bulk. I went through them and pulled a few things for myself as well.

These 5 (including the Wagner in the previous scan) was $16 so we got them at half off, for $8 but in the end, Kevin said I could just have them. I grabbed the Wagner because it's the blue parallel. I love the Joe Crede auto, I already have a few but he's my favorite 3rd baseman of all time. He was money in 2005. Plus I rarely get to add to his PC. As a matter of fact, this is the 1st Crede I've added this year. I picked up the Reyes because it was a Gold. I've mentioned a bunch of times how much I love the cracked ice parallel so the Tom Brady was a no-brainer, that is a sweet card. It goes into the Michigan collection but it's my 28th card of him in a Michigan uniform. Last but not least, he had a few Vintage in there, most of it was late 70's that I passed on (I would have grabbed them all if I had known I wasn't going to pay for them) but I wasn't going to pass up this 1964 Topps World Series card.

Lots of great cards up there. I have one more post of pick-ups from last weekend. I got them at the Kalamazoo show but not from the Kalmazoo show. If that's confusing, you'll just have to stay tuned.

A break for Sox

I got some time finally. There's been a lot of Birthday's lately and the days there isn't, I wasn't feeling it. I'm in a little better mood now since I have the next 3 days off work. The card show on Saturday got cancelled as well so I get 3 days at home, sleeping in. I did hit my LCS yesterday. I had to go to conference in town and it finished at 3 instead of my usual getting off work at 4:30. It was also right up the road from the LCS. I dropped off the stuff I sorted last week and since I had 4 days off, I went ahead and grabbed 4 3 row boxes of cards to sort so that's what I'll probably be doing for those 3 days. After I sleep in that is. I did pick up 1 card at the LCS so I'll get that logged and scanned tomorrow. Since I don't have it ready, you'll get another random post but this is a team post. Although they don't play much like a team which should tell you which team since I follow 2 and they are both at the complete opposites of the spectrum.

Fred at work gave these to me. I know some of them he picked up in a quarter box at the Shipshewana show. Some of the others he brought to me at work. I love the look of the cracked ice so you know I love the Sapphire set.

I got these from sorting packs. The flagship is series 2 as I've already completed series 1. The 4 Prizm are my first from the 2023 set.

All of these last 3 scans are list players that I sorted for the LCS. Hall of Famers are automatically on the list so Frank Thomas and Tim Raines are in and Bo Jackson and Sammy Sosa are popular players so they are on it.

The real announcement is with the addition of those 13 cards of Frank Thomas (and the one further above) I have officially hit 1000 cards of him. It's my first player to 1000 and it's not even a PC of mine, he just has that many White Sox cards. My official total right now is 1003.

These 6 cards are from Kevin. The top 4 came from a box he bought at the Mishawaka show, I skimmed through it and pulled some cards for myself. The bottom 2 are from his sorting of the LCS stuff.

Do you remember the Vintage stuff I picked up at the Plymouth show? I've already shown some of it, this was also on his table so I picked it up as well. I liked Madrigal before we sent him off to the Cubs plus it's a rookie auto and as I mentioned before, I like the Sapphire set.

I'll be back tomorrow with another birthday post before I finally get some time to post other stuff.
