Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

In my head

I only have 3 more players left in my November pick-ups that are current collections. But wait, there's more! I added 9 more player collections because apparently I didn't have enough. I added them in November when I was still sorting cards for Kevin so I'll show those off 1 at a time as well, then maybe I might make it to December's pick-ups. I do add to those posts when I get new cards so it's not as many posts as you think once I get through the new ones. For example, say I pick-up a card today of a player I collect. When I log them in, I look on my spreadsheet to see if I still have cards to post of that player and I add it to them. So it's not like you'll see that player get posted a bunch of times. It just makes for a longer post when his name comes up.

Take today's post, I have 4 different scans of the player which means since November, I have picked up cards of his 4 different times. Even though all 4 came from 2 places, they were at 2 different times from each place.

This scan of 4 came from Sportlots but I received it just after Christmas and I scanned and logged them just before New Years. That top right is the green variation, which you can see in the logo on the bottom left. The bottom right is the purple variation.

This came from Sportlots as well but I received it back in November which was the first card since I posted his previous so this dated November's posts. This is the dazzle variation.

Same with both of these, they both came from Sluggo. The green prizm on the right was back in November and the Illusions on the left was in December. Both were cheapies so I got them for free.

These 7 cards bump the LeVert collection up and over the 50 card mark at 51 cards. That keeps me in the #2 slot on TCDB with over 30 cards to go and puts him as my 4th highest basketball player collection.

I post enough that I can't help but combine posts but I do like the format of a player per post as it helps me posts pretty often but I don't feel obligated (except birthday posts) so if I decide to take a day or 2 off, I don't feel bad. I do know if I take a lot of time off, I get out of the habit and stop posting so this helps with that. I did have 304 posts last year. The first time I hit over 300 since 2012 and I did multiple posts a day for awhile that year.

More expensive but worth it

Today's random post is one I'm always happy to make. I don't get a ton of his cards anymore and am always grateful when I find one, let alone someone sends one to me. He's my favorite player of all time.

I picked this up at my LCS. He had $4 on it but when it was all said and done, I ended up only paying $2 for it. It looked familiar but I was showing I didn't have it. Come to find out, I have the Jermaine Dye from the same set.

I picked up this relic from Sluggo that he picked up at a show for me. I paid $15 which is way out of my price range but he picked it up for way more than that. I don't know how well you can see the serial number but it's the purple variation so it's numbered out of /7 which is why I went ahead and paid that much.

These 2 relics give me 740 cards of PK and is my 20th relic.

Schmidt with a side of Rice

Sluggo and I went over to our LCS and put in a little work sorting cards. I came home with a stack for myself as payment so I'll probably spend time tomorrow logging and scanning cards.

Today we got another tier 3 collection, or is it Vintage collection. Actually, it's both but it's only 1 card.

I grabbed this while sorting cards for Sluggo (I guess I have to say for who now). I was surprised I didn't already have it but I didn't. I know it's nothing fancy but it was a need regardless.

This is my 282nd card of the HOF 3rd baseman. Not really too far from 300. Hopefully by next year, hehe.

2022 Revisited

I decided I was going to spit out a end of the year post, you all know I love my stats.

First, we'll start off with my player collections. Because I started using Sportlots in 2021, these collections have been boosted quite a bit. We're here for 2022 stats though, we'll start with my Tier 1 collections.

Relic, #'d 2/7

  • My Paul Konerko (38 cards) and Tom Seaver (31 cards) collections benefited the most this past year, that's has a lot to do with Konerko's playing days, his cards are cheaper and Seaver gets added into damn near every set so he constantly has more cards coming out.
  • I was happy to add 4 new ones of Dave Dravecky because according to TCDB, I have 64 of 109 so I've gotten most of his cheaper, easier cards to find. I'm going to have to start dropping more money on that.
  • I've added some Luis Aparcio (4 cards) but not a ton and only 3 of Mike Hart, that came from Sportlots.

I'll have to go back and check because I thought I added more than 1 Mike Hart. It wouldn't surprise me if I forgot to log a couple on the page that I keep those numbers on.

I won't go through each player in my further collections because I have a bunch. I'll just make a few notes. Here's Tier 2.

