This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

1981 Topps–Leon Roberts #368

I’m collecting the 1981 set, slowly but surely. This post is the latest in my quest for the completion.
  • Card Facts – Leon Roberts – Seattle Mariners – Card # 368
  • Purchase Price – $0.05 (part of a lot – 100/$4.99)
  • On the back (toon, bottom left) – His first hit for the Mariners was a Grand-Slammer, 4-9-78.
  • On the back (toon, bottom right) – Once tried out for the Houston Oilers as a punter.
  • Drafted by the Tiger’s in the 10th round in 1972.
  • Debut – September 3, 1974
  • 1974-1975 (Tigers), 1976-1977 (Astros), 1978-1980 (Mariners), 1981-1982 (Rangers), 1982 (Blue Jays), 1983-1984 (Royals)
  • Born in Vicksburg, MI
  • Attended the University of Michigan

Played all 3 outfield positions for all his career.  Leon led his team with a batting average of .301 which was 6th in the league in 1978.  Pitched 1 inning of relief in his final season for the Royals in 1984, giving up 3 earned runs with the 3 outs.
  • Cards I have posted in this set – 10
  • Total price paid – $1.04
  • Average price per card – $0.10
  • Cards left to post – 716
In 1983 he was traded for Cecil Fielder to the Royals.  I don’t know about the rest of you but I didn’t know Fielder was in the Royals organization.