Relic, #'d 68/249

  • I added the most to my Luis Robert collection, thanks to him being hurt a lot and his cards going down in prices. I added 74 of his. I expect his cards to go back up once baseball starts back up. I need to get a cheap auto before they start going up as well.
  • My second highest would be Eloy Jimenez for pretty much the same reason. I added 33 cards to his collection
  • Yoan Moncada would be 3rd with 23 cards, for the same reasons as above.
  • Everybody else is below 20 cards added.
  • My lowest were 4 cards of Shoeless Joe Jackson and 3 cards of Bill Melton. Shoeless Joe I should be able to get some more because he's been added to some of the newer sets. I have 20 of only 83 of Melton so his will be a little more difficult to pick up.

Next up is my Tier 2 Michigan players.

Autograph, #'d 94/125

  • I've added the most of Jake Cronenworth which isn't surprising since he's in most sets these days. I added 30 cards of his.
  • Duncan Robinson had 24 and DJ Wilson had 21 added which rounds out the top 3.
  • Trey Burke (13 cards), Caris LeVert (12 cards), Nico Collins and Tim Hardaway jr (11 cards) and Aidan Hutchinson, Ignas Brazdeikis, Jordan Nwogu, Moritz Wagner all had 10 cards.

I really like seeing the 10 cards of Aidan as he has been a beast this year. Good luck getting a cheap auto though.

Next up is the tier 3 collections.

Dual Relic, #'d 15/50

  • The most I added to was the Ryan Zimmerman (196 cards) and not far behind was Cal Ripken Jr (188 cards). Next up is 144 cards for Gary Carter and 116 for the Mike Schmidt collection. Those 4 were all over 100 cards added.
  • Steve Carlton had 65 and both Carl Yastrzemski and Johnny Bench had 59 cards added.

So much for being tier 3 that I don't look for as hard. They do come the cheapest because of when they played and all are continually being produced which is why I ended up with so many adds.

Relic, Autograph, #'d 37/70

I also added 546 cards to the White Sox Collection, 402 to the Vintage Collection and 110 to the Michigan collection.

Manu Relic, Autograph, #'d 69/100

The numbers that really seem off but I know aren't are the cards and dollar amount.

In 2021 I received 6,293 cards and spent $1,088.89. That was the year that I started using Sportlots and really started boosting my PC's but look at 2022's stats compared to 2021.

  • 2021 (6,293 cards) ($1,088.89)
  • 2022 (2,714 cards) ($2,130.53)

So I bought/received over 3,500 less cards but spent over $1,000 more. Why? Well because now that I'm setting up at card shows, I've been buying more pricier cards. I've actually gotten better about not doing that because I was hitting dollar boxes and buying a bunch, and then finding those same cards on Sportlots for less than a buck. So I'll still pick up autos or a little more expensive cards but I don't drop a bunch on dollar cards anymore.

All of the scans in this post are the top card I picked up this year of the player that I added the most of from each tier and the Abreu and Minor are the top non PC White Sox and Michigan cards I picked up this year. The Michigan one was tough to pick out as the majority of those kind of pick-ups are PC cards.

A different Sox

I went to the Michigan basketball game on Thursday and watched them lose to Central Michigan. They sucked, no defense and there offense wasn't that great either. I still had a good time being the first men's game I've been too but it wouldn't have been nice to at least get a win with all the driving there and back.

Saturday was our playoff game and we managed to lose that too. The reffing sucked (not the reason we lost) both ways. They blew all kinds of calls, even when going back to replays. Like I said, it went both ways, they just sucked. We continually shot ourselves in the foot and still managed to be in it in the end.

Then I watched the basketball team earlier today and they were a totally different team. It's been a frustrating week being a Michigan fan.

I'm kind of glad today's post isn't Michigan related, at least from here on out. Today we get back to old school players who is a tier 3 PC.

I got both of these from Sluggo under different pretenses. The 206 Mini was in cards I was sorting so I got that one free because it was a cheapy. The box topper on the other hand, Sluggo had it marked at $15 and he always complains about having to carry the oversized stuff to shows. I told him he could give this one to me, he discounted the price like he usually does but I said I wasn't paying for it, I didn't need it that bad. He ended up giving it to me. I do really like it just because it looks like the old Topps Supers in the late 60's and early 70's.

These 2 give me 159 cards of the Hall of Famer.
